Last Tuesday my friend Anneke and I went to see Disney´s latest movie Pirates Of The Carribean 4: On Stranger Tides. I've been a big fan of the franchise, although part 3, At World's End, was a bit disappointing. So, now that Orlando Bloom isn't in the film anymore, what to expect? Obviously, this time it would all land on the shoulders of Johnny Depp, and I have to admit he was once again the star in his role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
The film has a good balance between adventure and humor, and unlike the previous one, this one isn't too long, without too many distracting side stories. There's one storyline: everybody (the British, the Spanish, and the pirates) is looking for the famous Fountain of Youth, which leads to a race against each other and the clock. While searching for the Fountain, Sparrow finds himself taken captured in London, meets Penelope Cruz and Captain Blackbeard, and gets attacked by angry mermaids.
All in all a great movie and a succesful reboot of the series. My only complaint is that the 3D effects are virtually non-existent, which makes the three euro's extra quite the rip-off. Other than that: great movie!
