This dress is an obvious attempt to overwhelm the sensibilities of the viewers of the show and to draw outrage and anger, but overall is a device to capture attention. It seems to have been successful to a certain extent. In a world where the TV is on, people are hooked with the Internet and texting all the same time, each media it trying desperately to grab the all too fickle attention span of the viewers.
