Mainstream Media Sat on Weinergate Until Anthony Weiner Admitted Posting Photo

Weinergate is in full thrust and poised to ejaculate a member of Congress. Too "pun on words" for the latest scandal rippling its way out of Washington? I'll say. What, exactly, is Weinergate?

The weiner jokes have been coming fast and furous since Congressman Anthony Weiner tweeted a picture of his underweared nether regions for benefit of his adoring followers. Last Wednesday, Conservative talk show hosts got wind of blogger Andrew Breitbart's take on the picture and have been spanking the story ever since.

At first, in an underreported news conference, Congressman Weiner denied posting the picture, claiming someone must have hacked into his Twitter account to embarrass him. However, when pressed on the issue, he also admitted not reporting the incident to the police. Sort of strange, given that he's a member of Congress and may have been the victim of identity theft. He also refused to admit or deny whether his nether regions were the ones in the picture, saying that when your last name is Weiner, you're the victim of a lot of penis jokes.

And yet, the national news media barely touched the story. As far as I could tell, there was very little mention of it over the weekend, and if mentioned, it was mostly to portray the incident as a non-story. As recently as yesterday, when I mentioned the controversy to one of my dyed-in-the-wool Democrat friends, she had no idea what I was talking about. Therein lies the true controversy.

Forget about Congressman Weiner doing something so incredibly stupid as to make himself vulnerable to possible blackmail, ruining the lives of his incredibly trusting wife and family, and preying on Twitter groupies who think he's someone special because he wears a government identification badge and works in the Capitol. Forget about whether he should resign (he should), or whether his party should clean house by pressuring him to resign (they should), and forget about whether every single American should be up in arms knowing that a member of Congress is using his time to post penis pictures rather than try to resolve the budget crisis or bring down the price of oil (they should).

Right now, each and every American should be furious at the national news media for burying the story until Weiner decided to come clean in a second news conference. Last week, a Politico blogger characterized the story as an "ambiguous online mini-scandal." Well, if not for the pressure of one relentless blogger, independent web sites, and one very out-spoken woman from Texas, Americans might still be in the dark about the incident, or under the mistaken impression that the story isn't news.

Yesterday, to the chagrin of Nancy Pelosi, who vowed to clean up Washington and keep a tight reign on her party, Congressman Weiner, Democrat New York, finally admitted to posting a picture of himself in his underwear for all the world to see. He also apologized ad nauseum to everyone and their brother, sickeningly so, if you ask me. Too little too late and fuel for the fire to run him out of office, but at least now the national news media is reporting the story.

Not that they had a choice. Now, even late night talk show hosts are taking pot shots at Weiner. By the time that happens, you can stick a fork in the story and roast it for breakfast.

Robin Williams - Back on Cocaine?

Did anyone see The Late Show with David Letterman? I got home late last night because I was at the Baltimore Blast game, so it took me a while to wind down. While channel surfing I caught Robin Williams being introduced on The Late Show.

I shrugged and decided to watch it for a minute or until I was totally annoyed or bored, which I expected would be in about 11 seconds. Surprisingly, however, Williams was really funny. Although he looks like he's in his late 60's now (he did have heart surgery about a year ago), he was all wound up. This is a huge surprise because Robin Williams hasn't been funny since he was on cocaine back in the Mork & Mindy days.

And his movies over the past 20 years? If it was meant to be a comedy - then it sucked! So it was refreshing to see the "old" Robin Williams back. And if he's on cocaine, that's okay with me because he makes me laugh.

David Letterman's Penis, Jessica Simpson's Weight and Megan McCain's Boobs...

They’re all connected …

Look, a cheater is a cheater, whether he's a politician, entertainer, athlete or just a guy down the block. I have the same lack of respect for any and all of them. That said, Letterman isn't a politician who has spent his life sitting in judgment of others while portraying himself as perfect. He also hasn't compared himself to King David, nor has he done some interview with his wife sitting next to him saying that he doesn't have to answer to anyone because God has already forgiven him. As if he and God sat down and worked out over a couple of beers.

Of course, there are a lot of people out there, mostly "feminist" writers for snooty newspapers like the New York Times, and a couple of the ladies of "The View" who are waving the sexual harassment flag even though none has been alleged by ANY woman who has EVER worked for Letterman. The media is doing everything it can to try to find someone, ANYONE to come out make allegations of sexual harassment against Letterman. But, so far none have.

Sorry ladies, but you can't play the victim card on other people's behalf. If any woman who has ever worked for Letterman were to come out, without being paid to do so, and tell us that Letterman punished women who didn't sleep with him or made sleeping with him a requirement for a job or promotion or anything like that, then I'll revisit this issue. But, until then, it just looks like we have consenting adults agreeing to engage in adult behavior. And, as hard as it is for some people to believe, women are fully capable of making the decision to enter into adult relationships without being forced or manipulated into it.

Also, we now find out that Jimmy Kimmel is dating one of HIS writers. Where's the outrage? Or does Kimmel's show not get enough ratings for it to be worth it to go after him too? I know the ladies of The View can't hold Kimmel to the same standard as they do Letterman since he works for their network, so it will be up to the feminist writers to carry the load on this one.

As for Jessica Simpson, last Sunday on their football preview show, Fox ran a truly cruel and viscous animated video. It was supposed to be making fun of Cowboys QB Tony Romo, but the whole video actually focused on Jessica Simpson allegedly being "Fat." It was probably the most mean spirited thing I've seen in a long time.

Again, were are all the ladies of The View and the feminist writers now? Maybe if they weren't so obsessed with where David Letterman was putting his penis, they could take a minute or two to defend women from attacks on their body shape by the Neanderthals at Fox.

“Fat” Jessica…

Which also brings me to Megan McCain. Ms McCain is a bit of a Twitter Superstar. She is quite popular on there and spends a fair amount of time interacting with people through it. Like many of us, she likes to post pics. Wed night she posted this pic of her kicking it at home...

Well needless to say Twitter lit up like Rockefeller Center at Christmas time. Of the hundreds and hundreds of responses she got, some were rather negative. Their were some people who called her a "slut" and others who called her "fat."

Believe or not, Megan was a bit upset by this reaction. I don't know why either. I did a search for replies to Megan and actually found that the positive responses outnumbered the negative ones by at least 200 to 1. Honesty, there were only a handful of negative responses.

But, Megan made the mistake that so many people make. She issued an apology to anyone who was "offended" by her pic.

Please stop doing this people. Nobody was offended by the pic. It's all so fake. And once you issue the apology they've won. They now feel empowered to go after you for even less significant things.

Seriously Megan, don't give in to these people.

Oh that’s right, I forgot. According some people, Jessica and Megan deserve this treatment. Just like ESPN’s Erin Andrews “wanted” to have some perv take a hidden camera video of her and post it on the net, or that she “had it coming.”

And it’s amazing how many of the people who say these terrible things about Jessica and Megan are women. Something that the red hot Dianne talked about in her post today. (Well, she talked about women's body image, but she included women trashing other women.)

You gotta wonder how these people would have treated Marilyn Monroe if she were around today. I guess she’d be too fat too…
