p.s. Hey. Today the blog celebrates both the publication of a new art zine by d.l. Oscar B aka the artist O.B. De Alessi and the inauguration of a new line of zines masterminded by d.l. Kiddiepunk aka the majorly multi-talented Michael Salerno. Having scored a copy of 'Theme of Sadness', I can tell you that it's gorgeous and highly recommended. Enjoy, say stuff, etc. ** David Ehrenstein, It seems like she'd be a cool dude, and I'm glad to have that confirmed. ** Oscar B, Thanks, bud. I'm assuming you'll be knocking on my door with a potted plant in hand long before you see this. ** Chris Cochrane, I guess you probably won't see this since I guess you're in Holland already, but, just in case, no problem and you bet. Excited to get there, meet the new 'Thems', and add my two cents for sure. See you in a few. ** MANCY, Hey, man. Yeah, his performance was pretty incredible. Don't miss him if he comes your way. I haven't seen a listing for a local Deerhunter show, so either I missed them or they didn't swing through Paris, or I still have a chance up ahead. How's everything with you of late? ** Alan, Hey. Oh, that's really kind of you, man. A light sabre would really suit you, ha ha. I'm going to see if HP will send you a galley, and I'm pretty sure they will, but I'll give you heads up when I get an answer. ** Ken Baumann, Hi, K. As much as you would make the perfect Robocop for the Pitchfork and HTMLGIANT generation, I too think the reboot is a horrible idea, or would be if they don't let you both write and act out the screenplay, but then, as you say, grave robbing and corpse reanimation seems to be Hollywood's idea of a great idea for (of?) this generation. Spoken as someone who's seriously considering going to see 'Thor', mind you. What a world! ** Wolf, Yeah, good stuff, right? Hm, I think I read somewhere that they are finally making a 'Neuromancer' movie, but I'll bet you Ikeda isn't on board. There needs to be a really good William Gibson novel movie. 'Johnny Mnemonic' definitely wasn't it. Oh, gosh, animal, reincarnated ... that's kind of tough. I do really like giraffes, but do I want to be one? Do werewolves count? Damn, I think I'm taking the question too seriously because I can't think of the perfect animal receptacle. Tell me your choice and maybe that'll jog me. ** Schoolboyerrors, Hey. The good thing is that Ikeda tours and plays a fair amount, so you might well get a chance to either see him live again or see one of his installations. Other than doing a quickie visit and reading in Munich, I haven't gone to Germany since I moved over here, which is pretty strange, I guess, but I'm a pretty big fan of Best's 'Consumer Electronics' records, so I'm going to see if I can get to Dresden for that. Thanks for that tip. What are you working on right now? ** Bollo, Hey. Got the Grouper stuff. Gorgeous. That's been accompanying me. You're a real pip for giving me the nudge. What kind of notebook plans? Too early to say? ** _Black_Acrylic, Ikeda is very worth the investigation time. Wow, that new Yuck 'n' Yum is being a real slowpoke, but no problem on waiting as need be. Everyone, while we patiently wait for the new Yuck 'n' Yum issue, here's Yuck 'n Yum AGK promo shoot BEHIND THE SCENES! courtesy of one of the Y'n'Y honchos himself, Mr. _Black_Acrylic. Click that. Looks cool at a glance, and I'll do more later. Hey, what happened with that new apartment? I'm going to pick up that new issue of The Wire today, assuming the train station kiosk has it. It's my ordained Paris-Amsterdam/Utrecht-Paris plane/train distraction/ fodder. ** Steevee, Interesting what you say about 'Mods'. Yeah, I can see that. Is your computer feeling better? ** Heliotrope, Oh, great, great news about your rising health! Good, good, good. Yeah, I hear the Dodgers have been getting beaten up for a week straight. Gotta love them Dodgers. I'm hoping I'll have my set in stone LA visit dates in the new day or two. Can not wait. Lots of love to you and the missus! ** C.C., Wow, hey there, Stan! You're back! Very cool. So, hm, the last time you posted here you were in London preparing for a long stay and looking for an apartment. Now you're back in LA. So, what happened? Sunset and Hobart are close to my hood. Nice. Good news re: all the progress on your film and novel, obviously. My novel's finished, about to go into galleys, and will come out in November, so, yeah, that's done. I'm mostly back into making theater again at the moment. Great to see you, pal. I hope you can stick around. ** Colin, Hi, C. Oh, thanks bunches about 'Jerk/ Through Their Tears'. You're the first real person I know who's actually gotten it in their hands. I'm glad you like the photo sequence. Gisele's having a gallery exhibition of a selection of them here in Paris, opening on the 28th. Wish I could rematerialize you here for that. Growing up with 'Sar Trek' created such unrealistic expectations. ** Sypha, Excellent news that 'Grimoire' is finally in its final pre-pub stages. Is there a release date or season yet? I always liked the idea of Crass more than the music, but I honestly haven't listened to them in a very long time, and I could easily hear now what I didn't hear way back then. You want to recommend a good restarting point? ** Bill, Hey. The Ikeda performance I saw was amazing. The piece was 'Test Pattern'. He lives part time or even mostly in Paris, so maybe he'll do something while you're here. He also happens to be married to the woman who handles some of the foreign touring for Gisele's pieces, so he's around a lot. Really nice, shy, super interesting guy, obviously. It sounds like the Recollets is a done deal. Fantastic! And I think Bernard Welt is going to be here around then too. And I heard Paul P might be back at the Recollets this summer as well. Party! ** Chris (British), Yep, Ayn Rand is one giant load of shit for sure, for the reasons you say. Plus, she's just an awful writer to boot. Her prose is clunky and torturous. I called Shakespeare & Co., and they have that Kapuściński book in stock, magically enough, so hopefully I'll get to check it out for real quite soon. Excited. You must be starting the inking any minute, no? ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hi. Wow, that Drescher song is ... is ... fun. Fun is good enough. What is this new TV show of hers? A sitcom? If the laundry room isn't fixed today, I'll be washing my clothes in a bucket full of hot water and suds in my bathroom, I guess. Did I see 'Single White Female'? I can't remember. Hm. Whatever happened to Jennifer Jason Leigh? She isn't in movies that much these days, is she? Just last night I was casually sort of half-watching 'Jurassic Park 2' dubbed into French on TV and wondering whatever happened to Jeff Goldblum. He used to be in lots of stuff, and now I never see him or hear about him. I feel for you on the cleaning stuff. I hear you, man. At least it's done, for a while at least, and the world around you is better. Remember that. Just to add the the weirdness of my never having watched 'Facts of Life', I have never set foot in a Walmart, which is probably even weirder. Best Buy, yes, but never Walmart. I think that's just because there isn't one close to where I live in LA. That scene with Eyebrows in the cart with closed eyes was really nice. Again, it could be a pretty novel moment. I've been seeing posters for 'Game of Thrones' in Paris, and I just assumed it was either a movie or a video game. Hunh. Your day wasn't long at all. It was lustrous. My day: Well, a lot of interview editing and rewriting. The editor of The Paris Review specifically asked that I talk a lot about the ass and the asshole in my work, which is, I guess, both weird and understandable maybe. It was the only thing he requested in advance. Anyway, I got to the part where I talk about those things last night, and so I'm trying to elaborate, and I have all these complicated reasons for dwelling on those things, so it's kind of hard. Anyway, ... that. The editor guy from Love Magazine finally got in touch with me about the article about me that they said they want to run, and he asked if he could come over and interview me on the 27th, and I said that was fine. Then he said he was going to put the magazine's stylist in touch with me. Then I got an email from that stylist guy. He said there'd be a photographer and stylist coming over to shoot me on May 3rd, and I said fine. Then he asked me for my clothing sizes because they want to dress me up in some super fashionable suit. Then I wrote back explaining about my clothing and dye allergies and saying that wasn't going to be possible. Then he wrote back and told me that was a big problem, but he guessed that I could maybe wear one of my own suits. Then I wrote him back and said I haven't owned or worn a suit since I was a kid, and that I only have and wear things like t-shirts and jeans. Then I didn't hear from him again, and I think maybe my answer might have been an article killer, which is weird on the one hand because they should photograph me the way I am, but it's not weird on the other hand 'cos it's a style and fashion magazine. So, I don't know. Kiddiepunk and Oscar and I decided to make one of our dinnertime visits to Hard Rock Cafe, and so we did, and it was good, and I ate too much, and they were showing a lot of videos of rockist, kind of indie bands who were cool about three years ago like Eagles of Death Metal and Silversun Pickups and that sort of thing. Nothing great, although Oscar was very giddy when they played Ozzie's 'Crazy Train' video. After walking back here, checking my email, and watching a little of 'Jurassic Park 2' dubbed into French, I slept. So, Monday is a goner, and Tuesday has just begun, and how in the world did yours go? ** Schlix, Hi, Uli. See Ikeda live if you get a chance. You won't be sorry. I don't think I've done a post on Carsten Nicolai. I did one on Carsten Holler, but that's another story. I should though because he's interesting. Hm, I'll see if I can put that together. Thanks, man. ** Misanthrope, Did you know that speedo is the name of a particular company that makes a particular type of swimsuit and not technically the name of that type of swimsuit? I didn't until Yury told me that the other day. So, it's like kleenex and xerox and so on. I don't really get lazy, I procrastinate, which is different but has the same outcome. I'm too antsy inside to be lazy, I think. Laziness comes from, what, avoidance? Or is a body chemistry thing? Hm. ** I will leave you on your own with 'Theme of Sadness' now. Treat it right, and it will treat you right. See you tomorrow.
