Its not often I advise you to read an Phoblacht, but if readers are so inclined they should go the current edition and read the piece entitled
Charlie Mc Glade Commemoration
Which took place in Drimnagh last weekend
Who was Charlie Mc Glade ?
He was an IRA torturer. In September 1941 the IRA was reeling from the successes of the Gardai in curbing its activities. Some were convinced there was a mole and a team came down from Belfast to try and plug the leak. They took into custody the chief of staff, Stephen Hayes who eventually wrote a long “confession” of his co operation with the security services. He was encouraged in this by Charlie Mc Glade who pulled out his toenails with electrical pliers
Given the amount republicans suffered at the hands of the British security forces particularly in the period after internment have they no sense of irony in holding commemorations of this type?
So when you are considering how to vote on Lisbon think of the Charter of Fundamental Rights
And think of Charlie Mc Glade
