Bottoms Up and Wrapping Presents...
So, right after the election I read in the local paper that someone had put up a “sign” sound of town that was advertising a new strip club called “Bottoms Up” that would open if the county decided to “go wet” and allow liquor sales. Well, I had assumed from the article that the sign was a homemade sign and it was probably already gone. Boy was I wrong! Turns out the “sign” is a billboard and it's full of awesome …
Just look at it! It's glorious! First, it's pink. All signs for strip clubs should be pink. Second, they made the word “Bottoms” possessive by putting an apostrophe in it. Third, they misspelled “Gentlemen.”
You just can't get any more awesome than that. Every time I see a sign or billboard around here that has misspelled words, I wonder why the company that makes the signs for people doesn't correct their customer's grammar and spelling.
A few years ago we had a guy running for city council who had big signs around town asking people to vote for him for “Harrison City Goverment.” And yes, he won anyway.

As you probably know, last week on “I'm With Stupid” we held a Radiothon for Ryno. If you missed it then shame on you then you might not know the star power that turned out for the cause. Even the greatest super model of all time, Cindy Crawford was here. And, I caught up with her at the airport when she got to town and talked to her for about 30 second about what motivated her to come and be apart of the radiothon...

Also, I discovered today that I can wrap presents while listening to my Rat Pack Christmas CD and still not have any holly jolly Christmas spirit at all.
And yes, the tree is on the floor. That's because every single year I put the tree up before I wrap the presents. And since the tree goes on the same table that I need to wrap the presents on, the tree has to get moved to the floor while I'm wrapping.

Clay prezzies baked & then glued onto clothespins as ornaments--a gift, along with the above quote, to my worship band at church. We had a rather semi-spontaneous gathering of cookies & cocoa & coffee & games this evening. I rock the Guesstures. Another favorite: Scattergories.

Clothespin Ornaments
I recently purchased an ornament for my mom at a local shop. After bringing it home, I realized, "Hey, the girls & I could make these!" Ours are much more juvenile, but the concept is the same: a clothespin base.
These were soooo fun to make! All you need are clay & clothespins. I bought two different sizes of 'pins at JoAnne's: a regular size & a smaller 1 1/2" size. I also gathered up whatever tool-ish things I could find to help us in our clay molding efforts.

(A word about clay: The girls & I have clay around to play with on occasion. I am not a clay expert. It is not my medium of speciality. I purchased this giant package of Sculpey III clay because it was on sale or I had a coupon or something. But, it's horrible to work with. Surprisingly my 6 year old was steadfast. But my 8 year old had many fits. Basically, it's really hard to work into a smooth consistency & it is very crumbly. Crumbs everywhere. Takes so long to knead into something you can work with. Although, because of its firmness, I do like the way it holds its shape when you are putting your pieces together. We've had other brands of clay that seem to work better for us. This is just my opinion & I'd love any tips or advice from clay experts out there!)

After creating our miniature pieces, we baked 'em in the oven, following the instructions. (About 15-25 minutes depending on the thickness.) While the pieces were baking, we decided to paint our clothespins. They can also be stained. Or left plain.
Once the clay pieces have cooled down, glue to clothespins with E6000.

Speaking of Advent...
Tia got my girls a Barbie Advent calendar & it has been QUITE fun! I even get all excited when they open the window to reveal a little Barbie prize every day. Smart bargain shopper that she is, I think Tia got it on clearance at the end of the holiday season last year. If I see any this year, I'm gonna snag 'em up for next year too. They are super fun & a great compromise to those chocolate ones. I'm not a big fan of kids + candy.
Poor Zoey went to school today, & an hour-n-a-half later Mr. WhiMSy love & I got a call from the school nurse that Zoey had gotten sick. She is home now. Pazely was sick this weekend. It must be all the new Nebraska germs.
I continue to unpack. But it's not so much like unwrapping Christmas presents like I thought it was gonna be. Thanks for all your comments & encouragment. Don't stop. (hee hee) You may not realize how much your comments mean to me, but I LOVE GETTING THEM!!! And when I see a lovely blog fan has left a lovely comment, my heart goes pitter-patter...
