p.s. Hey. Feel your Easter obligations and stresses melt away in light of Put The Lotion In The Basket's secular serenade of a guest-post. No, don't thank me, thank the d.l. in charge with your commentary and greetings this weekend. Let me be the first to thank PTLITB for this holiday-like anti-holiday. Yeah, I hope everyone out there survives Easter and even enjoys something or other about it if possible. Me, I'm still not feeling all that great, to be honest, so my weekend plans are to try to find something like perfect health. We'll see. ** 惠蘋惠蘋 and 家瑩, Seriously, I can guarantee that you're not going to get a single bite or even a nibble from anyone around here. You seem like nice enough spam, but please don't graffiti my place anymore. ** Kosten Koper, Hey. I think there's definitely a market for the R-G book in the US, just not a big, money-making one. The independent presses that I'm sure would love to publish it likely can't afford to pay to have it translated, but if Dorna manages to translate the novel, I would imagine that finding a US publisher won't be a problem. Wow, thanks for translating that later section from the book! Fascinating. Yeah, thank you a lot, man. ** David, Mm, under the cushions of your couch is too obvious. Magically magnetized to the ceiling makes no sense. Between the pages of a magazine? In the cookie jar? ** Tomkendall, Thanks, Tom. Oh, I really, really love your piece on Blake Butler's 'Scorch Atlas' over on Transductions. ** Chris (British), Oh, I think it matters quite a lot, as much or more even when translating fiction. With fiction, or rather with really good fiction, you have both the meaning re: the content and the meaning of the writing's style, language, and so on to deal with simultaneously. I'm not much of a DeLillo fan. I like some of the early ones like 'White Noise' and 'The Names' okay, but that's it. Your Easter treat sounded good to me even with the hard bottom, if that soothes you at all. ** David Ehrenstein, I wish I could publish the R-G with LHotB. Tragically, it doesn't fit into my imprint's guidelines, but you can bet that if the translated novel needs my help, I'll be its missionary. Oh, David, I think you'll appreciate this. So, long story short, I was on Facebook last night and got an IM from Christophe Honore. We chatted. He wants me to play a very small part in his new film, or so he says. I told him I can't act, but he says that doesn't matter. Anyway, duh, I said, I'd be honored to do it! We're meeting up at 5 pm today to talk more about it. How crazy is that? ** Thomas Moronic, Hey, T. Thanks for propping the R-G post on Transductions. Very kind. Man, I'm so very sorry to hear you're having a shitty time. Family stuff, I'm guessing? To judge by your blog of late, your writing certainly wouldn't seem to be giving you a shitty time, and au contraire. I hope the two free weeks make a big difference. What are your escape plans? Love to you, man. ** Sypha, A Laffoley church is definitely an inspired idea, especially if he were given pretty much carte blanche with the building's internal structure and everything. Happy Easter to you, whatever that entails. ** Tosh, There apparently has been no interest in the US re: publishing the novel to date. That's what Catherine R-G told me, although I don't know which publishers were actually tried. Like I said, I think if the novel is already translated, there'll be independent presses that will jump at the book, don't you think? ** Put The Lotion In The Basket, Heavily warm thanks to you for filling in the blog's blank so lustrously this weekend, Monsieur Nick. Now you at least double own me. I envy your Easter plans. They make me want to do something. Hm. Well, I'll read your and Ben's piece in Yuck 'n Yum, that's for damned sure. And I'm crazy about your plans to get surf and skate shops to host events. That's pretty inspired and like a really logical idea just waiting to happen. It's an anti-retro idea, if anything. The future's in the groundwork, you know? Next time I run into Thurston, I'll see what I can do, ha ha. In the meantime, dude, survive that date, okay? It's kind of important. ** Christopher/Mark, Hi, Mark. I think you're right. Quite often when I read really interesting new fiction and delve into the writer, it turns out that R-G is a prominent influence. You doing anything Eastery? ** Math, If only it were as easy to change faces as it was in the old, original 'Mission: Impossible' TV series. I was really disappointed as a kid when I realized monster masks were so primitive. Bon weekend, pal. ** Empty Frame, Hey, man. My illness is dying a painfully slow death. Oh, so you've broken totally free now. Vacuum a field? Wha? How? That's a pretty idea. I get back to Paris from Brest on the 20th, so our timing works out pretty good. Super glad you like the Kristof. An under-celebrated masterwork, that one, if you ask me. And hotcha on that sale of your self-portrait. Whoa, very, very nice. Good omen-like too, I reckon. Enjoy the rural, pal. ** Joseph, Hey. I highly recommend reading R-G. Well, obviously, I guess. Great if unsurprising news about the big thumbs up from The Rumpus! Do let me know when my eyes can own it. You have to work on Easter? How fucking uncivilized of the hotel. My sickness is taking its god damned sweet time, and I'm annoyed. But, you know, c'est la vie, etc. ** _Black_Acrylic, Awesome! Easter is now complete! Everyone, if I can have your attention for a moment. The new issue of the unspeakably mighty zine Yuck 'n Yum is real, available, free, and viewable with the merest of clicks. Among its many treasures are pieces by our friend and YnY co-editor Ben Robinson, the explosively talented writer and artist and d.l. Nick Brooke aka Put The Lotion In The Basket, and the artist of every sane person's dreams and d.l. Kier Cooke Sandvik. And that's just scratching the surface. Head over here asap and read or download all the greatness. It's important. Dude, awesome, congrats, and thank you severely. This is going to be the best Easter ever! ** Bill, Wow, you sound incredibly alert for a guy who just flew more miles than ever should exist. And you have a gig tonight? Yikes, indeed. Pray tell what you did and how it went and everything. It's really nice to have you on this big stretch of land. ** Ken Baumann, Hey, Ken. Oh, I love 'Nog'. It's incredible. Wurlitzer is an incredible and an under-sung genius fiction writer across the board, I think. 'Quake' is great too. His latest novel 'The Drop Edge of Yonder', a kind of psychedelic western that Two Dollar Radio published a couple of years ago, is one of his very best. Interesting about the comparison to Blake's writing. Yeah, I can totally see that. So, has he read Wurlitzer? I'd guess so, but hm. Awesome that you're getting into Wurlitzer's fiction. Yeah, he's amazing. How's your Easter weekend shaping up? Traditional or experimental? ** Justin, Makes total sense on why the really old sewing machines are the rulers. Like muscle cars, that's nice. Are they technically harder or more laborious to work with? Found anything you like and want to buy yet? ** Alan, Fuck prematurity. Yeah, I know what you mean. ** Kier, Oh, so the school rules are much more rigid or something in Norway. Strange, or strange to someone lime me who's used to American casualness. Will you need to keep living at home for financial reasons? Or is there a rule that you have to live at home until you graduate high school or something? Anyway, it's not like having real world company, but we'll do everything we can to keep you inspired and tweaked and all that good stuff. Come visit Oscar and KP and me in Paris. Is there not a way? My happiness mission had a mixed result. The Christophe Honore thing I mentioned above was pretty cool, but I still feel pretty bleah physically. Are you doing Easter or anything? A huge boatload of love to you, man. ** Little foal, Hey, my friend. I really appreciate the sleepy hello, thank you. I hope your weekend ensues beautifully. ** JW Veldhoen, New tattoo of what? Oh, your new Transductions thing is awesome just like Tom's. Let me ... Everyone, Mr. JW Veldhoen has a very picturesque and whip smart new post over at Transductions called 'assburger (no fooling)', and you should look at it, definitely, no question about it. I don't know of any inkers in NYC. I bet Math might. ** Stan_cz, Without translators, I'd probably still be a little slug living fruitlessly in the San Gabriel Valley. Oh, no, there are a bunch of contemporary writers continuing the tradition of Sade either accidentally or deliberately. Off the top of my head, there's Peter Sotos, Pierre Guyotat, James Havoc, Urs Allemann, Jesse Hudson, ... and I'm sure I could come up with many more names if my wits were more about me at the moment. It's a tradition that's in no danger of dying out, that's for sure. ** Steevee, Hm, very curious. So, what was his important issue? ** Misanthrope, I think you should write it down in a journal, yeah. It could be a best seller, if that's a not a horrible thing to say. Hugs, man. ** Alec Niedenthal, Yeah, pretty great stuff, that R-G excerpt, no? Dorna's a serious hero. Can't wait to read your reviews. Where will they appear? Justin's novel? Man, fortunate you to get your early eyes on that. Hope your sleep did its business. I guess you aren't doing Easter? Me either. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, I'm glad you came around on the beauty of that particular day. I was pretty sure it was a beauty. It rained here too. Rained and rained. It still is. Great report on the grandparents visit. That imported beach was a very nice touch. Dude, broken record, but, dude, you're such a good writer. Seriously. You need to write your novel or book of stories or memoir or something. I mean it. Any chance you'll inherit any of their dough? I hope that's not a rude thing to ask. My day, hm. I worked on my novel. It needs so much work that I'm fighting the urge to feel overwhelmed and exhausted and hopeless every time I open the document. I did that for a bunch of the day. The definite highlight was that thing I told David E. up there about chatting on FB with Christophe Honore and him asking me to act in his new film. I really love his movies, so, you know, whoa. I hope when he and I actually meet in person today, he doesn't decide I don't look right for the part or something. Oh, and he also typed that he has a dream to make a film of one of my novels. I typed that I would swoon and possibly die from excitement if he ever did that. He typed that he didn't know what the word 'swoon' means. (He says his English isn't very good). I typed an explanation of 'swoon'. He typed that he was excited that I was excited by that idea. Now I'm trying not to be overexcited. So, that was far and away the best thing of yesterday. Everything else was just the usual of late. So, yeah. At least I can tell you about the meeting with CH next time if nothing else. Also, Oscar and Kiddiepunk return from their time in Sicily on Sunday, so there'll be that. But I'll try to do something else and snazzy as well. Happy Easter weekend, man. Tell me what it was. ** Statictick, I like that name Noah the Fey. I think feyness is a divine characteristic. But the name is just cool too. If I started a band, I'll call it that. Crucifucks or DM Thomas would be just fine and dandy! ** No more teenagekicks, Oh, ha ha, wow, Christ. I hadn't seen that video of me before either. Yeah, that was shot during the rehearsals of Gisele's and my new theater piece. I wasn't going to mention quite yet that Bob Dylan is doing the score, but I guess the cat's out the bag now. Anyway, I guess I should say fuck modesty and share your find with the gang. Everyone, No more teenagekicks found a video of me on youtube that I had no idea was on there. Not to toot my own horn, but check it out. ** Creative Massacre, Yikes, pal. That's a lot of work. Sucks that the graveyard didn't work out, but I'll happily settle for the Jaws piece. Very good luck with that. I hope you can sneak in some chocolate Easter Bunnies. ** Jeff, Hey, man. Well, you should check with a doctor just to be safe, no? I mean I think you should. I'll see a doctor about my slow moving sickness if you see one about your thing. Deal? ** Bollo, Yeah, 'LA Ink', that's it. That's the only tattoo reality show I've ever seen. No, I've never heard of 'How Clean Is Your House'. I bet there's a youtube clip out there just waiting for me. Will you have time to make art this weekend maybe? It's a big holiday and all. Surely the art space will lock itself up. Or do you have obligatory, time consuming family gathering stuff? Here's hoping. ** Easter weekend calls to me now. Off I go. Let PTLITB and Eurovision wash over you between now and Monday. See you then.
