its not me, its you.

I just watched the cutest movie ever! PENELOPE! It was a good movie. Not the most amazing but I did like it a lot. I love movies that have a whimsical air and the colors are amazing in the movie. I wish I could find more pictures of Penelope's clothing because the way they dressed her was so unique and cute. Christina Ricci is so pretty in this movie, even with the pig nose. I actually liked her with her pig nose better. James Mcavoy is of course a cutie in this movie. You can never hate him in any movie.

The other day I watched HSM 3 with my sisters. I liked it. It was not too much, although I could definitely feel if there was a song coming on but I think they did it very well. It was a nice ending to the trilogy (hopefully it is the END!). It also makes me think of the end of my senior year, which is surreal. I mean I can barely handle trying to find a date for senior ball, how can I handle the end of senior year? Barely, cannot. :(. I liked how they dressed Vanessa Ann Hudges very simply. Here are my favorite songs from the movie:

inspired

In Photo, we are doing a new project that is going to be a collage of picture and things that inspire us, drive us, we love, etc. It is going to be a mixed media of photos, magazine cut-outs, etc. She wanted us to get inspired by Dan Eldon's work. She showed us a video of him and we had to look up facts about him.

His work is amazing. His story is amazing. He is amazing. At 23, you can change the world. He taught us that. He was a photographer and humanist who came from Kenya and traveled all over Africa taking pictures of famines and wars, only at 23! He gave aid to many people and opened the world to the poverty and crisis in Somalia and other places in Africa. He died being attacked by an angry mob during a U.N. bombing in Mogadishu.

He represents the kind of person I want to be when I grow up (and well I am kind of almost in that grown up period). I really do want to be a journalist because the reasons he was a photographer. Not just for the love of writing, but for the love of writing about people and observing people and talking about IMPORTANT issues that need to be discussed and open the world's curiosity a little wider. Man I wish I knew about him earlier or I would have totally written about him for my CMC app essay (dammmnnn, i hate realizing how i could have written better essays for my apps because i learn things now about life!!!). I was inspired by his photograhs and his journals.

At 14, he started keeping journals. They were not the typical writing journals. He wrote, kept pictures, drew and cut out amazing collages. They are what is left of him and his legacy. I wish I had kept journals at a young age, but I am not the type to keep a journal because it hurts my hand because I write too much. So I am much more of a satisfactory blogger but I do not think I could ever write as in depth things he did at 14 when I was 14. All I would have written about is complaining about family, school and boys. Perfectly ridiculous. His aspirations and creativity INSPIRE me to keep an inspiration journal now. I think I will start one. But I just hate cutting up my magazines. But I really think it would help me develop my creativity in writing and maybe drawing. And I always have a dream of some day being in Elle or Vogue as a designer/stylist so I think that would help me get some ideas. Hahah. But I also want to write down the ideas and the opinions I have now because I am at the stage of my growth where I have opinions that are actually about important issues.

If he could show the world his opinions, so can I.

So I watched the Oscars and I liked it this year. I definetly think Hugh Jackman is amazing and his singing was very wonderous. I like the musical number it was definetly cute. And Anne Hathaway NEEDS to do a musical sometime soon because her voice is AMAZIIING. I remember she sang in Ella Enchanted. I was so proud she was a nominee for Best Actress. I of course was looking at all the dresses. Everyone seemed to dress so safe this year. I wanted to talk about why Slumdog Millionaire deserved all those Oscars (8!!!). I watched it before the Oscars with my family. And we liked it a lot. I think it is more than just a love story. It really brings attention to the poverty in India and how those kids survived despite all their hardships, even though they had to survive through more criminal means. It was really compelling. And I do loooooove the cinetamography. It was freaking amazing. I could not believe the picture of the slums. It was horrifying and unbelievable.

Honestly I thought the children actors were the best actors in the movie. But I really did like Dev Patel in the movie. He was a great actor. I hope he continues to grow and get more good parts. I think the journey of the movie really captures the innocence of youth and the corruption of that innocence. I liked it a lot. The love story I was not as happy with but it was really beautiful. Frieda Pinto is freaking beautiful. Indians are really beautiful. People do not know that but some of them have the most beautiful complexions and eyes.

Lusty, Lusty, Lusty ...

So, Kay over at “Perhaps We Learned Something” has invented a little meme that is going to last exactly seven weeks. Being the joiner I am, I’ve decided to play along.
Photobucket

Basically the idea is that she’s going to post one of the Seven Deadly Sins each week, and then we are supposed to write about it. Or do a photo blog about it. Or a vlog. Or whatever. I guess a vlog would be okay, right Kay? You didn’t mention vlogs, but that might be fun.

Anyhoodle, this is week one of the Seven Deadly Sins Meme. And for week one is the sin is …

LUST!

Yeah, baby!

My first thought when I saw that this week’s word was “STRIPPER STORIES!!!” But, then I saw that she asked up keep it PG-13. So, stripper stories are out.

So, instead I will tell a couple of stories from back in the day. The first one takes place in San Francisco, CA.

It was the first time I had ever been there. My brother in law was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Sacrament and my mother and I went out there to visit. On our visit we made a day trip to San Francisco. Needless to say, it was clear right from the beginning that we weren’t in Arkansas any more.

Anyway, it was our intention to make our way to the Fisherman’s Warf, but we got lost. I’m sure anyone from there, or near there, probably thinks that there is no way to get lost looking for something that EVERYBODY goes to. But, we did.

I’ve never been concerned with getting lost. I just figure it’s part of the sight-seeing trip. So I rather enjoyed driving through different areas of the city. Then we made a turn down some street and found ourselves in a rather interesting neighborhood. To our right was the Lusty Lady Theater …
Photobucket

Needless to say I was the only one in the Jeep Cherokee who thought stopping and going inside would be a good idea. So, we drove on past. But, I did make a note of the place. Just in case I ever made it back.

--

Next I will tell the story about the very first thing that popped into my head when I saw that this week’s word was “Lust.” I have no idea why I thought of this.

When I was a freshman at the University of Arkansas, the town of Fayetteville and the school were both still pretty funky. It would be about five years still before the liberal corporate elitists would take control of the town from the hippies and yuppify the place, thus ruining it.

Also, the 1st Amendment was still intact, and people could set themselves up on the plaza in front of the student union and do some sort of one man protest. Sometimes they would try to get people to save the whales, sometimes it was the rainforests and sometimes they were preaching the gospel. Now of course, you have pay for permit and then go to the designated “fee speech zone.” Don’t get me started.

Anyway, very late in the spring semester, a middle aged man showed up one Monday, carrying a microphone and amp set. He then began to preach the word of God to everyone as we wandered by on our way to and from class or whatever important things we were doing. As the week went on the crowds began to grow and people began to go down there to debate him. It got to be quite the entertaining show. The debates were, for the most part, very respectful and at times very deep and philosophical.

With one exception. Anytime a coed wearing a short dress or shorts would walk past, or come up to him, the man would stop whatever he was talking about, point at her, and yell “LUSTY, LUSTY, LUSTY!” Needless to say, the crowd started joining in with him each time. This made the whole thing even more entertaining.

But, best of all was the fact that by the end of the week, many girls had decided that they too wanted to be called “lusty” by this guy. So, the plaza became a parade of young, fit coeds strutting around in mini-skirts and short-shorts.
Photobucket

It was a beautiful sight. Girls wearing skimpy outfits walking around, and large crowds of both men and women, led by Mr. Preacherman, shouting “LUSTY, LUSTY, LUSTY” at them.

In fact, it was so much fun that on Friday my buddies and I filled some big 64 ounce plastic cups from the 7-11 (you know the kind with the tight-fitting lid and plastic straw) with beer or a mixture of Bacardi 151 and Gatorade and headed down to watch the show. For most of the afternoon we sat there, drinking alcohol and eating pizza from Jim’s Razorback Pizza in the Union and watched the lusty little ladies strut their stuff.

Next to that party at the Sig Ep house, where those four girls got up on the tables and danced naked, the preacher man was probably the most entertaining thing that happened that semester.

Gisele Bundchen Weds Cyborg - Shows Off Ass-ets

Brazilian Supermodel Gisele Bundchen has apparently gone and married "The Cyborg From The Future Sent Here To KILL US ALL!!!" aka Tom Brady, quarterback for the NFL's New England Cheaters... er... Patriots. My point is the man is a robot. Not really a man at all... an empty vessel, a husk, a shell if you will, filled only with an enormous ego and various spare motorcycle parts and rotting orange peels. I say this not only because he has gone and wed arguably the most beautiful woman alive - thus putting a severe dent in my very rich fantasy life, but also because he plays the the world's greatest sport, football of course, with all of the passion of an overcooked zucchini muffin. Ah, but Gisele is here to make everything better by putting her AWESOME toolbox of assets out there on full and glorious display. Starting with those bare buns. It sure must've been drafty in those shorts - but she was willing to make the sacrifice to ensure our happiness. The least we can do is look right? Right? Well, I'm sure gonna at least - enjoy the pics here at Celeb Girlz For Charity.

You Know You Are Getting Old When ...

Okay. I'm now reduced to this; blatant stealing.

My friend Nicki posed the question on her blog - "You know you are getting old when ..." She commented on the new refrigerator that was installed in her apartment. It didn't have an ice maker. http://nickilovesdrama.blogspot.com/

I thought about that question. I thought about that refrigerator. (No, I am not seriously in need of a life ... at least not seriously. Not TOO seriously.) In case you don't know this fact about me, I'll tell you. At the moment I am deeply engrossed in writing a play. In short, there are people who think this play is completed. I have no idea why they think that. Well, maybe I might have a suspicion. In any case, I'm working away at this thing, and take a few minutes to breeze thru the blogs I enjoy. And there is Nicki's question - a distraction. So here's my secret. when I'm under self-induced pressure, I am drawn to distraction. The more pressure, the more I cling to distraction. It's like moss growing on the north side of a tree. (Does moss really grow on the north side of a tree? How does it know which way is north? I learned this bit of trivia from a John Wayne movie, so it must be true. John Wayne has never lied to me. Actually, I think it was William Holden who said it, but he was standing beside John Wayne at the time, and if it wasn't true, John Wayne would have corrected William Holden. I don't recall anybody ever correcting John Wayne.)

Where was I?

Oh. Yes.

Anyway, I was drawn to Nicki's question. I can easily remember a time before refrigerators HAD ice makers. Does that mean I know I'm getting older? (Don't tell anybody. When I was really young - I mean minus two or something like that - I can remember a friend of my parents who had a refrigerator that had no electricity. It was a big wooden box with ice in the bottom drawer. But that was in Chicago in the summer. In the winter they didn't even need the wooden box. They just put their milk and hot dogs out on the window sill, and whatever was out there stayed cold just fine. But that was Chicago - very progressive.)

In the meantime, I thought the question was a good one, and - being a writer, I'd love your response. How do you know when you are getting older? (And I'll make it easy on you - you don't have to talk about refrigerators, or even Chicago, if you don't want to. Personally, I think Chicago is a pretty interesting place, and I think there's plenty to write about, but not much of it makes me feel older. S0 maybe you shouldn't write about Chicago.)

On the other hand, I'm not at all suggesting that you CAN'T write about Chicago if you want to. I mean, if Chicago makes you feel old, I'd love to hear about it.

So. Ya got it? "You know you are getting old when ...

(And to make it even easier, the kind blogger people have provided a comment box for you. I'm not kidding. It's about three inches down from where you are reading at this very minute. If you don't believe me, go ahead and scroll down and see, and then come back. That's okay. I'll wait.

Do be do be dooooo ...

See? It's there - waiting for you. Ya ready? "You know you are getting old when ...'

Fun.

JB

And how was your day?
