p.s. RIP: J.D. Salinger. His work was major to me and to mine. Hey. I'm getting a late start today, so I'll just keep moving along. ** Sam Smith, Hello, welcome, and thanks for posting. ** Jose, Yesterday was huge, man. Thank you so much again. ** Misanthrope, So your demon is a leg man. I wonder how common that is among demons. I both can and can't believe you still haven't been paid. Can because I still haven't been paid for upwards of 80 'Jerk' performances, and can't because I'm an optimist. Strongly worded and certified sounds about right. ** Allesfliest, Yeah, that's the spirit, but I guess you have no choice, and the waiting game should work, I think. Since you're all into spending your money and everything, when are you gonna make that long vaguely promised trip to this Paris joint? ** David Ehrenstein, That Honore review is good to read. Interesting. Yeah, pretty much all the other ones I've read were pooh-poohers, but I didn't know it's been something of a box office success. Anyway, I'm there. Ha ha, yikes, re: post-your latest FaBlog, I think I'll now second Bernard's wish that I don't die before you do. I really do need to stop smoking. ** David, Hey, David. Good to see you. You've been missed. What's the story on that interesting sounding anthology that you status-updated about over on FB? ** Tosh, Hey. Of course, you would know Lewis Furey. Apparently he has quite the cult following over here, which I didn't know until a couple of days ago. He's doing a rare five night run of performances, and not in a small venue either. I'm going to try to go. ** Tomas, Hey, T. Weather's kind of shit again today. Why are things a bit bizarre with you? Warmest greetings, and I hope things are good with you, the bizarre parts notwithstanding. ** Alan, Hey. Well, I developed that structuring idea for the Cycle, but I've continued to use it in every novel since to one degree or another. It's kind of the only way I know how to write a novel, and it's the only method I've found that keeps me interested enough in writing them. If I had to rely on using narrative and the characters and so on to solely institute progression in a novel, and if I basically had to rely on that brand of mimicry to make fiction work, I can't imagine that I would even begin to want to write novels anymore at all. So, yeah, it's a constant. ** Bill, I will take you up on that, probably pretty soon. The Egoyan-related offer of help, I mean. Dealing with Sonia might be part of the problem. She's cool, but I don't think she's completely on the ball. Chrystel should be in the office today, and I have to go there to buy some washing machine coins anyway, so I'll fish and pass along the response. Wow, that waxwork at La Specola is really something, thank you. Everyone, via Bill, this little thing is is heavily worth a look. ** Statictick, Well, if you can fit 17 people into it, it qualifies as being in the big category, but I'm living by Paris standards these days, mind you. ** Sypha, ... which reminds me to remind you that, yes, you should do that 'Death Note Day' one of these days, if and only if our mutual reminders find favor inside you. Logan Lerman: Never heard of him before. Hold on, I'll do a quick check. Oh, I get it. Mm, he doesn't do much for me on first look. I don't detect any complexity or haunted subtext right off the bat. Why, do you like him? He has a sort of Adam Lambert resemblance thing going on in his face maybe. ** Christopher/ Mark, That great sentence was the font of so much, a lot of it great too. People can say what they want about Salinger, but his prose electrified me when I was younger, and it was shocking and reinventing to me that his prose and its precise concerns were coming from an American writer, too. ** Chilly Jay Chill, Yeah, I'm a bit antsy waiting for word on whether there are unpublished mss. stored away in his house or not. Also hoping against hope that Salinger's passing might facilitate Malick's long time plan/hope to make a film of 'Catcher'. He's the only director I can think of who could do it justice. I'll go check my email, thanks. And awesome about the Cortazar post! ** Adjoun, That film series is a nice way to mark the occasion. Nice website. I like the clean but kind of trashy design, etc. Polish punk! Wow, what a wild, great idea. Why? ** Chris (British), So how were those Vultures then? Wow, I don't have the time now to really dig into that guy's screed, but, even starting to read it, the crazy nervous energy was like a force field. I'll check on him and the follow up stuff later. Everyone, Bill says: 'I thought y'all might be interested to read the ramblings of a genuinely schizophrenic man. Of particular interest are his police complaint and his complaint to the BBC.' I'll just add that having peeked at that stuff, it's pretty fascinating, yeah. ** Ken Baumann, Kenster! 'Confident in the pattern': those are soothing words. Can't wait to have a tete a tete about your novel come March and come LA. Oh, your Sundance report over on HTMLG is great, and you saw 'Enter the Void'! And your reaction to it made me even crazier with the anticipatory stuff. Hold on. Everyone, the multi- and magnificently talented Ken Baumann just made a short but crucial visit to Sundance, and he reports back at HTMLG, meaning here, and it's a swell report, and you should give it a read, and not only because he saw 'Enter the Void' and lived to write about it. Facebook message, cool, I'll go retrieve it. Best to you, Ken. ** Bollo, Hope those funders have brains those heads of theirs. One wonders, but one can hope. I'll go read that Kevin Smith thing, but, forewarning-wise, he's up or rather down there among my least favorite film directors in the world. I'm totally with you about Parkett. I wrote for a thing for them on Charles Ray once and hoped that would buy me a lifetime free subscription, but no go. So now I just flip through it at the store and think about slipping it under my coat. ** Pisycaca, Yeah, there's good reason to hope, and there's absolutely no benefit in not hoping with great determination. My mom was in her mid-80s when she died. How is your dad and how are you guys doing today? ** Thomas Moronic, Oh, a Warren Ellis Day would be fantastic if you can manage it and if you don't mind. I'm also sorely in need of guest-posts at the moment 'cos I need to build the blog a decent future due to my upcoming two weeks of heavy theater rehearsals. Anyway, thank you a ton for the offer, no matter what. ** Steevee, I haven't seen 'Citadel'. Been wanting to. For me too, I haven't fully liked any Egoyans post-'The Sweet Hereafter'. I wonder what happened? ** Kier, That light thing sounds weirder and more interesting all the time. You said 'tricycle' because you're a poet. Lucky you that you got Godflesh as Sunn0)))'s opener. We get a band called Eagle Twin. I don't know them, but Stephen says they're good. I'm going the earplugs route, no question about it. I've been burned before, and the venue -- Point Ephemere -- is the size of a large kitchen. It kind of freaked me out watching what's-her-name from 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' get slaughtered in 'Hostel 2'. It seemed so interestingly very wrong. ** Killer Luka, It went fine, as far as I can tell, although haywire seems to be the byword in this situation. I'll shoot them a follow up in a bit to be safe. ** Heliotrope, Hey, Mark! Yeah, Joel told me Kaya did a big, wonderful bouncing back trick. Whew, my friend. Oh, interesting about the BBC 6 radio thing, yeah. It's online, I guess you're saying? I'll go find it. Yeah, that's definitely a plus. I love you guys too. ** Creative Massacre, Hey, pal. Well, I mean, that's ultimately good that she called and that you guys talked. I always think it's better to know something than be forced to let your imagination decide what's going on, but then my imagination's a weird thing. Listen, you're a very cool dude yourself, my friend. And I'm sure glad I've been able to be your friend. Hm, yeah, I think I know what you mean in your question, and, sure, I'm pretty sure I've experienced that and probably often, maybe. It's tricky, right? Logic vs. instinct. It's weird when they aren't in sync. Which one are you going to go for? ** Armando, Hey, man. Yeah, I know, it's awful about Salinger. I'm trying to look on the so-called bright side by hoping he was writing all those years and that now we'll get to read what he wrote finally. But, yeah, I know. Definitely sucks. How are you doing in general? ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey, Ben. Thinking there might well be people in your vicinity who read this blog, let me pass along your alert. Everyone, here's _Black _Acrylic: 'Just on the off chance, any d.l. types reside around Edinburgh at all? If so then Yuck 'n Yum will appear at the Collective gallery on Sunday at 2pm: LINK.' Wish I was nearby. ** Justin, Hey. Oh, it's perfectly okay to miss a day. I only wish I could, ha ha. Great about the Stewart Home Day. Again, if I can help out in any way, just ask without hesitation. I'm sad about Zelda Rubenstein too. None of the obits seem to mention this, but she was also the great, creepy narrator of a favorite old TV show of mine (and one of the instigators of the blanketing paranormal reality show fad du jour): 'The World's Scariest Places'. Very lucky for me, no one who writes or makes documentaries about Rodney's seems to have a clue or care that I was a regular, but, ugh, it's true I might be glimpsed in the shadows of whatever footage they use, but hopefully I'll be unrecognizable. I think Gareth Pugh had some dead vermin in his new collection. Or maybe dead octopi, I couldn't tell. ** Casey McKinney, My money is on that Easton Ellis tweet being a faker's tweet. The sense of humor is right, but the sentence itself just didn't have his earmarks. Man, that observation was pretty trainspotter of me, I guess. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, It's pouring cats and dogs here too. What a weird phrase that is. I hope it's sunny where you are by now, and, you being in Texas, it seems like there's a pretty good chance. Actually, those impossible and useless new supermarket bags I mentioned are a ploy to get people to buy the sturdy bags, which are Go Green bags translated into France. 'Ugly Man' and 'Smothered in Hugs' are for sale in the iPad store, so, naturally, I think the iPad is a must-have item, ha ha. My day: I don't think I mentioned it, or maybe I did, but I started getting a headache yesterday while I was doing the p.s., and it got worse during the rest of the day, and that kind of fucked my day up royally. I chug-a-lugged Dolipran, which bought me a few scattered, brief, and almost tolerable stretches of mild headache impairment, but the bulk of the day was pretty weighed down by my pounding head. I got one good novel idea that I'll try to implement today sans headache. Made one and a half blog posts too. I was going to do a studio visit with Scott Treleaven, but he delayed it until Saturday. Gisele called me to say that it's about 90% sure she and Stephen will move into the Recollets on March 8th for a two yearlong stay, so that was potentially very good news. I found a site/page that featured a whole bunch of free and rare-ish vidclips from the golden age (late 90s, early 00s) of Russian gay online porn, i.e. starring many of the great XXX performers of that era -- Ton! Klark! Chris! Vitya! Vitalik! Max! And on and on! -- and that was very cool, but then I forgot to bookmark the page, and I can't remember the address now, so maybe my headache just made it all up. I didn't do much else at all apart from eating and etc. Oh, I realized I need a haircut. I'll leave it there, and I'll await your day report whether it was The Fun Day or not. ** JW Veldhoen, I find going off that stuff helps with the writing, or at least it does with getting started. It makes so much sense that Richard Gere is a Twombly fan. Genesis has another opening? What a work horse. ** NB, Nothing hugely new here either. What can you do. Everyone, the masterful NB wish to add this baby to yesterday's anime beginnings post. There was some sexiness in there, nice. ** Alyssa Nolan, Hopefully you will never read that poem, although, I tell you what: I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Mine is irretrievable for the immediate future in a file in my archives, so I guess I mean someday. Yeah, being the revising and rewriting and etc. fetishist I am, that copywriting course caught my eye like a candy store. Fun weekend plans? Hm, my friend and former LHotB author Jim Greer is coming to Paris, so I'll maybe hang out with him. I'd like to see the new Coens movie. Probably see some of my local friends crew. I don't know. What about you? Is there imminent fun out there to be had by Alyssa? ** Lord_s, Oh right, sure, that's probably why they don't play here, assuming they don't, although France isn't very hard ass at all about bands or artists with bad pasts. Pete Doherty practically lives here he plays so much. I bet Burzum would get a hero's welcome. Ha ha, all right, I'll risk everything and ask Stephen where the fuck Black 2 is hiding. Snail mail address, no problem: c/o Centre International des Recollets, 150 rue du Faubourg St. Martin, 75010 Paris, France. Awesome, thank you, Lord. ** L@rstonovich, I totally hear you and agree without any reservation with your Salinger death moan. Dude was a notable construction worker on my project. New blog, excellent. I'm dashing away right now, but I'll greedily read what's there later. Everyone, one final worthy alert. The unimpeachable L@rstonovich aka the d.l. formerly known as Winter Rates, has a new blog that dawns with 'an excerpt from the forthcoming Harry Smith/ Marcel Duchamp Novel...' he's working on, and, you know, you definitely want to do the early bird thing, right? ** I must take my leave now. What would the waning hours of any month be without an accompanying slave post, I ask you? Oh, no, you needn't thank me. Just enjoy. That's all the reward and thanks I'll ever need. See you on Saturday.
