p.s. Hey. So, there's the visual evidence of the consolidated first section of the West Coast LHotB/ Akashic book tour in which I was involved, and if you want to follow Mark Gluth and James Greer all the way up to Seattle, you can see lots of event and travel pix here. I'm getting started late yet again today, so I'll get a move on lest the day get away from the post. ** JW Veldhoen, Oh, certainly. ** 嘴巴, You are diligent, persistent, and rather polite, and, for that, you score points. ** Wolf, Oh, yeah, B. Lebowski and me go way back. I'm a huge Jeff Bridges fan, but I haven't seen 'Crazy Heart', but I will one day and one way or another. Hm, okay, maybe I'll give the next horse I see a peck on his or her cheek. They have cheeks or cheek-like things or areas, yes? ** Ken Baumann, Hey, Ken! Wednesday's good, yeah. Call me, and we can figure out the time. I don't think I have your number, or it's on a piece of paper that's some god knows where. You still have my LA number? ** Bernard Welt, Oh, sure, happy late birthday to Sondheim, what the heck. ** Mark Gluth, Oh, they're from Erin's Facebook album, but it's all for the best since now people can see your blog slideshow with its integrity intact. ** David Ehrenstein, Precisely and lustrously put re: Duvall. ** Justin, Oh, yeah, I almost bought that very MA doll thing, damn. And it was going for, like, two dollars at the time. I'm so stupid. No, I really am. It's weird. ** Stan_cz, Oh, well, I guess I feel less regret now about missing the Herzog event, although I was going for his talk and q&a like any sane person, so my lessened regret might be a sham. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey, Ben. ** IA, I almost picked up that Place to Bury Strangers album at Amoeba not two days ago. I just saw the HTMLG thing as you interjecting logic, sanity, and historical back up for Tao more than cheerleading. Good job of it too. I like the chapbook idea, naturally, but you knew I would. Michael Dickman, cool, I'll check him out. Do you know/like Mike Young's prose poems? I think they're pretty fantastic. ** Misanthrope, Munging is becoming the new Adam Lambert or something. Glad that cold of yours was a swooper. Kind of imagined. ** Chris, I heard that the Greenwood orchestral piece was good. I'll hunt it. Yeah, you can add a line or two to the SPD if you do it right away, like today ideally or tomorrow at the latest. How to do it? Just send me the additional lines, I guess, or send me the revised text with the sentences added if that's easier? Great about the band, man. My flight's on Saturday. ** Creative Massacre, That Cha Siu Baau stuff would make my mouth water if it didn't have that pork filling. Yeah, Chinese cuisine rules. I especially like Szechuan style, I guess because it's spicy. Szechuan cold sesame noodles are the best. I'm thinking it might be just about the right timing to get to see 'Shutter Island' on the plane. That's my guess or my hope. ** Steevee, No, but I'm incredibly curious to hear 'Belus' of course, and I'll get it one way or another. For some reason, the thought of putting some euro in his pocket doesn't bother me. Maybe I need to question my not minding that more than I do. Hm. In any case, yeah, I'm about as curious to hear that album as I've been to hear any album in years. ** Dan Callahan, That would incredible, obviously, if PTA used Shelley Duvall in a film. I've mentioned the idea to John Waters a number of times, and he likes it too, but he's having a hell of time getting a film made at all. Ha ha, yeah, definitely on the alien/Duvall question. I can't overemphasize how incredibly sweet and cool she was to me when I met her that time. Even after I'd gotten her autograph, whenever our eyes met across the art gallery, she would do these wonderful, kooky Duvall-ish double takes and things to entertain or please me or something. She was just completely divine, really. My friend Christian co-starred with her in 'Portrait of a Lady' and said she was just nothing but adorable and wacky. ** Bill, Yeah, not a bad weekend at all on the politics front. I'm feeling quite the smidgen of hope, but we'll see. I got a Fugue State Press package not long before I left Paris and lost a fair amount of work time as a result, albeit with no regret at all. ** Alan, What I exactly mean by anarchism is a keen interest of mine as well, ha ha. Not that it isn't solid. It is, but it's somehow the opposite of static. Perhaps we can have a really good, long talk about that vis a vis your politics/ philosophy somehow sometime. As you can imagine, that's something I've long wanted to do. Maybe if you manage to get to France, we can, or in August or September if I'm in NYC for a while around then as it seems I probably will be. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, I didn't get my Chelsea Lately intro last night. Long story. But I think there are repeats, yes? I hope so. Edie has a really nice monotone voice. I think that in combination with her face is probably a talent. I like Lisa Kudrow a lot. That goes into my 'Romy & Michele' liking for sure. I will say hi to Jesse. I think he's here until Friday or something. Yeah, 'Life' is either like 'Planet Earth' or made by the same people or something. Oprah narrates it, but I got over that surprisingly quickly. I may have to read 'Depraved'. It's nagging at me now. Plus, the cannibal thing is .. you know. My Monday mostly involved a lot of trying to plan out my remaining time and see who I can manage to see and who I need to see aka my tax guy and family and stuff. Seems like I spent a fair amount of time trading phone cells and texts trying to sort out scheduling and stuff. Almost went to see 'Alice' 3D, but it got put off until today, I think. There was perfect weather. I remember that. I walked around in that. I ate in that too, specifically at this outdoor cafe-ish restaurant Alcove down the street. I think I had a 'caprese omelette', which wasn't as good as I thought it sounded. It was basically a tomato omelette. Meh. And I didn't realize that it came with hash browns and toast, so I ordered a huge side of fries and a bagel, and I ended up having a starch meal and getting too full but not good full. While I was making phone calls and waiting for them, I pulled a bunch of my old vinyl records out and indulged. Most of them had skips. Uh, that might be it. I was planning to do more yesterday, but then I didn't. It's weird. Hm. Tuesday? ** David, Duvall as our Zazu Pitts, ha ha, nice. I liked 'Portrait of a Lady' pretty well. As I recall, my only beef was with Malkovich. I felt like he telegraphed his entire character too quickly, and I felt his performance was very schticky. He can be great, and he can be really bad too, in my opinion. I pretty much love the 'Dangerous Liasons' film, but he almost ruined it for me with his cartoony, mugging villain stuff. ** Math, Birds on Franklin, wow. I don't think I've ever eaten there despite driving by it a billion times. You ever eat at Victor's, that deli kind of behind it that's owned and run by John Gotti's brother? I will absolutely check out NYC's mac 'n cheese scene. No problem there. I ate pretty good mac 'n cheese at Home the other day. You know that place? On Hillhurst between Sunset and Franklin? Yesterday I ate what I told Itmpw I did, and, uh, a homemade grilled seitan wrap with unsalted blue corn chips.. I think tonight I'm diving headlong back into Mexican. Harvest Moon, ha ha, um, I think I gave up on that game or one of the versions of it really fast. After my scary addiction to 'Animal Crossing', I'm being careful. Did you see that the new Mario Galaxy comes out in May? And Mario has Yoshi with him in the game. The preview looks ... whoa. ** Oscar B, You guys are long gone to Sicily now unless there was a plane strike or something. Will you see this? Can you see this? ** Alec Niedenthal, It is nice here. Assuming you don't mind driving, you might really like it here in the summer. The heat's mostly dry and doable, and there is something just inherently relaxing here unless I'm crazy. But that FSG internship sounds pretty sweet, if comes through. Oh, I love 'The Erasers'. You're right that it is different or different-ish -- his first volley. I do prefer the work when it gets more dense: 'Project for a Revolution ...', '... Golden Triangle', and that phase. 'The Erasers' is an interesting companion to the later novel 'Djinn' which he wrote as a novel/primer about his work, specifically -- although not exclusively -- for students re: his work and the Nouveau Roman in general. That paper you wrote sounds fascinating, both the topic and, of course, it, no doubt. Will it end up somewhere public? If you quit smoking and managed to write a story at the same time, I'm very impressed. Whenever I end up quitting, I'll be no good for six months minimum probably. Wish you were here to hang out too, man. ** Blendin, Mm, no, I think the newsstand hanging out event has taken the LA cake. So far, mind you. I'm angling to see you and do Barney's. Lots of juggling going on as per usual in my LA trips. Nice about the new lady, duh. I'm going to try my utmost to call you and figure out something today. ** Bollo, Those to-be printed prints look pretty cool. I've only glanced, but I will peer. Everyone, new to-be-printed prints by Bollo aka Jonathan Mayhew on his blog, and don't let the 'to-be' intimidate you. No reason to hesitate, I assure you. ** Empty Frame, Oh, that music blog does look really good and simple and complex. I know that guy's name from The Wire, I think. Thanks! Everyone, here's Empty Frame: 'I want to give a heads up to a music blog, might be of interest to those of you guys interested in the weirder aspects of dance/electronica etc ... it's called veryverymuch.com, and it has its moments. Run by an ex-Brighton guy who now writes for music mags like The Wire etc, some of you might like it.' ** Put The Lotion In The Basket, Thanks a veritable zillion for yesterday, my friend. All right, I'll have my lawyer update my will post haste. I was hoping my time machine would go to a worthy cause, so thank you. Well, I might be dead when you get the t.m., but you can probably find me in 1989 since I was living in NYC then and seeing every Sonic Youth show there was. I might be a little more coked up than you're used to me being, but I promise I'll share. ** Trees, Hey, man. That was a nice yesterday. If my humble graphic novel juiced it up a little, I'm honored, although I'll bet it's Keith Mayerson who gets the credit for the second (?) round. Oh, nice about the Bruce Boone reading. I read the Afterword on my plane ride back to LA from SF. It's a beauty, and Halpern's intro was pretty nice too. How's your writing, eh? Oh, sure, you mean an email address? Use the dcooperweb @gmail.com one. Thanks! ** I think that's the whole deal. Sorry for being speedy and vague-ish. So, join our book tour today for as long as you can handle it, ask any questions that cross your pretty minds if any questions do, and I'll see you tomorrow, naturally.
