Gone from Eldersburg - Quiznos Sub

My wife is making fun of me for posting this, because apparently this placed closed a while ago. But I just noticed it today. So, nyaaaaa!

Formerly located in the femininely named Princess Shopping Center, the Eldersburg Quiznos has closed. I suspect that there was way too much sub competition in the thriving metropolis of Eldersburg. After all, we have Jerry's in Freedom Village, Frank's Subs and Pizza in Londontowne Square, Subway in Wal-Mart, and Subway next to New Win Long. And I guess to a degree they were also competing with Panera Bread, and the various other fast-food restaurants in the area.

Now the Princess Shopping is devoid of 2 businesses. You'll recall that the Romeo's Italian Bistro closed a while back and it is still unoccupied. I blame Obama and Maryland for the continued economic troubles of this state. It's certainly not my fault.

For those of you wondering the answer to what should read as, "When will Glory Days Grill in Eldersburg, Maryland open?", the answer is a definite 'I have no idea'. The sign has been on the building for at least a year, perhaps two. Are they waiting for more hungry people to show up? I have no idea.

Grilled Cheese & Company - Almost Done

I swung by Johnsville Station (while singing Smokin' in the Boys' Room) this morning. I noticed that the sign for the Grilled Cheese & Company was up, thus signifying that the restaurant will be open soon. It's up on the marquee, too (and the sign for The Scoop is now gone). Haven't seen an opening date anywhere. There was plenty of stuff all over the floor, so it doesn't seem like it's opening this week. But soon. Unless, or course, if the O'Malley administration can find some more ways to tax small businesses and drive them out of the state.

Coming to Eldersburg: Grilled Cheese and Company

I don't usually make it over to the Johnsville Station much, except for the annual soccer parties at Ledo's for the teams I coach. I got wind that the former Scoops Ice Cream store was going to be occupied by The Grilled Cheese and Company, whose website uses the clever www.ilovegrilledcheese.com as their website.

I've never heard of this place, but I looked at the menu and apparently they sell grilled cheese sandwiches. And these grilled cheese sandwhiches cost $5 and up. I think that's going to be a hard sell. Why would you want to spend that much money for a cheese sandwich slopped with butter and fried? Sure it's good, but $5??? That'd be like selling donuts for $3 each. The Grilled Cheese and Company also has other make and models that sell for upwards of $8. I'm sure I'll try it once to satisfy my curiosity.

And when you think of Johnsville Station, do you start humming "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" by Brownsville Station? You will now!

Restaurant Fund Raiser for ORMS @ Qdoba

If you're from Eldersburg, you know that ORMS is Oklahoma Road Middle School, which I'm sure you'll agree is a really stupid name for a school. Why not just call it Oklahoma Middle School? Is the road really that necessary?

Anyway, come out to Qdoba in Eldersburg on Tuesday March 29th from 5pm until 8pm. Qdoba will donate 15% of the proceeds to the ORMS PTA.

Gone From Eldersburg: Thai Classic

I never quite understood this restaurant in the Oklahoma Shopping Center on Liberty Road. You know the one - next to McDonald's? I've lived in Eldersburg since 1999 and the Thai Classic rarely ever had any cars there, yet it remained in business for nearly 11 years. I am convinced that the store was a front for a money laundering operation. Or perhaps it was the headquarters for the Eldersburg mafia, though others contend that the Eldersburg mafia is run out of the Freedom Optimist Hall.



I only visited Thai Classic once and I was not impressed. My wife got a boat of sushi and it was just average. I got Pad Thai (doesn't everyone?). Eh....

Well, now it's closed. So if you're looking for a good location to open a restaurant....or a place to headquarter your very own mafia, contact the owners of the Oklahoma Shopping Center!

Coming to Eldersburg - Glory Days Grill!

As you read last week, I heard a rumor that Red, Hot, and Blue was coming to Eldersburg. I was mistaken. It's actually a Glory Days Grill. My bad! Thanks for the correction, DB!

Coming to Eldersburg - Red, Hot, and Blue?

I heard a rumor that the nice building next to the Wal-Mart in Eldersburg will soon be occupied by the chain restaurant Red, Hot, and Blue.

The building was constructed what seems like several years ago and has sat vacant ever since. I heard a previous rumor that the debt-struggling Mikhaeljohn's (sp?) was going to move in after they moved out of the plaza over by Arby's. That turned out to not be true - or the rumor was true, but unfulfilled.

Anyway, after that rumor had quieted, I later heard that Goodwill would be moving into the building, which seemed absolutely preposterous on many points. Why does Eldersburg need a Goodwill? Why would someone rent out perfectly good office\restaurant space to Goodwill?

Fortunately, the rumor proved to be partially untrue. Goodwill is moving to Eldersbug (totally ridiculous), but is going into a soon-to-be-built building next to Wal-Mart and behind the rumored building.

So while it's nice to know that we're getting a good BBQ place (or should I say another - Hi, Smokey's!), I am still shaking my head as to the new Goodwill store. Aren't there hundreds of acres of abandoned properties in Randallstown? Does the average family in Eldersburg that makes over $100,000 need a Goodwill? Is Goodwill truly serving the needs of their clients by opening a store in Eldersburg? This just seems to be a terribly misguided decision.
