Mainstream Media Sat on Weinergate Until Anthony Weiner Admitted Posting Photo

Weinergate is in full thrust and poised to ejaculate a member of Congress. Too "pun on words" for the latest scandal rippling its way out of Washington? I'll say. What, exactly, is Weinergate?

The weiner jokes have been coming fast and furous since Congressman Anthony Weiner tweeted a picture of his underweared nether regions for benefit of his adoring followers. Last Wednesday, Conservative talk show hosts got wind of blogger Andrew Breitbart's take on the picture and have been spanking the story ever since.

At first, in an underreported news conference, Congressman Weiner denied posting the picture, claiming someone must have hacked into his Twitter account to embarrass him. However, when pressed on the issue, he also admitted not reporting the incident to the police. Sort of strange, given that he's a member of Congress and may have been the victim of identity theft. He also refused to admit or deny whether his nether regions were the ones in the picture, saying that when your last name is Weiner, you're the victim of a lot of penis jokes.

And yet, the national news media barely touched the story. As far as I could tell, there was very little mention of it over the weekend, and if mentioned, it was mostly to portray the incident as a non-story. As recently as yesterday, when I mentioned the controversy to one of my dyed-in-the-wool Democrat friends, she had no idea what I was talking about. Therein lies the true controversy.

Forget about Congressman Weiner doing something so incredibly stupid as to make himself vulnerable to possible blackmail, ruining the lives of his incredibly trusting wife and family, and preying on Twitter groupies who think he's someone special because he wears a government identification badge and works in the Capitol. Forget about whether he should resign (he should), or whether his party should clean house by pressuring him to resign (they should), and forget about whether every single American should be up in arms knowing that a member of Congress is using his time to post penis pictures rather than try to resolve the budget crisis or bring down the price of oil (they should).

Right now, each and every American should be furious at the national news media for burying the story until Weiner decided to come clean in a second news conference. Last week, a Politico blogger characterized the story as an "ambiguous online mini-scandal." Well, if not for the pressure of one relentless blogger, independent web sites, and one very out-spoken woman from Texas, Americans might still be in the dark about the incident, or under the mistaken impression that the story isn't news.

Yesterday, to the chagrin of Nancy Pelosi, who vowed to clean up Washington and keep a tight reign on her party, Congressman Weiner, Democrat New York, finally admitted to posting a picture of himself in his underwear for all the world to see. He also apologized ad nauseum to everyone and their brother, sickeningly so, if you ask me. Too little too late and fuel for the fire to run him out of office, but at least now the national news media is reporting the story.

Not that they had a choice. Now, even late night talk show hosts are taking pot shots at Weiner. By the time that happens, you can stick a fork in the story and roast it for breakfast.

Rapture and Social Media Likes and Dislikes ...

Last Saturday on “I’m With Stupid” we provided instant analysis of the rapture and then talked social media likes and dislikes. Also, we got a call on the hotline from our Dutch correspondent Guy Ahnyurdyck and of course we played the first promo for our new online business venture IWSAPDSMSUS. All in all it was a pretty fun 45 minutes full of frivolity and awesomeness. Well, mostly anyway.

And for making you put up with my promoting my podcast, here’s Selena Gomez from the Billboard Music Awards last night. Sans Justin Bieber, of course.

Kini Telepon Bisa Lewat Gmail Google

Meski begitu, panggilan internasional masih dikenakan biaya. Hal ini dilakukan agar Google tetap mendapat keuntungan. Kabar baiknya, Google berencana terus membuat panggilan domestik gratis. |inilah.com/mt|

The Big Four-Three ...

So it's official, or about to be official depending on when you read this, I'm another year older. Yup, I've hit the big, meaningful and always formidable age of 43. The big FOUR-THREE baby. The age I've been dreading. Some people worry about nice round numbers like 30 or 40 or 50. Not me. 43 has always been the one I feared. But, it's here now, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

I can't wait to see what kinds of shitty changes this age brings. Over the last few years things have been going downhill. I can no longer handle spicy foods. I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee more often than I used to. And, I've found that my “system” has become increasingly sensitive to greasy (and by “greasy” I mean “good”) foods. Oh and the hemorrhoids. TMI?

So, naturally I'm assuming that 43 is actually the magical age where things really begin to accelerate and my total physical and mental collapse will begin in earnest this year. I can't wait.

I don't have anything much planned. Just hang out, drink heavily and cry over my lost youth and rapidly dimming hopes for the future. You know, the usual.

If you wanted to get me something for my birthday, you could always listen to the awesome surprise birthday party Matt-Man threw for me on “I'm With Stupid” and get all your friends to do so too...

Oh, you GOTTA listen to the beautiful and talented Desert Rat singing “Happy Birthday” to me on the show...

How HAWT was that?

Oh, and check out my birthday present from Kim Fragile...

How freakin' sweet is that?

And, I again want to thank Saturday Night Live for giving me Miley Cyrus hosting as my birthday present. She did a great job.

Oh, and thanks to Esquire for giving me Stacy Keibler for my b-day. That's nice!

Speaking of Blog Talk Radio. You know what those petty, meanies have done now? They've blocked Google and Skype on host lines for free shows. WTF? I emailed them asking about this and, as I expected, they didn't respond. I understand restricting time and space for non-premium hosts because they do need to make money, after all. But, blocking us from using Google or Skype to host our shows seems really shitty.

But, the social media world taketh away and giveth too. I've switched to using TweetDeck for all my Twitter needs and, after accidentally Direct Messaging three people, including myself, things are going pretty good there. I especially love the ability to filter out lots of hash tags, keywords and even certain people on certain days of the week who annoy me with their moronic tweets.

And of course over on Facebook I'll get lots and lots of happy birthday wishes today. Unfortunately a lot of those wishes will come from people I didn't even realize were on my friend's list. I suck at Facebook. I keep trying, but can't seem to get any better at it. But, with the new laptop I no longer have compatibility issues, so maybe I'll be a better Facebooker from now on.

Well, I don't want this post to get too long, so on this birthday I want to thank all of you guys for you general awesomeness and your interesting, funny, thoughtful and clever blogs, tweets, tumbles, status updates and comments. This whole “going downhill rapidly” thing wouldn't be nearly as fun without you!

Socila Media is Tough on Shy Types ...

So the other day my status update on Facebook was “I think I'm going to send a friend request to every person on each of my friend's friend's lists.”

Okay, even though that would be kind of hilarious, I wasn’t really serious.  But, when I noted that Matt-Man had added a bunch of people and now had MORE friends on Facebook than me, I figured I needed to step my Facebook Friends game up.  So, I did send out a good number of friend requests.

All but two were ignored.

Oh man, this is why I don’t do friend requests on Facebook too often.  Unless they’re just so damn hot/funny/cool/friendly etc that I can’t resist.  It’s just a total ego destroyer to have a friend request ignored.

Not the random “they look like they’re pretty funny or interesting” person so much, but the ones who have like 10 or 13 friends in common? Yeah, that kinda sucks.  Oh and the ones who send out mass emails about this or that and then say “Don’t forget to add me on Facebook” and then I do and it gets ignored.  That’s just fucking rude right  there.

Actually, I don't care. No really. I don't. I don't care if they don't want me on their friend list or not. It's not a big deal. I mean, I don't actually know these people. But, being rejected? That part sucks. That's why I don't send out too many friend requests.

I guess it's just human nature to focus on the handful of rejections instead of the 165 who either accepted or sent me a friend request. Much like focusing more on the negative comments about this blog or the radio show than the positive.

I mean, 99% of the people I've experienced here in the bloggerhood and when it comes to the show have been really supportive and shit like that. Many of them VERY much so. So, there's really no reason to focus so much on that one bitter, angry old hag to called the show “crap.” Right? And I really shouldn't react by caller her a “bitter, angry old hag” should I?

For some of us, putting ourselves “out there” on blogs and Twitter and Facebook and internet radio shows is much harder than for others. Some people have no problem with this shit. They're such extroverts that doing this stuff is routine and no big deal at all.

Hell, Avitable is taking a stand-up comedy class and is about to get up on stage and do a comedy bit IN FRONT OF PEOPLE! That's something I really don't think I could do. I'm considering doing my next Monologue Blog, like the one I did last week as an audio blog. Which is scary enough as it is. But, to make it easier, I'm thinking about adding the “ba-dum-bum” sound and even the sound effect of people laughing so I'll think I'm funny to the audio file.

It took me like two years to finally convince myself to do a blog. And then it took more than three years to talk myself into doing a radio show. Even after five years, many times I sit here with the cursor sitting over the “publish” button wondering if I really want to do this. After 23 radio shows I still sit here ten minutes til 10 o'clock ready to call in and I get all nervous and shit. And five years from now I'll probably still have that same feeling of nervousness and panic when posting or hosting.

Which is just totally ridiculous. I go through these periods where I don't blog, not because I don't have anything to blog about, but I just don't wanna publish it. Is that silly or what? By now it should all be sure easy and casual and not be a problem at all. Instead, it sometimes seem like it's getting harder rather than easier. And I do realize this seems weird since I just hit 30,000 tweets tonight. But, I honestly have the same problems there sometimes. Oh and Facebook. I keep trying to be more involved on Facebook, but it just doesn't seem to happen. Probably too much family there though.

Does anyone else have this same problem? Or maybe I just take all this shit way to seriously? That's probably it.

Also, everyone go over and wish Matt-Man a happy birthday. Or send him nude pics. Or both.

Epic Show!

This week's episode was non-stop fun and excitement talking about blogging and social media.  While you're listening try to guess how many hours it had been since I slept and how many beers Matt-Man had drunk.  (Hint: Guess high on both) Good times baby!

Also, we had a great interview with Dianne about BOTH of her blogs HERE and HERE.

And, Dana called in!

Then Mike called in from the Bingo Parlor, but I wasn't supposed to pick up the line.  Sorry about that dude.
