Geez, what a douche. Also, Daredevil was really bad.

Summer Break: Day 72

Pazely will most certainly testify that this was NOT a fun thing today.
We are about 3 weeks behind in getting her thank-you notes written & sent from her birthday party--which happened over a month ago!
She wrote one card by hand, & after I realized how long & tedious that was gonna be, we decided
to make postcards. She typed them out on the computer.
And then I decorated each with a purple circle punch & ink squiggled scallops.
Pazely stuck on a sticker---& done!
While Pazely worked on thank-you notes, Zoey was happily sketching out her own correspondence & putting together a package of handmade paper items for one of her cousins.

And lookie what I worked on this afternoon:

I'm so excited about the new "flavors" arriving in the shop next week!
(40+ different badges in stock too!)

O'Malley Assigns Blame for Baltimore Murder

After much media hoopla and finger-pointing over the murder of 23 year old Johns Hopkins researcher Stephen Pitcairn, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley has decided to jump on the blame bandwagon and has assigned the blame to Judge John Howard.

Judge John Howard twice released murderer John Wagner who was sent back to the streets to release his violent wrath upon society.

After learning that Judge John Howard was appointed by former Governor and current opponent Bob Ehrlich, it is easy to see why O'Malley is jumping on this. Though absolutely ludicrous, he will surely assign the blame of Stephen Pitcairn's murder to Bob Ehrlich. If Ehrlich hadn't appointed John Howard to his seat, then he wouldn't have released John Howard back on the streets and John Wagner would still be alive. Watch - it will happen.

In fact, O'Malley went on to say, "Whenever I appoint judges the question I always ask each and every one of them is will you send people to jail when they have a history and they are found guilty in front of you of shooting, robbing, committing crimes of violence against others". I'm sure he really says that. But the timing of the rhetoric is good, right?

The ridiculousness of this argument is obviated by the fact that judges and prosecutors in Baltimore City routinely release criminals back onto the streets. Thousands of criminals were released back onto the streets while O'Malley was mayor of the city that bleeds.

John Wagner is no anomaly. In fact, he's the status quo of the Baltimore judicial system. Two weeks ago Martin O'Malley would have praised John Wagner for giving these victims of society a second chance. Now the table has turned and he surely will use it as an opportunity to reassign blame.

Trust me. It will happen.

Summer Giveaway #13: Dangerous Neighbors by Beth Kephart (US only)

How can you not love a book by Beth Kephart? Her prose is like liquid poetry, and all the befuddled emotions in her books--the pain, the angst, the uncertainty--are clear in their haziness. Her upcoming book, Dangerous Neighbors, is historical fiction: different than her other books but with no less the potential to be relevant and poignant.

Summary:

Could any two sisters be more tightly bound together than the twins, Katherine and Anna? Yet love and fate intervene to tear them apart. Katherine's guilt and sense of betrayal leaves her longing for death, until a surprise encounter and another near catastrophe rescue her from a tragic end. Set against the magical kaleidoscope of the Philadelphia Centennial fair of 1876, National Book Award nominee Beth Kephart's book conjures the sweep and scope of a moment in history in which the glowing future of a nation is on display to the disillusioned gaze of a girl who has determined that she no longer has a future. The tale is a pulse by pulse portrait of a young heroine's crisis of faith and salvation in the face of unbearable loss. [summary from Goodreads]

I got to meet Beth (for the third, fourth, somethingth time) at BEA, and she was able to sign an ARC of Dangerous Neighbors that I'd love to give away to interested readers. To enter, please fill out the form below, making sure to answer the question relevantly. This giveaway is open to US only, and ends Friday, August 20, 2010. Good luck!

Pain slave animal held in your chains and ready to be used. Since you hold the keys to the chains, there is no escape and no way to stop you or others from using and abusing this slave until you are completely satisfied. This slave animal will learn to suffer while accepting your use and bring you pleasure through its misery. I know what I am, where I belong and want to get my life headed in the right direction.

I'm into a bunch of stuff. I had a gf but after we were together for a while during sex she would lick my ass and it felt good. One day I asked her if she could finger my asshole. After that I was addicted to it. I would fuck her and then she would use a stapon on me. I didn't think I was gay but after sometime I started watching gay porn. At first it felt weird and awkward watching it but now I love it.
Like I said earlier I'm into a bunch of stuff. However I have never had sex with another man but I am more than willing to find to it. My last gf was into a bunch of kinky stuff; bondage, spanking, asslicking, beastiality, slave, face fuck and other stuff. Some of those fetishes rubbed off on me.

I own this boi and am offering him to an outstanding master to be placed under his care as a no way out slave. Boi is ready and has exeperince in total darkness bondage and extreme bondage for long periods of time. He should be kept in a cage and fed out of a dog's dish when he is not serving his master. He is excellent at cum control and has been trained not to cum unless master wants it. He can go months without being allowed to cum, yet be edged over and over again. His sexual fustration can be his master's source of pleasure. In return, I expect you to provide for his medical care (should the need arise), food, lodging and what little clothes he might need. He will not contact nor be allowed any communication to anyone else other than his master for the duration of his contract. He will not leave your permises for any purpose other than his medical care if needed. He is not to be allowed to socialize with any person; only to serve his master. He will not be allowed to work or earn any money, and if master should dismiss him, owner willl return him prepaid to Washington DC. Boi is illness free and so should master be as well.

p.s. Hey. By the luck of the draw, you get slaves for the weekend. I guess that sentence and the post it notes are self-explanatory, and there's nothing else to report, so ... ** Dogboy, Greetings. No, I never share my stuff before it's finished. The way I work, my stuff is always wrong until the last minute, and I think I'm too fragile about my stuff to let people into it too early. That said, I used to show my stuff in early stages before I decided that I knew exactly what to do and how to do it, and back then I found the readers' thoughts, advice, etc. usually helpful. On the creative writing courses, I think it really depends. I mean there are those where the teacher wants to neuter and regulate the originality out of young writers' voices for sure, but there are good ones too where the goal is to recognize the writers' inherent gifts and help them figure out how to use those gifts to the max. I never took a fiction writing workshop, but I was in a bunch of poetry workshops, and they helped me a lot. Putting yourself in situations where you'll get support for your writing is pretty important. I mean, the support (and criticism) I got early on from my poetry teachers and from other young writers in those classes made a really huge difference to me. Huge. I might owe a fair amount of my confidence to those experiences. Basically, I think that's the most important thing. I mean, you can learn the conventional tricks of writing fiction just from reading fiction, if necessary. In my experience when starting out, the significance of airing out your writing and getting believable respect from others for what you're doing was a total life changer, though. ** Bernard Welt, Oops, on the name misspelling. Oh, well, why not? It kind of boggles me that the Corcoran still isn't aware of what having had Svenonius as a student means. He must be among the most well known, noted, respected, etc. of the school's fairly recent ex-students, no? ** Changeling, Honey ... okay, that's easy enough to find and apply. Won't eat it, though. I weirdly don't like the taste of honey at all. I think I'm the only person I've ever known who doesn't like honey. ** Tender prey, Hi, Marc! Man, your show looks fucking incredible. For whatever reason, 'L'invitation' has especially blown my mind in my initial look. But the work is just incredible in general. Wow. Everyone, d.l. tender prey is also the amazing visual artist Marc Hulson, and a new exhibition of his work recently opened in London at the gallery Five Years, and you can have a pretty solid look at the show and the opening event on his blog, and I really, really think you should do just that. Or, of course, get yourself directly to the gallery itself if you're in range. The info is here. Congrats, Marc. It's painful not being able to see the work for real. I hope the show goes really well, and that the move to Brighton is sweat-free, and on any thoughts you give to the blog show, awesome, and thank you so much! ** Pilgarlic, Just to show you what a hard-nosed Francophile I am, I bet that 'Oooooo!' had about three levels of irony going on in it. See, I told you. Where'd you see that show? I'd like to. For the Tim Hardin footage, if nothing else. ** JoeM, Hey. I think McCartney's problem is that he started playing it really safe early on in his post-Beatles period. I mean, he did write 'Helter Skelter', after all. And 'She's Leaving Home'. And he used to both address banality and be banal in sophisticated ways a la 'Hello Goodbye' and etc., but then he just seemed to decide to pretty much milk sincerity and playfulness sans much complication and without close attention to the details forever after. But his Beatles stuff is mostly brilliant, I agree. So very pleased to hear about the growing Abigail book, of course. ** Paradigm, Hey, man! Really great to see you! How are you doing? What are you working on? Etc.? ** Statictick, Hey. Digital, okay. Hm, sounds like something that could end up online and even watchable for free. Thanks, bud. Good weekend. ** Waiting for John, No, your mum is a better writer, and she doesn't seem like the slumming type. ** Jeff, Importance is in the eye of the hater, I think. No, I think the threatening email guy wants me to be all up in arms, and I'm not. Been there. Black magic, though, hm. Isn't the thing that you can't be cursed if you don't believe in curses? I read that somewhere. Yeah, I'm real glad Shane mentioned Bladh here too. I hadn't known his stuff either, I don't know why. You've sold me on the IRM album. I'm getting it. I've been wanting to get something, and that'll be the something. Thanks a lot, Jeff, for all of it. ** JW Veldhoen, God knows you're soft. God being the collective unconscious? In the very good way, mind you. SY = Sonic Youth? Oh, you've transducted, excellent! Everyone, the unimpeachably mighty JW Veldhoen has zonked the great storehouse Transductions via a little thing he calls 'Persepectives, or What is Hardcore', and, duh, go there this instant. ** David Ehrenstein, The Steward bio sounds, well, most doable. I'm peeled. ** Shane Le Vein, Hi, Shane. Wow, that's very trippy and incredibly cool that Bladh likes my work. That's, wow, thanks a lot for telling me that. I would love it a ton if you wanted to do a post on him for the blog, Yes, please. It would be much more interesting for me to learn through you than through my well known self and blog methodology. And, yeah, wow again, if he wants to send me something, I'd be completely thrilled. The address is: (me) c/o. Centre International des Recollets, 150 rue du Faubourg St. Martin, 75010 Paris, France. So, yeah, thank you very much, Shane, on both fronts and, well, on every front really. ** Steevee, This rash of spider biting is getting kind of weird as Bernard noted. Maybe it's a normal summer thing that gets forgotten in all the deserved hype around the summerlong mosquito invasions. Haven't heard that new El-P. I like him and his stuff though, so I'll hunt some samples down on my way to probably downloading it. Thanks, Steve. I hope your bite recedes before Monday. ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Ah, what a beautiful Svenonius rhapsody. It had it all. Thank you! You've got a spider bite too?! On your temple?! I think you win or lose the contest. I'm doing alright this morning, it seems, itchy hand notwithstanding, although your day ahead sounds more fun than mine promises to be, which is kind of gloomy for me to say since this day could literally be the best day of my life. How would I know? ** Abigail Winthrop (Mrs), You have surprised and come awfully close to tenderizing me, madam. ** Misanthrope, Mine isn't staph. I've had staph. Mine is a tiny, evil hole with a small flushed flesh skirt around it. Man, you and your mom seem to do the world's lion sharing of waiting for things to happen. It's fucked up. I'll assume that threatening dude has woken up from whatever bender he was on when he wrote to me and has gone oops and has moved on. Either that or I'll assume some black magic related curse is now swirling around me. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, No, pot and hash make me paranoid, so I'll just sit and watch everyone else's eyes redden and their voices say surprising things. Hm, I wonder if 'The Loved Ones' is a remake of 'The Loved One'. Doesn't look like it. But it's an Australian horror movie, so it's got to be good. If this tiny little hole in my hand makes me have to go see a doctor, I'm going to be really pissed off. Oh, that meal your friend made is gross, urp-worthy. That said, once I boiled myself some spaghetti, poured catsup on it, microwaved some frozen mozzarella sticks, threw them on top and ate every bite feeling very satisfied. Glad you wrote. Very glad. And that you almost a drew a vision too. My day: First, someone called my cellphone at 4:30 in the morning and woke me up, but I didn't answer it. That was weird and kind of rude of whoever. All I know is that whoever's phone is based in Jamestown, New York. Eventually, I woke up, did the blog, ate some cheese in a tortilla, did some novel work that went slightly better. Gisele texted me that she'll be in Paris for the weekend, so I guess we'll hang out. Two guys came into my room and fixed something in my shower, I don't know what or why they did that. Yet another friend of mine had a baby and sent me an email announcement and a pic of the kid. Boy, very red, very asleep. Bought food, walked a bit, blah blah. Yury got home from work about 7 pm, changed his clothes, and we met up with Oscar then went to see the Gilbert Peyre theater piece 'CUPIDON, PROPRIÉTAIRE DE L'IMMEUBLE SITUÉ SUR L'ENFER ET LE PARADIS' -- he calls his works sculpture operas -- at Centquatre. It was really good, I liked it a lot. It was like watching a very large, very elaborate, kind of Victorian, slightly perverse wind-up toy do its magical unwinding thing. Really beautiful. Hard to describe. I have a post about Peyre coming soon, so you'll see what his stuff is like. After that, not much else happened really 'cos it was vaguely late when we got home. I must have checked my email and looked at Facebook for a minute or two. Then I put ointment on my bite thing, bandaged it, took aspirin and Melatonin and crashed. The weekend is now totally ours to do whatever we want with, man. Do your best in the scalding heat, and I'll work my way through the -- sorry -- perfect 78 degree weather we're graced with over here these strange days. ** Bill, You made it! Welcome to there. I'm pretty sure it's not impetigo after all. A bite, I think. Or the mark left by a poison dart maybe. I liked the Peyre a lot. I loved that knives falling/ board sliding thing. A bunch of stuff. ** Chris, Nice to hear your echoey hello yesterday. Yeah, sounds like everything's getting all official and cemented. Now we just have to make piece, gulp. I actually saw that Flaming Lips/ Letterman clip kind of by accident yesterday. Yeah, it's wonderful. Talk to you soon! ** Will Decker, Hi. I'm really glad you like the Koertge poem. Yeah, it's splendid. He's a great poet, and he was a very influential teacher for me. Like I said, I'm almost sure I don't have impetigo. I used it get practically every year when I was kid. This is a bite or something. I've read excerpts from Ned Rorem's journals, and I was spoken to at length by him at parties back in the '80s, but I don't think I've read a full book of his journals. I've been meaning to. I imagine they're quite interesting, juicy, etc. Best to you too. ** Bollo, I'm on Facebook. What's the gallery's name again? First I'll 'Like' it, and then I'll find the show's evidence in their 'gallery'. If your friend turns up her nose at the London Dungeon option, tell her my nose was turned upward too until I took the tour. Do have a fine weekend, J. ** Hedi, Hey, Hedi! I can not fucking wait to read the Duvert. Thank you so much for the early look 'cos I've been feeling very impatient for it. Cool that Gary's book is in its late, mechanical phase and very good news about the new Animal Shelter. So, not an entirely uneventful summer, it seems. Mine was mega-eventful for a while, and now it's just sort of there, and since the weather here has been absolutely fall-like, I guess summer's already over technically. Anyway, hi, Hedi! ** Please do what you'll do with the slaves until I see you next. My weekend: try to work, hope my hand stops hurting, see friends, eat a muffin, I don't know. Later.
