Bernard Welt presents ... Golden Boys #3 (of 9)

p.s. Hey. ** David Ehrenstein, Marvelous. I never saw that cable show, I don't think, but I've met Michel Auder a few times. Charming guy, and I like his work. Have you seen his 'A Coupla White Faggots Sitting Around Talking', which was kind of an answer film to 'My Dinner with Andre' and is basically Taylor Mead and Gary Indiana sitting around, yes, talking in their inimitable style? If not, it's as you would expect, and quite hilarious. ** Allesfliesst, I'll see if Gisele is interested in adapting that play. She's been commissioned to create some massive opera, so that might be perfect. Seriously. I'm pushing for the DVD. Shouldn't be a problem. They're just being slow. I'm meeting with Gisele today, and if I can get her to bring one along, you'll have it quickly. ** Empty Frame, Hey. I've slept with a lot of guys who light a stick of incense before the hoedown begins for whatever reason, and that's never changed my mind, I guess. Either that or I'm more Sting-like than I realize. My weekend was okay. Well, should you want to catch G.'s and my latest, you have these opportunities: 'TIHYWD' plays in Brest along with the world premiere of our new 'trailer' piece in mid-March; 'TIHYWD' plays in Paris in late-mid-April. Thanks for blabbing about us to that Calle person. And, yeah, David Markson rules. May the week reward us both. ** Marc Vallée, Hey. Oh, man, I'm so sorry about the liver disease. I'm really hoping it's easily treatable. Love and every finger on my hands crossed for you. The Thierry Schaffauser project does look really interesting. He looks familiar, presumably from my relentless hunts for monthly escorts re: my posts. Everyone, the superb photographer and d.l. Marc Vallée has a really interesting new work/ project called 'Male Sex Worker Project: Thierry Schaffauser', and you can sample it here, and please do. Fine work, man. My ultra-best to you. ** David, Yeah, the WalMart thing. And then the suicide bomber in the Moscow airport too. Scary stuff. ** MANCY, Thanks, man. How are you? Are you getting the school/ move/ work thing sorted? ** Alan, Oh, yeah, the ghost writer thing would have been very upfront and a big part of the formal play. I gave up on it because no publishers were interested in it. I wrote a long, basic outline of my past life as a proposal, and the only nibbles were from two publishers who wanted me to cut out everything except the 'alcoholic mother' stuff, and I was extremely uninterested in that idea. It wasn't a project that I felt like I could do financially without a commitment and an advance, and the idea just lost its interest quotient for me after a while. ** Sypha, Hey. Wow, Rebel Satori sounds really flexible. Usually, release dates need to set in stone at least six or eight months in advance for, I don't know, catalog/ promotion purposes, I guess? ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Oh, crap, on the almost no sleep. One bad night ruins me for ... days, I guess. You better today? So, I forget, how long are you thinking you'll be living down there? It's temporary-ish, isn't it? Are there visible and/or theoretical good friends to be made there? I've got your back, man, even if I wouldn't know how to recognize it in the real world yet. ** Killer Luka, I'll let you know when I see 'BS'. Emo wouldn't be a problem, obviously. It's just that, to me, his earlier films are simplistic and obvious and are full of Psychology 101-level insights and depths, and all the visual razzmatazz comes off as just wildly overblown and pretentious as a result, I guess. But I'll try to get myself as wide-eyed as possible when I see 'BS'. ** Steevee, Well, you sound better today. Working out is always good, right? I hear that anyway. Take headphones and an iPod or equivalent with you, obviously. ** Heliotrope, Hey, M! I miss scuzzy Venice. Well, actually, I especially miss pre-scuzzy or, well, borderline scuzzy Venice back when P.O.P., God's gift to people like me, was still operating. Creditors, yikes. I think my many creditors gave up on me after years of being thwarted by my screening of phone calls. I guess that wouldn't work with J's dad. Yeah, the De Stijl show was great. It also made me fall back in love with Piet Zwart, the 'typotect', if you know his work. If not, I was inspired to put together a post on him that'll be up here shortly. Dude, that seizure sounds eerie. Is it a thing where you should have yourself checked out? Yikes, I mean, fuck that shit. I saw Nico at the Whiskey, but it wasn't the Tim Hardin gig, an earlier show there, I think. I very well might have attended with you. Love, love, love, man. ** _Black_Acrylic, Lovely after party pictures. I like your scene. I hope that MRI was just standard issue, regular stuff. ABBA, excellent choice, of course. ABBA/ early Whitehouse mash-up? ** Chilly Jay Chill, Hi, Jeff. Well, it sounds like your play is in the same boat as 'Them'. Awesome luck to us both. Mm, if memory serves, the Schroeter films I've seen are 'Der Tod der Maria Malibran', 'Der Rosenkönig', and 'Regno di Napoli'. The first two are incredible, and the last one is interesting but not as amazing, to me. I've started working on a WS Day for the blog, and that's been fun, instructive. ** Nb, Yeah, the Trump is the only one that I don't wish had been built. I mourn the loss of all the others to one degree or another. Oh, well, I think you know that I think it's really good that you're taking over that team. You've got boss -- both in the leader sense and in the 1960's era superlative lingo sense -- written all over you, man. Scones, yes. Close your eyes while munching and think of me. I'm seriously missing that Podunk scone and doing an archaeological number on my memory bank to recall the taste, the texture, the physics. ** Ken Baumann, Good, you like 'Fable'. I hoped you might. Do you see at all why it came to my mind while first reading 'Solip'? Very different, of course, but ... something. Holy, shit, you bet, on the italics thing. What an amazing offer! Everyone, this is an alert that you do not want to miss. Among the many fascinating things on the honorable Ken Baumann's resume is his stewardship of the publishing venture Sator Press. And the first book from SP is Christopher Higgs' 'The Complete Works of Marvin K. Mooney', which is a really fantastic novel and was one of my very, very top books of last year. Well, Ken, in all his generosity and inquisitiveness, has an absolutely no lose, all win offer for you. In his words: 'For the next hundred print copies, maybe more, I'm offering this book at a pay-whatever price. You can offer $1 or $100. I'll send you this amazing book that I'm crazy about either way. And the amount you donate, minus the cost of the book*, is tax deductible. If you're curious: I break even at around $7 if you live in the States, $17 if you don't. So go ahead. Pick a number.' Seriously, you definitely want to take Ken up on this amazing offer, trust me. And you can do so right here. Dude, that's just killer of you! I haven't checked the news this morning, but if my dear buddy CB isn't nominated for an Oscar, I'll be completely shocked. Fucking great stuff. Thanks a billion, Ken. ** Jeff, Oh, I'm pretty sure right about Fourier. ** Michael_karo, Hi, mister. Wow, no, I didn't know about that blog. Very, very cool. I'll go fiddle with that extensively when my 'duties' here are complete for the day. Everyone, courtesy of multi-master Michael Karo, this is a site called Narrow Streets LA, and I'll let Michael tell you the rest: 'it might look a bit confusing at first, here's what you do: click on "explore the map". then click on one of the orange symbols on the map. then when the little window pops up, click on "view post". when the large picture appears, click on it and TA*DA! narrow european streets in los angeles. pretty cool.' Thanks, buddy! ** Bill, Hey. 'Love Tech'. Interesting name. I'll Google. It sounds pretty cool. I'd go. So, your piece will be seen amidst pumping dance music, I guess? Do spread any documentation around. Whatever that other, maybe similar work is, I'm sure your work's impeccable, singular signature will make that other an also-ran. ** Andrew, Back when that ridiculous B-LS angel tower was a distinct possibility, I was so completely in favor of it. It almost got built, and it would have been built had immense political pressure not been put on the financier to pull out. All the LA government and culture elite types were going out of their minds with horror. It was fantastic. I took a short look at the Willhelm show. I like the goofy setting stuff more than the clothes maybe. ** Statictick, Ha ha, nice image of you and your crossword puzzles. My mom did them all the time, always bought those books of them, always was telling us her crossword puzzle thing was a sign of her braininess. And she was pretty intelligent. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hey. Back when I was living full-time in LA, and when I was still boyfriend-less, there was this Death Metal boy who worked at my favorite health food store and had this made-up Nordic God-sounding name that I can't remember and on whom I had a lust crush. We were friendly when I was in the store because I could talk Death Metal with him, and he was always urging me to go to gigs that he was going to. When I was talking to him, it never seemed like he was flirting with me, but then, when I'd go home, I'd think back and realize that he was totally flirting with me. That happened a million times. I think he was flirting, but he was so repressed and disconnected from the language and signals of desire and flirting that he was non-negotiable, or at least to someone like me who isn't pushy with people who don't give me clear signs. I like to swim. I grew up with a swimming pool, and I love swimming in the ocean, but swimming in a public pool doesn't appeal to me at all, maybe 'cos of that heavy chlorine smell in public pools. I think we're in agreement on 'The Social Network'. I liked it, I just don't get the hullabaloo, and I also thought Reznor's score was the most interesting thing about it. Yeah, I think getting abs is a full time commitment unless you're born with them already jutting out, I guess. I think your advice to your friend with the gay boss was sage stuff. My day: Yury and I went out to buy a new TV. The one we wanted wasn't in stock at FNAC, which is the big electronics store here, so we tried Darty, which is the other big store, and the clerk talked us -- well, Yury was doing the talking and deciding -- into buying a less expensive TV that was just as good, he said. We brought it back here, and it didn't work at first, and then it sort of worked. We got expert Kiddiepunk to help us, and he got it to work, but Yury was vastly unsatisfied with everything about the TV. It seemed totally fine to me. So, for most of the day, Yury was complaining and complaining, and he insists we have to take it back and get a different TV, so I guess we will. He's very picky about his tech. That took up a lot of the day. My agent called, and we made a dinner date for tonight. Gisele called, and we have a meeting this afternoon about my text for the 'trailer' theater piece. That bomb went off in the Moscow airport, and we followed the updates and stuff on our new, 'bad' TV. It was my best friend and LA roommate Joel Westendorf's b'day, so I talked to him. He was originally going to go snowboarding yesterday to celebrate, but he's still getting over a cold, so he didn't. I think he just had dinner with friends instead. What else ... not much, I guess. Oh, well, that report was at least a start on the new, doing-more-things me. Tomorrow's will be better, I suspect. Your turn. ** Creative Massacre, Yeah, awesome if you can swing through Paris, of course! I'll show you the sights! Thanks for the new clip. As usual, I'll get to it when I finish this. Cool updates on the food blog! Everyone, hungry? Well, even if you aren't, you might just be once you pay a visit to Creative Massacre's newly updated food blog. Click that. Thanks, pal! ** L@rstonovich, Skullhums galore! Can't wait for the new one, and I'll catch up on what I've missed in the meantime. Everyone, new episodes of the sinuous and great Skullcrushing Hummingbird radio program/ feast hosted by our own L@rstonovich are ready to streamed into your life, and all you have to do is click. Man, lots of top drawer input into your head going on there. Cool. I'm dying to see 'True Grit'. It ain't here yet, of course. I had Jumbalaya made with seitan once, and it was slurp city. Oh, yeah, I think I've gone through that friend dilemma thing you mentioned. I don't know, what can you do? It never bothers me when I'm on the 'good friend' side of the equation. Strange. The Bomb Squad are God. Fucking total genius from outer space, those guys. Much love and respect in heavy return, man. ** Misanthrope, Ha ha, the tallest building is the only one I'm glad wasn't built. The Trump connection being my problem with it, I think. If I had to choose one of those that I most wish were built? I guess the 'Steel Cloud' one 'cos it's crazed. Hunh, seems like maybe I'll get to meet this Bourdin dude, if that's true about our mutuals. He should have me on his show. I can show him how to microwave vegetarian hot dogs. There's a trick to it. Mornings rule. You know I'm a morning guy. The quiet and aloneness and the growing light outside. Very inspiring, I think. Get on the good foot. ** Bollo, Hey! Jonathan, what's up? Missed you, man! Oh, shit, I'm so sorry to hear about your girlfriend's health issues and hospital stay and ... stressful, for sure. Hugs from France. Fingers mangled by crossing re: your funding request. Let me know. Oh, Jennifer Walshe, I've mean meaning and meaning to get something of hers. I like Maja Ratkje. So, what fun thing did you end up doing? Really nice to see you, my friend! ** Postitbreakup, Oh, no problem, J. I love your writing, and you're stuck with my regular encouragement to feed me more, I fear. 'La Noire', totally, right? It looks crazy good. ** Alexp336, Hi, Alex. Really, about the 3DS getting here first? Very cool. I'll start telling myself that I don't really need another handheld game system, and we'll see if that works. Oy on the man down at work. How are you at setting aside writing times in advance, say weekend time? I'm not good at that myself, but I don't have a full-time job unless this blog counts, ha ha. I think decaf coffee should have been banned before smoking in cafes and bars was banned. Long before. I hope you managed to wrestle Tuesday into submission by late afternoon at the latest. ** That's it for Tuesday. Your post is, obviously, the third installment in Mr. Welt's search for boys made of gold. May you apprise it and enjoy. See you tomorrow.
