Hey. ** Bernard Welt, Uh, that was ... a surprise. I'll chalk it up to your incoming and outputting awesomeness yesterday. ** David Ehrenstein, Hey, D. Yeah, I'm really surprised at myself that I hadn't read Fanon before. One of those glitches. Pretty incredible book. Ha ha, thanks a lot for the great Tony/Joan story. Everyone, DE says 'Click This -- you won't be sorry'. ** 'Stoopid Slapped Puppies', And I thought the French postal service was bad, and it is, but the Spanish version does sound pretty crap. Re: the crazy email guy, I mean, it's not like I've kept my address here a big secret or anything. Strangely, I don't think I have any enemies in Paris. Wait, do I? No, except for this strange guy who deliberately and violently bumped into me (among others) on the street the other day and semi-knocked me down. He kind of sucks, whoever he was and wherever he is. Anyway, the email guy seems to think I live in the US. Long story. Anyway, sir Nick, I return your love and respect manyfold. ** Scunnard, Great sounding project, needless to say. As for advice, well, I tend to gather my stuff the laborious and probably old fashioned way, basically just doing google search after google search trying every variation I can think of on relevant terms, so, if you were me, you'd search using the words 'art missing broken unrealized' to start, check the results in the general web, images, video, and news options, and then begin mutating the search terms based on the results you get. Throwing Duchamp and Irwin's names in there, for instance, might get you some results due to comparisons that have been made in reviews, essays, and so on. That's basically what I do. It takes forever sometimes, but I don't know how else to do it. Sorry about that. Like I said, it's a really great idea you've got there, so I hope you can pan it out. ** Jon Reiss, Hi, Jon! Shade was a NY'er for ages, although I think he lives in the Northwest at the moment. But, yeah, you probably saw him around. 'Pan' is kind of the weakest Hamsun book in my opinion. I couldn't get through it either. Wow, so what did you end up asking Henry Rollins? I'm out of touch with the recent stuff he's done. Black Flag, his pretty terrific publishing house, acting in 'Lost Highway', ... that's pretty much the extent of my interest in the dude. I heard/read that the OFF album is very good. Hm, I'll check it. I know the film 'This Is England' yeah, and liked it a lot, but the TV series is news to me. I'll check that out too. You sound like you're doing pretty damned well. Are you? ** Jax, Hi, J. These crazy stalker types do arise, yes, and I'm just really grateful that they don't use the blog to act out their weirdness. Well, if you try your brother-in-law's wares, just make sure you're going to be in a comfortable and non-stressful state and location for the next some odd hours, ideally with a trusted person around. I'll spread your query. Everyone, here's d.l. Jax with a question for anyone to whom it applies: 'anyone done Salvia divinorum? If so, experiences sought:)'. Thanks. I tried both of Nick Cave's novels, and I could get very far into either one of them, especially the 'Bunny' one, which just didn't grab me in the slightest. A lot of smart people really like that 'Ass/Angel' one, though, so it's probably worth a look. ** Allesfliesst, Oh, nose links. Hold on. Okay, the one nose therein that's up the alley of mine that I discussed is this one. The others, not really. I have this photo somewhere on my computer or external hard drive of this boy who has the all time ideal nose of the type that murders me, and I searched and searched and couldn't find it yesterday. He was in one of the slave posts a long time ago. I'll keep trying. After I got the idea of showing him to you, no other noses seemed good enough to use as my example. Give me one more day. ** Empty Frame, Thank you, man. You're a reading machine, man, and I'm impressed. I'm just reading circuit, comparatively. All fine books too. Curious to hear how your writing goes once you transfer from input to out-. Today is Married Greek Day, eh? HMGD! Do you get all nervous beforehand? Tidy up, light incense, change clothes a hundred times, etc.? ** Pilgarlic, I sent my Icelander an email, so we will see. I'll see her in late February. Yeah, but my granddad did the ear thing every time he saw me, and that includes whenever he walked out of the room where I was located for 30 seconds. Great Don Kirschner stuff. Yeah, RIP. I was a Rock Concert watcher, and The Monkees were a plus, and Kansas were gruesomely bad IMO, but you can't win 'em all. One of the Archies songs was a pretty great bubblegum pop song, but I can't remember which one. No Tommy James, of course. Man, there's a kind of great pop minor genius guy who isn't as revered as he should be: Tommy James. Songs just don't get much better than, oh, 'Mirage'. My high school rock band used to cover that song. ** Alan, No, I think I'll read 'TWofE' next or soonish. The pre-feminist attitudes are of another time, and the topical references, but it seemed quite alive and fresh to me, or I got a lot out of it, at least. ** David, Hey. No, the email guy seems to be who he says he is. German living in Germany. Older. Published a couple of books back in the 80s, presumably before he went looney. ** Sypha, I still think Bret will write more novels. We'll see, but I can imagine him thinking 'IE' is right way to close the circle and then finding out later that the circle wasn't as neat and complete as he thought. ** L@rstonovich, The 'Orange Eats' book is really nice. Worth the read. I've been wanting to read that 'Spiderland' book, but those lyrics interpretations sounds kind of really painful. So, you saw Math? Awesome. Fun? I would imagine. ** Mark, Hi, Mark. Sorry, I got waylaid yesterday. Today sounds good. I'll call you once I finish this and get myself showered and stuff. ** Steevee, Fingers crossed that your editor is as wise as one would hope. ** Andrew, Hey. I saw a little of the Mugler show on video. Mm, I don't know. Yury thought it was so-so at best. Zombie Boy was a big so-what. I really like the new Gareth Pugh video/film/show, though No surprise. ** _Black_Acrylic, What a wild and zoomy and fine day you'll have today. So curious to get the reveal on your artwork. Have a blast and clue us in as you see fit, please. ** Toniok, Hello, Tk! 'Ablutions' in Spanish, very nice. No model yet? Fingers crossed. You still have some time, right? Oh, and thanks so much for the email and imbedded goodie, and I'll be writing to you very soon. Sorry about my usual slowness. You take care too. ** Daveyhoule, Thanks a lot, Davey! I'm excited! I'll write to you about it very soon. Great weekend right back at you. ** Chris Cochrane, Yes, very exciting and interesting news about the Zorn/THEM thing. I'll await further details. ** Statictick, Congrats on getting to physical therapy's finish line. Do you get to keep your Freddie K. meets E. Scissorhands arm contraption? Awfully cool if you can make that getaway to the West Coast. Yeah, vacation time should be your middle name. ** Creative Massacre, Happy to hear about the turnaround on the life and spirits front. That video was pretty sick, yes. Yikes, ouch, yikes. TNA in Paris? I'll check the prices. I'm so curious to see what a Paris wrestling audience would be like. I can't get my head around what the make up of that crowd would be. American pro wrestling seems so not French to me. It's weird. Thank you for the new links/vids, pal! You're so sweet. That's awesome. ** Misanthrope, Email, cool. I'll go find it. Well, yeah, they say types get set pretty early on. Even as a kid, I remember being drawn to boys about whom other kids would say stuff like 'he'd be really cute if he wasn't so weird'. You're sick again? I swear there's something wrong in your house besides the ghosts. Are you sure it wasn't built on a toxic waste dump or something? Feel better! Orders from Paris! ** Killer Luka, Hope your mood lightens and all that. You're going to draw Preston Andrews? He's one of my BC faves. I actually saw that he'd commented on your MP drawing on FB, and I sent him a friend request. And he accepted me. I'm so chuffed. On the repetitive thing, well, I guess I trust myself. If you're excited to make it, it's not repetitive. Pretty simple, I think. Like I think I always say, as long as you're worried that you'll get stagnant, you won't get stagnant. It's when you don't care if you get stagnant that you're fucked. So, you aren't. Don't worry. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hi. Well, who knows, maybe if the barista knew what you were thinking, he would have thought, hey, maybe if my arms are that interesting, I'm not such a bad guy after all! That image of your increasingly burqa-like pile of comforters plus 'Videodrome' was very nice. You're lucky you can watch TV in bed. The way this place is set up, the TV's cable connection is downstairs and the bed is up in the loft, so it's impossible. Oh, well. When I was growing up, I had a giant shower in my bedroom that I could lie down in, and I usually took showers lying down on the tile floor. I miss that. Oh, nice Amazon cart contents there, and I'm proud my 'MLT' was in it. Gosh. My day: another not interesting one. The good thing was that I didn't hear from crazy email guy. I guess he's doing the crazy thing on my agent now. But my agent will know the right legalese language to deal with him, I think. Or the crazy guy will get bored with the legalese and come back to haunt me. What else? I felt kind of spaced out all day. I don't know why. It has suddenly gotten cold and wintery here again, and maybe that's it. What else? A bunch of emailing vis a vis trying to see if the gig for 'Them' in Holland is going to happen for sure or not. Money issues. I talked to Gisele, who was on her way from Israel to Jordan, and we might have decided on the title of our new piece, we'll see. I spent a few hours putting together a blog post. I still didn't hear about my novel's acceptance or not from HP. I get a little more worried about that every day. This cool little video game store near where I live is closing, sadly, because business was bad, and, of course, now that they've put a 'going out of business' sign in the window, it's packed with customers. That always happens, I guess. I found myself starting to make notes about ideas for my next novel, but I'll probably do that for a long time before I figure it out. Uh, hm. It wasn't much of a day. I got bored and watched most of that movie with robots and Will Smith in it directed by Alex Proyas ... what's it called ... 'I, Robot' maybe? It sort of passed the time, and it made me want to watch 'Dark City' again and see Proyas' documentary film about Fad Gadget/ Frank Tovey. I'll spare you the rest of the boring details of yesterday. Maybe today will be better. I'm going to try. But first, how was Friday in your realm? ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Thank you, sir. For what, you ask? All of it. Frightened by it is good. Not too frightened, mind you. Keep those hands away from your eyes. Dude, I know you can do it, whatever it is. ** Brendan, Takes one to know one, buddy. ** Alexp336, Hey. It takes a fair amount to get the French outraged about artistic stuff. They gave the world Sade, after all. They have and maybe even invented the whole 'live and let live' attitude. I can't remember any huffing and puffing about art or book or movie stuff here at all. I mean, there was a fizz of controversy about the Larry Clark retrospective (see: above), but it passed away, and the show ended up setting all-time attendance records. From over here, the UK seems like one of the most easily outraged countries, prone to banning things or shutting controversial things down post-haste. I don't know if that's true. I did see the announcement about the 3DS, yes! I'm kind of quite excited. I read that the US price will $249, no? Anyway, I hope your day ahead is most splendid, man. ** The end for now. The post: Oh, I guess I sort of just emptied my camera onto the blog, basically. No big deal. It happens. Until tomorrow, that is. See you then.
