p.s. Hey. Fyi, I have to be at a meeting re: some theater stuff mid-morning today that was set up at the very last minute, so I need to rush along today, and if I don't get through this before that, this post/p.s. might end up arriving quite late, and I apologize in advance for both for the rush and for the lag, if it happens. ** Frank Jaffe, Hey Frank! Thanks a lot for giving me a freebie. You're a good guy. No, I don't know this sybian thing, I don't think. I am barely coffeed up at the moment though. Hope the Tallahassee sojourn is very painless. ** Wolf, Hey. Hm, no, Jonathan S. hasn't ever mentioned the translation/text, but I see him so occasionally and usually when he's in performing mode so that might not mean anything. I'll ask him when I see him next. I don't know the subtleties of French politics well enough to speak to the Strauss-Kahn thing in depth, but I doubt his being out as the candidate will fuck the Socialists. You couldn't have a weaker opponent than Sarkozy if you tried. But, yeah, we'll see what happens. I sure hope it's not Hollande or Royale, that's for sure. ** David Ehrenstein, Lynne rules. Had a lovely day out with her yesterday too. * Michael Karo, Ha ha ha, hey, Michael! ** Sypha, LSD is an awesome drug that can rewrite your perceptions -- it did mine -- so it's hard not to end up lobbying on its behalf if you're a certain kind of guy, i.e. McKenna. But, yeah, it's only one route. Really glad you got writing done, James. Excellent news. Well, Hip Hop artists, unlike the Church, don't have one of the USA's two political parties in their back pocket. They're also artists and individuals who are speaking their own minds and not pretending to channel the voice of the Almighty in order to manipulate people to join their cult. There are many very good reasons why the homophobia of American organized religion is a whole more important to address and condemn. Anyway, people do care about worldwide homophobia. There was just this online campaign against the anti-gay laws in Uganda that seems to have had at least some effect, just for instance. ** Schoolboyerrors, Hey. Oh, it's on Crosby? Okay, my memory is the problem then. I had it situated elsewhere. Well, good news on that front then. Lynne Tillman told me yesterday that it's looking like St. Marks Bookshop is going to close down before too long, which is just the saddest news I can think of. ** Steevee, Hey. Yeah, good point, of course. Still, I mean Peter Sotos and Sade, to bring up the first examples that spring to mind, explore the extreme without that kind of empathy, and that lack is part of their work's power. But on TtC, yeah, as you said in one of your comments, the kind of isolationist, aggressive, manly talk that he uses is totally a trope of the the genre, and what he says in that regard is no more interesting than any other hate talk. The fact that he's doing the same sort of shit talking as half the other artists working in his area is a limitation or drawback, but I guess I'm going, okay, so that's that, and I'm concentrating on the particularities of his version, and there's a wildness and force and creative framing there that's impressive to me. He seems talented enough that he could do other, more offtrack things, and he's quite young, so I think I'm also giving him some leeway there, wondering what's next. Mostly I'm interested in the way he's playing and toying with the usual, I guess. I see 'Tree of Life' this afternoon, so I guess I'll give my take tomorrow. ** Andrew, Well, yeah, understood, but I also think the fear of ending up seeming like another artist who seems to own some particular turf that you want to work within can be dangerous. That old saying, i.e. one doesn't know one's own strengths is true. One really doesn't know what one is going to make until one makes it. I mean, I could have told myself that Sade or Burroughs or whoever owned the sex/violence axis and never tried, you know? ** Patrick deWitt, Hey, P. Good hero. ** Pisycaca, Hey, Montse. Yeah, it's sweet, no? They seem pretty nice and friendly so far. I'm happy. I'll get to Primavera one of these years, surely. Love to you. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey, Ben! ** Chris Cochrane, Hey. Yeah, my stuff and TtC's stuff makes for a weak comparison. I just have a tendency to initially fight for artists who try to do interesting work that also disturbs. But, like I said above, I don't find the anti- stuff interesting in and of itself. I'm into his style and energy and aesthetics. I'm actually heading off to the meeting with Ben and Serge in about an hour from now. I'll let you know. I'll send you my Skype name/ number via email. Saturday is fairly open for me, but we can figure out a time via the mail. ** Mark Gluth, What you said really made me want to get a coffee with you post-haste so we could talk our heads about this stuff. Internationality sucks sometimes. ** Alan, Hey. Sure, of course, yes, use my name however you think it would help, for sure. ** Dynomoose, Hey. Yeah, it's true, right? I bet the $1000 dollar an hour escorts have much more packed schedules than the cheapo ones. Weird world. And what you say about artists/the art market is totally the case, from what I know too. Nice about the powerful Persephone, ha ha. I like the you plus PTO combo more for their sake than for yours, I guess. Ha ha. ** Brendan, Good, cool, awesome about the post. Thank you, bud. Can't wait to see it for sure. ** Misanthrope, I'm so sorry, George. There's that sorry word again, but you know. I hope you're okay. We're here for you big time, man. Love and strength and everything else that's good to you, my dear friend. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hey. Oh, there's some idea out there that the world will end on May 21st. Some weirdo self-styled prophet says so, I guess. Yeah, Yury's just starting to work on the fashion line. He's in the very early stages. I know he would like to do a presentation as soon as possible, but I suspect he has at least months of getting things together and organizing and stuff ahead of him. Considering your woozy, edgy state yesterday, your friend was pushing it and is lucky, or so it seems. Thanks for the Cannes report, and too bad about the new Lady Gaga song. I haven't heard it, but I feel like I probably can without even hearing it. Sorry to be so rushed today. This meeting thing just came up. So, my day, really quick: Spent most of it with Lynne Tillman. I showed her where I live. I showed her the post about her on the blog. We went to the Centre Pompidou, but I forgot that it's closed on Tuesday, so we had a bite nearby there. I had an okay omelette. Then we decided to go see this huge sculpture by Anish Kapoor at the Grand Palais which I've heard is trippy, but we got there to find the GP is closed on Tuesday too. So we walked around an ended up in the Tuilleries where we had a coffee and blabbed then walked some more and then she went off and I came here. We were going to maybe meet up later, but the friend she's staying with made her dinner, so she did that instead. I worked and stuff and ate and slept. Wow, I just made that day, which wasn't a bad one at all, sound so dull by rushing through it. Sorry. Anyway, I'd better move on, but I'll be better tomorrow, and tell me about your today. ** Bill, Hey. Oh, I'm glad Nicholas is making the move to SF. I know he has really wanted to. I'm in a scramble too at the moment. High five. ** L@rstonovich, Dude, nice poem and show. Double duty. Although I'm going to need to study it in detail when I get back from meeting-ville. For now, thank you, budster. ** Okay, if I can proof this p.s. really fast, I'll make my meeting and you'll get this super early. I give you lights todays. Little ones. Lots of little lights. See you tomorrow.
