An enormous number of images from gay porn magazines of the 1970s and '80s have recently become available on the Internet, due to the generosity of collectors who scan and post huge caches of magazines. I'd like to share some with you from time to time on Dennis' blog, as I work my way through the stuff. I think the selections represent a lot of the codes and conventions of male homoerotic images in the days when I was developing my tastes and fixations and responses to men. Even though I'm inclined to smile at a lot of this stuff, I'm sort of shocked to realize that it defines the nostalgic power of photography for me a lot more than any family pictures. (Probably something about me and my family more than the era, I think.)

p.s. Hey. The Bernard Welt of legend has you figured out for the weekend. Please fulfill his generous requirements however you see fit. And report back in kind, of course. Thank you bottomlessly, B. ** Bernard Welt, And there you are! Yes, it's true, my thanks to you are literally bottomless. Oh, and yes, that one guy up there does look weirdly like you-know-who. Has anyone remarked upon how odd it is that Martin Scorcese would want to make a documentary about Fran Leibowitz? It's seems odd to me. But then the mere fact that he has made a movie that doesn't have Leonardo DiCaprio in it seems odd to me. Unless he's in it talking about how his parents used to know her or something. That was an entertaining murder story, you're right. I came right out and said it. ** David Ehrenstein, Did Fellini make movies without a Rota score? I can't think of any. The last ones? Oh, cool about the 'Mike's Murder' DVD. My cousin is one of the stars: Brooke Alderson, wife of the poet/critic Peter Schjeldahl. I think she plays Winger's mother? I can't recall. ** Misanthrope, Wisdom tooth, oh. Well, those suckers usually end up getting yanked out in most people's cases, I guess. Not mine. When I was a kid, my teeth were slightly too far apart, and then my wisdom teeth came in and smashed them together. So my wisdom teeth were good guys. Pretty rare, I guess. Yeah, I'll be there in January for the 'Them' shows. I'm in the thing. I have to be there. ** Pilgarlic, I did have the green bamboo one last year. Good memory. This year, I will be eating the Michalak car-shaped one and the Christian Lacroix one. At the very least. ** Steevee, SP sounded okay enough, but I didn't get why The Wire would be all over them. Really great news about the second actor! Congrats to you both! I hope the email discussions go very well. ** Kiddiepunk, No joke, right? We need to set our Buche date so I can order it. I hear you're working your ass off up there. Me too. Let's break for a coffee today if not Harry Potter or something. ** Josh Feola, Beijing, wow. Why are you there? How has my blog escaped the Chinese internet police? Anyway, yeah, that's super interesting. ** Oscar B, I know, I know, I know. Oh, the KTL/movie thing last night was cool. Let's meet later and discuss it and other matters. Snow! ** Bill, Yeah, the axe/Herme one was seriously in my running. Maybe I'll buy three buches. Dude, make them give you an extension. Shall I organize a letter writing campaign? You know I would. ** Sypha, So sorry it took me so long. The new blog looks fantastic! Keep it up. Everyone, the one and only Sypha has just started up a new blog, and it's already filling up with all kinds of Sypha rarities and Buche de Noel-worthy texts and juvenilia. You need to check it out and get it bookmarked pronto. It's called The Onyx Glossary, and it exists right here. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey. Wow, that's cool. I mean the 'Daily DCs' thing. Being turned into an advent calendar is up there with directing a porn film as one of my biggest dream come true ideas. Uh, now I feel self-conscious. I have to pretend I don't know you're looking for quotes or I'll start talking too fancy or something. But, yeah, wow, thanks, B. Oh, and both Paris and myself send Yuck 'n Yum our very best wishes for the holidays! It just started snowing here. Man, I hope it isn't doing that in Dundee right now. ** Andrew, Food porn, exactly. And I don't mean the whole phallic/ ribbed condom association thing. Oh, I'm sure that college lady is used to it. ** Jose, Hey, man! Holy shit. I didn't know about that. I knew about the incident, but not about the video. Wow. That's really haunting and disturbing and kind of amazing. Thanks, J. Everyone, courtesy of Jose and if you're interested: 'Video has been released of a teen's dramatic escape in 2008 from his next-door neighbor's house, where he had been tortured for more than a year. In the video, Kyle Ramirez, then 16, runs into a health club wearing only boxer shorts and a shackle across his ankle. Anthony Waiters, 31, was convicted last week of torturing Ramirez, while three other defendants, who accepted plea deals, face sentencing on Monday.' ** Stan Czarnecki, Hey. Oh, right, you're an EU citizen, I spaced out. I'm hardly an expert on this stuff, but I can't think of any paid work you could do here without speaking French. I think you'd need to learn French pretty fluently to get a job here. That's what Yury had to do. He studied French daily for a year or even more, I think, and then he applied for jobs. But, honestly, I don't know the situation all that well. I know jobs are quite tight here due to the economical problems and all that. To get journalism gigs in the US, yeah, you'd just have to send the places your writing and hope, basically. When I was writing for US magazines a fair amount, they always paid by check, but that might not be a hard and fast rule. And the pay for those kinds of writing gigs isn't a lot at all unless you write for Conde Nast magazines or can get on staff as a regular contributor. Wish I could help you more. Anyway, I hope the film shoot today goes really well. Let me know. ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Yeah, totally. And that Xmas ornaments one is so tempting. I'm going to at least go gaze at it through the shop window. 'Under Pressure' must be a tough one to have stuck in your head because it's so cyclical. Yesterday, for some reason, I had 'Sport' by the Bonzo Dog Band stuck in my head all day. Don't know where that came from. It was evil. ** Emptythesun, Hey, Joseph! Awesome to see you! Awesome of you to stop by! Clearly, I need to hear that demo of 'Ghost Rider'. 'Punk Legends', okay, I'll try to dig that out of the internet or a store or something. Thanks. The Jim Carroll novel came out? Hunh, how did that slip by me? Weird. Sure, I'd totally love a copy. I'd read that he hadn't finished the last section of it, but I guess he did or someone did. Really looking forward to 'Courting the Jaguar'. Anyway, yeah, hey, and thanks a lot! ** Creative Massacre, Oh, I bet you could make one hell of a Buche de Noel. There are tons of recipes online if you need one. I've glimpsed Debbie Does Cakes. Yeah, it's very cool. Everyone, relative to yesterday's post and courtesy of Creative Massacre and recommended by me, Debbie Does Cakes. Congrats on scoring the prints. Very nice! Have an awesome weekend, pal. ** Squeaky, I hope our schedules coincide. Damn, wish I could be in NYC for your show. I'll miss it by a month or so. Damn. ** Well, I guess that's all of you. May your weekends by decorated by Bernard Welt, and may it snow or stop snowing where you are depending on your needs, and I'll see you on Monday.
