But then perhaps I'm just familiar/ comfortable with rock labels, which are quite often pretty loose and end up swallowing quite a variety of bands/styles: New Wave, No Wave, Brit Pop, Grunge, Indie, Lo-fi, Doom, Hypnagogic -- oh, that Hypnagogic post, if you're interested, is here, and you'll see that the actual sound it's trying to identify is quite rangy. But I do really like the tight labels endemic to electronic music too. My novel proceeds to its hopeful conclusion in a very painfully slow and brain deadening but, I assume, natural way, and I guess I can't ask for more. I wish they'd fucking declare that fascist bullshit unconstitutional already. ** Kier, Hey. Wow oh wow, that set of thoughts on 'Period' is fascinating and a gift. I'll read them again more attentively when I get done here. I have this kind of annoying Lynch/Dylan thing about 'Period' where I don't want to potentially undo people's travels therein with my roadmap, but your take intersects with mine in a number of ways. Hm, the only thing I'll say is that reading the novel's trip too thoroughly through my autobiography might obscure a lot of facets of what's going on. Not that that stuff isn't there and important, but it's heavily interfered with by other fictional through-lines, and it's just a big one of a number of the intersecting pathways. I think the best way to take the novel apart is to start with the flat or rather technically flat surfaces -- the mirror, the internet, the video, the paper in Dagger's notebook, etc. You can see them as different kinds of mirrors, reflectors of the people using/looking into them and their 'backwards' worlds, and you can collect them together into a kind of disco ball and place that at the center of the novel and then shine the novel's instances of 'light' onto it, and something happens, and, not that anyone should ever take the time and effort to do all of that nonsense, but it's one way to dissect and unify the whole thing. If that sounds like gobbledigoop, sorry, ha ha. Anyway, I'm honored and thrilled by your very sharp thinking about the novel, and I'll pore over it and save it for my scrapbook. Novel work, went not so well at all, grr. It rained almost every daylit second. I paid my rent, late as usual. I met up with Gisele. She said there's a slight possibility that 'Kindertotenlieder', my favorite of Gisele's and my theater pieces, might have a gig in NYC next January, which would be great. We met with the publishing house (Disvoir) that's going to put out the book/CD of the Jerk radio play next March. They gave us an idea of what we could and couldn't do, and now we need to do it: record the play in English, design the book, etc. Their offices are really nice, all industrial designy. I wish I could live there. I walked home and got all wet in the process. I worked some more and started making some future blog days. Yury got home, went jogging, took a shower, and the shower nozzle broke off, and now I have to get the Recollets to fix it, and they can be really slow, and showering is probably going to be trial for a while. Yury talked me into buying a spring/summer coat, and so I'm going to meet him at the Galleries Lafayette after he gets off work and get one. Then maybe we'll go to a big opening event at the Palais de Tokyo, I'm not sure. I guess I probably checked Facebook for a minute or two, because I usually do. I think there was something sort of interesting on TV that Yury watched, but I didn't pay that much attention. I think I'll end there. Meh.
