p.s. Hey. Free time machined concert for a friend and for you too today. ** Postitbreakup, New doctor sounds like a sharp move, and weaning yourself off of multi-medications is great news too. 100 penises ... I have a slight concern about drawing the Blogger police. I show penis here judiciously out of that very concern. So, I'm not sure, only for that reason, though. Let me think about it just for a bit. We had something of a breakthrough re: the theater piece yesterday, so, while there's still a lot to do, things feel brighter as of this morning. ** Paul Curran, It would be so awesome if Japan goes to the finals, wins. They might be my new favorites. I think the text thing got sorted out, or a working, not bad solution is in place for now. Thanks, man. ** 'Stoopid Slapped Puppies', Hey, Nick. Really nice story about your granddad. Yeah, Dogboy is a really great find, and he even stopped by, so, yeah, you did very good, man. Love. ** Bernard Welt, Hey, B! Awesome sounding class. I so wish there was a satellite hook up. Did I tell you I saw Rock Hudson once? At Tower Records on Sunset. He was already strangely thin but not yet unnerving looking. That guy was tall. Tallest actor I ever saw in the flesh by far. Enjoy the conference, of course, and I hope it's cooler or breezier down there at least. Yeah, any vague at least thoughts/plans to get yourself back to Paris proper? ** Nb, Hey. Okay, here's some stuff. Pretty obvious stuff, I think, and I recommended a bunch of it Frank Jaffe a couple of weeks ago. You're staying in Los Feliz, if memory serves. So, nearby, eating (Mexico City, on Hillhurst just north of Ambrose) and Alcove (again Hillhurst a bit north of Franklin), Skylight Books on Vermont and the strip of stores, cafes, etc. on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin. Silverlake/ Echo Park in general, centered loosely around Sunset Blvd. The Museum of Jurassic Technology. Graveline Tours (you're taken around in a converted hearse and shown the spots where famous people died). The Magic Castle, if you can get in somehow. Joshua Tree, a must, I think. Or the desert at least. It'll be hot, but it's incredible. I adore Disneyland, as you know. Amoeba Records, the greatest record store in the world, imho. Hiking: you can do nice hikes in Griffith Park, better ones in the beach/hills circa Malibu (Circle X Ranch is a favorite), and around Angeles Crest in the nearby part of the San Gabriel Mountains, the closer to Mt. Wilson the better. Pick up an LA Weekly as soon as you get there. You can pick them up free in a lot of places. Crucial re: knowing what's going on in the moment (music, art, readings, etc.). ... I'll think of more. Will you be online and around when you're out there? ** David Ehrenstein, Hey. I haven't read or heard an entirely positive review of 'Imperial Bedrooms' yet. I'm hoping to get it when I get back to Paris. Waif. Great the 'Boys' film got picked up for all kinds of reasons, seeing you therein being a big one, of course. ** Pilgarlic, 'French Hole' is a more pizzazzy title, but it won't work with the novel. 'The Marbled Swarm' is the name of a complex, manipulative manner of speaking invented by the narrator's father. The relationship to meat's marbling is in play as well. The narrator kind of half-learned how to employ the marbled swarm, and the novel is written in his flawed, watered down version of that manner of speaking. The novel is a weird cannibal mystery story on the surface, but it's really about his voice and its faulty relationship with his father's invention, and its real story takes place within the voice and the real mystery is therein, so that focus has kind of cemented the title, or has so far. I fear that makes little sense, but it will in the novel. Yeah, those McCarthy cannibals were spooky. ** Dooflow, You sold me on that Hungarian novel. I'm going to get it pronto. Thanks a lot for that. Oh, and ... Everyone, another map, courtesy of dooflow. ** Dogboy, Oh, hey! I'm so glad you came by. Your blog, your writing, your work are really amazing. I'm thrilled to have discovered them thanks to 'SLP'. It's a real boon and a gift. I'm sure a bunch of people from here, myse;f heavily included, will be reading your work regularly, but if you ever feeling like hanging out here, that would be very cool, an honor. Take care, excellent to make your acquaintance, and much respect to you. ** Stephen, Me too. I mean I hope I get there. If I do, I'll give you a shout first. Sure, of course, that would be very cool if Richardson want to interview me. The site looks very good, interesting. Thanks for that, S. ** Stan_cz, Hey. We're getting closer to there, thanks. Oh, your piece on being in LA looks really great. I can't read more than the first couple of sentences now, but I will asap. Everyone, d.l. Stan_cz recently moved to LA from Germany, and he has what looks like a terrific piece about that initial experience on his blog, which, yes, I recommend you read post-haste. ** Sypha, Hey, James. ** David, Hey. I saw 'Wassup Rockers'. I didn't much care for it myself, greatly preferring 'Paranoid Park''s version of voyeurism for some reason, but so it goes. ** Heliotrope, The last time I saw Kirk was not very long after he'd graduated from high school. Weird. You have a great party house. I'm sure you hear that far more often than you'd like. Did J. make a decision re: the job dilemma? Oh, I'm sure you can find enough stuff at Amoeba to use up that gift card. I so love how big and rangy and connected your family is. Really glad you'll be around more. ** Bill, Hey. Oh, those Svankmajer photos are just dandy. Get the idea quite clearly. Very cool. I had no idea he made sculptures. Thanks a lot. The only substance we're covered with at the end of every workday is slightly greasy skin sheen that comes with being swallowed by one semi-fake fog bank after another. ** Jax, Hey. Yeah, I can see the comparison with the radio play producer changes thing. Except ours has this heavy social element, and the power structure is less defined if still there. Anyway, I think we sussed out a decent solution. Things change every day though. I know there was at least one 'Dollhouse' fan here. I only saw a handful of episodes, but I found those few, at least, very disappointing. I don't like Eliza Dushku's acting much at all. It seems one-dimensional and 90% attitude to me, which is probably part of the problem. ** Dorna, Hey, Dorna! I'm so pleased to see you here, and with such an exquisite map story and set of thoughts. Beautiful, thank you so much. Yeah, Dogboy's a great find, and this place is like 'great find' central somehow. I'm just the bus driver. I'm as lucky as anyone else, you know? Love to you! ** Waiting For John, Greetings. Well, I can only hope John is a member of that art gang lovingly, ha ha, described in the news article. Death is the last thing you deserve, but 'death' might become you? Trippy. Everyone, this. X, me. ** _Black_Acrylic, Yeah, nice about Japan, USA, and Holland even though that risks an addiction setting in on my part, but that's my problem. I'll pass on your ... Everyone, here's _Black_Acrylic: 'If anyone's looking for a site with some decent football writing then I recommend Minus the Shooting. It's done by a team of renowned bloggers including Mark 'k-punk' Fisher and there's much insightful commentary, regularly updated.' ** Changeling, Hey. Oh, new writing by you on your blog, awesome. Can't wait to find the time, this afternoon, I think. Everyone, the amazing Changeling has new writing on his blog, and, as always, that's a key occasion that I highly recommend. Really sorry to hear you've been feeling ugh. Summer ugh is somehow always the worst. We had a mass story writing project going on here on the blog for a while that was going really well. It got stalled out, I don't know why. There was talk of it being revived, but I don't know what happened. I'm just an onlooker and future contributor on that project. If it does get revived, t'would be great if kicks in your junkiedom. Feel better as instantly as possible, okay? Oh, yeah, resend the email, I guess, if you don't mind. It definitely didn't arrive in my box. I checked. Strange. ** Steevee, I'm guessing the absence of mood swings make the weaning off worth it, yeah? Got the Devo, but I haven't clicked on it yet. ** Little foal, Hey. Nice about your guy's open arms. Oh, yeah, 'My Life' is great, no? A big favorite of mine. She's a very interesting writer for sure, I agree. I haven't read her most recent things. I need to do that. Pretty amazing that Michael Silverblatt transformed from that do-little guy into the guy who reads everything all the time. I've known him forever, and I guess I met him in the transitional phase. He read a lot back when I met him, but not everything. Lots of love coming right back at you, man. Catch. ** Syreearmwellion, Ha ha, you're asking the wrong guy your Oingo Boingo question. If I made of my least favorite bands in rock history, they'd be in the top five. Literally ten seconds of one of their songs, and I'm a ... well, banshee. They're my psychotic brother's favorite band. Or, rather, they're tied with Weird Al Yankovic. I've never even heard of that Billy Idol album. Was that during his ill-fated 'cyberpunk' phase? Yum re: the Replacements and Bambaata. Sure, the Svenonious post would be great, if you don't mind. Send it to me here: dcooperweb@ gmail.com. Thanks a ton! ** Alan, Hey. ** Billy Fangs, Wow, man, I haven't seen you in quite a spell. Awesome to see you! You good, writing, being, doing what exactly? Yeah, really nice to lay eyes or 'eyes' on you. Take care, man. ** Statictick. Cool, I'll keep one eye on my snail box. Thanks! I miss IFC. I miss everything. ** Justin, I've had two friends with Aspergers. Two of the coolest people I've known, if that helps. I wouldn't worry about the name. You just want to identify it so you can feel better, you know? I'm answering your You-x question, sorry, but he's a California boy. ** Chris, Hey. Oh, fucking great! I'm going to let that video pour over me this very day, so help me God. Thanks, thanks! Everyone, d.l. Chris aka the incredible musician/ artist Chris Cochrane, a revered solo artist, a vaunted collaborator with John Zorn, Zeena Parkins, Mike Patton, and a ton of other fellow artists, and both a former and very soon to be collaborator with yours truly, played a solo gig in NYC the other night, and here's a high quality video of part of his set. Very highly recommended. Great, Chris! Thank you so much! ** JW Veldhoen, It was your birthday yesterday? Did I get that right? Happy birthday, John! 34 is one of the coolest of all ages. It is, and the reason it is is inexplicable. Oh, it's up, it's real, it's readable! Everyone, the very mighty JW Veldhoen has a text called 'Perspectives, Or What is Hardcore?' newly up at the always crucial Transductions, and JW's well known genius is all the selling point you need, certainly. It's a must-read, and it's here and nowhere else (yet). Great, John! ** L@rstonovich, Hey to you, man. ** Slatted Light, Hey, D. Thanks a lot for your thoughts on the text dilemma. Well, the worst part of the dilemma was/is that it's actually too late in the game to rewrite the texts. We don't have the time to reconfigure that section from scratch, and doing so would mean having to change the other texts too, and the piece is too meticulously built to be able to fuck with it in a deep way. I think we sussed it without having to change the texts. Long story very short, the texts were written for Jonathan Schatz's character, who was a real figure at the time, but who is now just a configuration of Jonathan Capdevielle's imagination, and the texts were supposed to be voiced by 'him' -- me, actually, as I was doing his voice -- but now all the voices are being done by JC, and everything JS says and means and intends is part of a interplay within JC's insanity -- to put it simplistically -- and it's in service of his mental disorder, and is only an illustration of it, and there is no purity or interfering realness in the emotion anymore. Luckily, JC is brilliant, and maybe just maybe he's found a way to channel the emotion that puts a disruptive sadness, etc. into the collage he's voicing. I'm not entirely sure, but, as the piece can't be dismantled except in little details now, it's the best solution we can find. Complicated stuff, fascinating to finesse, but worrying. Anyway, thank you for lending your great brain to the problem. ** 蔡燕 , Blah blah blah. ** Schlix, I know Born Ruffians by name, but ... I can't remember if I've heard them. Everyone, anyone here know the band Born Ruffians and have any thoughts if so? ** I'm off to work now. Hope you enjoy the Siouxie gig. Her voice is one of the great wonders of the human singing voice realm for one thing. And there's so much more up there too. See you in the morning.
