Week in Review

Last week's "Week in Review" pictures are in my dead computer. They will sit there safely until the 'puter is repaired. It could take 3-4 weeks. (Whoa dude. That's intense.) I think I can manage. But, believe me, I will be having a welcome home party when it returns. Streamers, balloons, the works!!

This is my first Week-in-Review made completely of photos from my iPhone. Not the best but it'll do.

I'm slowly getting back into the crafty way of life & it feels so good!

This small town is growin' on me. And I can't wait to tell you about a cool opportunity that I may have coming my way in this lovely little town of mine!

Evita Nuh

Okay, this 11 year old girl from Indonesia is great. She's very much into fashion and photography. I am now addicted to her blog. I started reading what she wrote when she first started her blog, and you can tell that her English is improving. Either way, she's doing what she loves, and it's great. Although, I wonder how she gets all her clothes and accessories. Maybe vintage stores, hand-me-downs? Or maybe her family is well off. I probably should read her blog more to find out.

Book Laptop Case

This is pretty clever. Now you can hide your laptop in your bookcase. It's $80 bucks. Check it out at Twelve South.

New Stuff and Snow ...

First a little housekeeping.  If you look over to the right sidebar, which is actually the only sidebar on this blog, so I really didn't need to say "right," you will see a couple of new additions.  First, at the top, is a link to my Skype.  If you have Skype, or want to sign up for free, you can add me and we can chat sometime.  If you don't know what Skype is, then check it out.  Free computer to computer calls are pretty cool.

Next you will see a new link to Formspring.  That's a site where you can ask me anything you want, or tell me anything you want, anonymously.  So, you have your chance to get that burning question you've always wanted answered (well, maybe, I still reserve the right to ignore some questions).  You also finally have that chance to tell me just how much you hate my fucking guts anonymously.  How awesome is that?

And finally, if you look under "For a Good Time" you will see that I have added a link to Vinny Bond's new Blog Talk Radio show "Music on the Couch."

The show will debut on Monday, Feb 8th at 10 pm Eastern, 9 pm Central, 8 pm Mountain and 7 pm Pacific.  There, I did the time zone math for you cause I'm really thoughtful like that.

Also...

Honolulu: 5 pm Monday
Anchorage: 6 pm Monday
Rio de Janeiro: 1 am Tuesday
London:  3 am Tuesday
Madrid:  4 am Tuesday
Paris:  4 am Tuesday
Berlin: 4 am Tuesday
Prague:  4 am Tuesday
Jerusalem:  5 am Tuesday
Cape Town: 5 am Tuesday
Moscow:  6:00 am Tuesday
Baghdad: 6 am Tuesday
Kabul:  7:30 am Tuesday
New Deli:  8:30 am Tuesday
Bangkok:  10 am Tuesday
Tokyo:  12 noon  Tuesday
Sydney: 2 pm Tuesday

And, if you don't catch it live you suck you can always listen to the archives on Vinny's main BTR page at any time.  And, you'll be able to download the show on iTunes. So, you really don't have an excuse not to listen.

But, if you listen live, be sure to sing up for a BTR account (it's free you cheap bastards) so you can join us in the chat room!

In other news we got crushed with by a massive snowstorm over the weekend.  We got like 20 15 10 8 inches of snow.  Okay, I don't really know how much it was.  But, the radio said it was 10 inches.  And news people on local radio never lie about these things.

The good thing about it is that we didn't get the 2 inches of ice they were originally predicting.  We only got about 1/2 inch.  The rest of it was light, powdery snow.  And the sun came out on Sunday and temps soared to near 40.  So, it's melting fast.

Anyway, it was kinda fun...

Life Upon The Wicked Stage

After some discussion with the publisher, I submitted an article to the Theatre Vault website. If it is received well (or at all), it will likely be the first of several by various contributors. I've included it here because (1. I liked it), and (2. There's some truth in there.) If you have any thoughts in these directions, lemme know. I can always go for Part 2 ...

Many good things happened in Columbus community theatre in 2009. There is a breathtaking amount of talent out there. Often the only differences between professional and non-professional theatre are those nuances we tend to rationalize as “that’s just the way it is.”

Sorry, I don’t buy that. “Just the way it is” is an excuse for lack of imagination in one area or another. And so, with the thought of building up rather than tearing down, we point out some of the consistent problems community theatres choose not to address whenever possible.

In other words, here’s our first “this sucks” community theatre experiences for 2009.

I saw three musicals this year. In two of them I watched people lacking in muscle tone and rhythm while they stomped around a stage in an homage to the Frankenstein monster. Sorry, that’s not dancing. Embarrassing is what it is, and one of the reasons many people label community theatre as “amateur.”

Along the same line, dressing fat people in tight clothes does not make them look like dancers - it makes them look like fat people dressed in tight clothes.

The majority of shows I saw incorporated set changes that were more involved than the show they bridged. Please don’t do that. It takes time and nobody really cares.

I saw four plays this year that were written between a hundred and four hundred years ago. I suffered through a number of performers who had no idea what the meanings were behind the words they were speaking. Theatre managers, if you have any mercy for your audiences at all, give these people chloroform just before they perform. Better still, give it to us.

I saw one play this year where an episode of a television show had been performed as a stage play. The original script writers are now deceased. Rightly so.

I observed one community theatre that flatly turned down free publicity in the form of play reviews. This is sad on so many levels.

Goodbye Jan.

31 Jan 2010, Sunday.

ONE month has passed in the new year.

feels like it was just yesterday that we celebrated the New Year's Eve @ Vincent's..overlooking fireworks from all over Klang Valley.

31 days have gone by...so fast, so super fast.

i think each year moves by faster and faster, regardless of the commitments we have. i've been on holiday since last Dec, yet time still passes so fast to me. maybe i'm just a person who will somehow get myself busy with something...anything. hehe.

but in these 31 days, i won't say that it was not fruitful.

i spent more time at home, with my family.

i spent more time at Toni & Guy, to color, cut, etc. haha which means more LRT trips with baby to and from KL :)

i spent more time with my CG members. eat outs, outings, hang outs.

i spent more time sleeping, napping. which leaves my skin baby smooth. i'm serious..napping is the best facial treatment! wake up early, but nap :)

i spent more time blogging. *nyek-nyek* and i'm so happy about it :D

i spent more time seeing baby..not many "dates", but a lot of seeing each other due to Dance Ministry, Leaders Meeting, Prayer Meeting, CG, church services. see why it's awesome to be involved in each others' lives? :)

i spent more time working. more than ever. God is really blessing me with flexible, random jobs. jobs that blesses me so much with the ppl i work with, ppl i meet, experiences i get. these are the experiences u'll get only when ur young :)

and many, many more.... :)

baby was telling me the other day on how proud he is of me that i have achieved so much in such a short time during my holidays.

though i don't "feel" like i did, because i don't feel too hectic throughout the month. but in the little things that i do, the experiences mean a lot.

it's been a great month. hope it is for u as well :)

great start for the year!
now moving on to the Fab FEB :)
*muahs*
love, careen.
