Who's A Legend?

So I'm watching this special on the Travel Channel about private jets and they're starting the show off talking about former MLB player Todd Zeile and his Citation something-something luxury jet. Now, I don't care if a baseball player or anyone else has a private jet, but I do have a small bone to pick with the Travel Channel concerning how they describe Zeile.

The call him a "Baseball Legend" and "Mets HERO!"

Seriously people, now we're calling journeyman third basemen/first basemen/utility outfielders who played for ELEVEN different teams in 16 years a "legend" and a "hero?"

A guy with a lifetime batting average of .265 and 253 homeruns is now a legend?

I know we tend to embellish these things and pump our sports figures up in the country, but that's just silly.

Now *this* my friends is a real “Legend!”

Kicked out of Ohio University for “unruly behavior.”

Was a radioman/gunner on Avenger aircraft during WWII, including during the battle of Okinawa.

10 Academy Awards nominations.

Part owner and founder of the Newman-Haas-Lanigan racing team.

Was part of the driving team that won the 24 Hours at Daytona in 1995 at the age of SEVENTY!

As if he hadn’t proven that he was cool enough for an old guy, in 2004 he drove in the Baja 1000.

Then, in case you didn’t get the message and to celebrate turning 80, he competed again in the 24 Hours at Daytona again in 2005.

And on top of all that he founded Newman’s Own Foods which to date has raised over $250 Million Dollars for Children’s Charities.

Yeah, I know that some of you are wanting to jump in there and bitch and whine bring up his “Liberal” activism. Because we all know that celebrities should NEVER be allowed to express their opinion. *rolls eyes*
