135 heads

p.s. Hey. So, I got on this 'heads' thing the other day, and there you go. ** Postitbreakup, Hey. Christophe Honore's 'Ma Mere' is based on Georges Bataille's novel 'Ma Mere', so that's where it comes from. I'm having a coffee with 'Ma Mere's' director this very evening, and I'll pass along your respects. I'm probably one of those people who by your estimation isn't geared to give good dieting advice, so I'm leaving you and Steevee to discuss that, and it's interesting. Sorry about the rage. Rage sucks. ** Bill, Hi. Leaud seems to be love or hate proposition, but I love his fussy performances, which can make the even slightest Truffaut film enjoyable, so, yeah, I recommend seeing more of his work. Plus, a bunch of the films he's in are just great. That video from Oslo is fantastic! What a terrific piece/performance! What is an 'Airplane Controller'? Everyone, artist and d.l. Bill (Hsu), a star of the current 'Weaklings' show at Five Years in London, is on a European tour, and a video of his recent performance in Oslo has just gone online, and I've embedded it at the bottom of the p.s. for your delectation. Click it and see/watch. ** Ken Luc Blot, Hey, greetings, welcome, and thank you! Do you have any other favorites whom I might address, blog-wise? Maybe I can keep the yums coming. Take care. ** Posing at the Louvre, Hey! Oh, man, sure, yes, I would love to have a post of your pictures here. That would be great! If you get home and still feel like doing that, please do. Thanks! Keep enjoying everything if you can. ** Chris Cochrane, Hi, Chris. No news. Serge wasn't at the meeting, it turns out. Like I said, I think after the festival's funding is sorted out at the end of the month, we'll start getting a clearer picture. Yeah, I hope your nail chills out in time for the gig tonight. Break a leg, merde, and etc. Wish I could see it. ** Katalyze, Hey, pal. Even though my LA pad isn't all that close to the beach, I do really miss living near the ocean. The vibe, the smell, the light and particular breezes, ... On the translating thing, it depends. About 90% of the time, I'm not consulted by the translators and only know if the translations are okay when people pass along their opinions. In France, they've always consulted with me about the tricky details and things, which is great. Otherwise, it's very rare. My work is very hard to translate. The language play and layering and the very careful use of rhythm and word sounds gets killed always, and I worry that translators will even bother making the great effort to find equivalents. I see what gets lost or changed necessarily in French, and it does make me wonder how different the books become in other countries. I guess I mostly try not think about it, ha ha, 'cos it's entirely out of my control. ** Kiddiepunk, Thanks, bud. Let's see each other today. I'll call you when I'm through with this. ** Killer Luka, Oh, sorry, yeah, I somehow leapt to the idea that your mom had joined the call for de-naked male-ing of your work. Never mind. I just saw Julie Delpy in a movie the other day. I can't remember which one. It was on TV. It made me think, Whatever happened to her? I guess I've just lost track. I think I told you that when I was in NYC for the 'Them' shows, I stayed right above the Evolution store. ** MANCY, Road trip, nice. I love road trips. I miss road trips. I miss having a valid drivers license. I hate my procrastinating on getting it renewed. Anyway, nice. About your trip. Less nice about the moving hassles. But then it'll be over. You're going to do something for the Ken/Leidner project? Fantastic! Be sure to let me know when it's up. That's exciting! ** Steevee, I'm glad you and Postit are able to confab about the dieting thing. I don't think I've seen 'The Birth of Love'. I will. I love 'Irma Vep'. It's still my favorite Assayas film by far. ** Hyrule Dungeon, Hey, man! Good to see you! My pleasure. I'm sort of the opposite: I know a lot more about European cinema than I do about the American wing, which is weird, I guess. You definitely should visit me in Paris. I agree. I'll be in NYC next in mid-November for the book launch stuff. The Herzog 'Nosferatu' is really terrific, I think. ** A NON, Hi! Post-grad ... in what department or area of studies? Fine art, or ... ? Kind of a boring or useless question, but who are the artists you really like or who are influential on your work? Don't feel any need to answer; I'm just interested in your practice. I have guesses at why and how I'm able to do the blog. As far as the daily post launch/p.s., I think I kind of see it as my job, albeit nonpaying, or something like that maybe. I have no idea how the people who work in, say, the supermarket I shop at here, can just be there being hospitable every day, and I guess maybe I tap into whatever internal resource one uses to be dutiful even when you're not in the mood. Mostly, I enjoy doing this, but, yeah, there are days when I have to try to psych myself up first, and it's kind of a struggle. As far as making the posts, which are probably a lot more time consuming to construct than they look -- most of the posts take a whole afternoon and/or full evening and sometimes more than a day to put together -- it's a great way to learn things, or to learn about things and people I knew slightly or superficially in much more depth. So, there's a great interest in the discoveries and offshoots you come across while building the posts. I don't know. Those are guesses. Thanks for asking me about that. ** Colin, No, I've never seen the entirety of 'Out 1'. I'm not sure if the whole thing is on DVD in France. Maybe not? Sans subtitles, that would be a very tough viewing, but maybe worth it. The 'Suicide' review was wonderful. I was very into every word. Terrific piece, man. I still haven't gotten my copy of 'A Fast Life' in the mail now that you mention it. Hm, grr. ** Chilly Jay Chill, Ha ha, no, 'Porcile' is not as good as trailer, imho. But, hey, Leaud and Clementi in the same film! That's good enough. Yeah, that's true about Bolan and Banhart, isn't it? I never thought of that, and yet it seems so obvious once realized. Curious. Fantastic about the Cortazar! Thanks so much, Jeff! Are you feeling noticeably any better yet? ** David Ehrenstein, Thanks, D. I do remember reading about that incident with Leaud and the landlady now that you mention it. I wonder if that's partly why you don't see or hear as much about him here as one might imagine. Thanks for the link! Everyone, courtesy of David E., here's a clip of Jean-Pierre Leaud in Philippe Garrel's 'La Naissance de l'amour'. ** Sypha, Hey, James. Thanks for de-quieting. It's your birthday? Dude, happy! Everyone, it's the mighty Sypha's birthday today! Mm, yes, I do remember about that girl you knew in college, or I think so. Weren't you having problems reconnecting with her for a while? Cool about the typewriter. That was super nice of you, and, obviously, very cool that it's going to occasion a real world get together with her. Why in the world do you think you come off creepy? You're so not creepy. In any case, enjoy your birthday hugely, and let me know how the meeting goes. ** Tosh, Hi, Tosh. I think cool is very good word for Leaud, yes. ** Misanthrope, The real world would be so great if you could just edit all the sex out of it. Kidding, sort of. No, kidding, for sure. What am I saying?! It's so easy to be a hotshot when you're driving a car. Fuck that anorexic motherfucker. ** Schoolboyerrors, My pleasure, thank you, D. Oh, yes, I do know about Club Silencio because, as you can imagine, it's big news over here. I read an interview about it with Lynch the other day, but I just tried to find and link it, and I couldn't. Yeah, he designed the entire club, top to bottom. It's going to be a real toughie to get into, at least for a while, I fear. But I'm majorly game to crash it. Everyone, have you heard/read that there's a new nightclub opening in Paris in mere days that is designed and co-owned by David Lynch? Well, there is. It's called Club Silencio, and it's in the Montmartre district. Here are pix of some of the furniture he has designed for the club, and here's a little squib of an article about it. If I can get in there, a blog post will result, count on it. ** Slatted light, Hi, David. Yep, Leaud, yep. Oh, no problem about the rescheduling. Just let me know when you're ready, and I will look forward to it. In the meantime, feel a lot better, pal. ** Right. I guess I've already introduced the heads. One of those things whose gathering and construction fulfill some strange interest of mine. Be with them. See you tomorrow.

Interstices AP is an audiovisual piece created by Bill Hsu and performed with the Airplane Controller. The video shows the performance at NIME 2011 (conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression), which was held in Oslo from Mai 30 to June 1st
