I think we also worked on the lighting and getting the robot to work right. It has to hold its arm in one particular position to make the hand puppet move correctly, and the position is not ideal, so we were trying to see if we could cheat a little, and trying that for hours, but I think we only managed to cheat just a little bit. Anyway, it was a long day. We broke for lunch and a quick dinner, and I got back to the hotel really late again, only to find yet another loud club going on in the hotel, not techno but some kind of like rock/jazz fusion thing, shaking my room until the wee hours, so, again, I got really bad sleep that night. On Sunday, I was falling asleep all day. We worked and worked, mostly programming the robot: syncing up the talking, movements, and the lighting effects so they'll be able to happen automatically. It was a very tedious, time consuming thing. And we didn't even finish the syncing of Stephen and Peter's score, so we have to do that today. So much for our original idea of having the piece finished by Saturday. I kept chug-a-lugging coffee all day because I was a wreck. We broke for crepes. I broke to have coffee and a visit with d.l. and Brest resident Renaud, and that was really nice. The robot got a haircut. Jonathan Capdevielle arrived and helped out with the robot stuff. We were busy every minute, but it would be too tedious to tell you all the details because it was really repetitive and involved in minutiae. I stumbled back to the hotel about 11 pm or so, and, miraculously, there was no club event last night, so I just fell on the bed, watched some TV (Japan news and a documentary on early Hollywood movie studios) and konked out. I think we'll finish the piece today. Well, we sort of have to. I think I might start getting interviewed for The Paris Review today too, but I can't remember for sure. I'm really spaced.
