p.s. Hey. D.l. Toniok is your host for the next 24 hours, and, in the spirit of his post, I'll say little more other than please spend your blog time today solving and articulating within his ear (or rather eye) shot, thank you, and, to you, Toniok, I bow in gratitude. ** Dandysweets, Hey. My advice just echoes everyone else's here: go for it. Anything that puts a spirit of exploring and adventuring into your writing is a giant plus as far as I'm concerned, and people have already mentioned great examples of writers who've worked wonders in a second tongue. ** Allesfliesst, You are definitely the mad scientist type. With a dash of mad hatter too. That website is nice, and the institute sounds remarkably interesting. I was going to ask you what post-fordism is, but I can look it up myself, can't I? And so I will. ** Oliver, Hey, Oliver! Yeah, t'would be great, and I'll give the word when the decision is made. Oh, you sent me something, and I've just dipped in, but I'm really liking it a whole lot, and can I ask you some questions about it? Would that be kosher? ** David Ehrenstein, Yeah, I think the 'Jerk' gig(s) would be in Tel Aviv. The US media's fear mongering about the Muslim Brotherhood is so fucking typical and depressing. That Koch conference protest was nice to see, even at that size, and kind of a pleasant surprise. ** Pilgarlic, Hi, man. Good to see you. The maze will be transgressive, yeah, and it's definitely related to spooky houses, but it will be more cerebral and disquieting than in-your-face, I guess. The premise upon entering the maze is that you're looking for some teenagers who are ostensibly trapped in the hotel by some evil, murderous force. The 'trailer' piece, which will precede the maze piece by about eight months or a year, sets up the premise/ scenario. The original release version of 'Donnie Darko' is really terrific, I think. The 'director's cut' version which was released later is kind of a huge drag. I think in that case the director did not know best. How's it going with you, man? ** Empty Frame, Oh, very cool about the official self-employment set up. So, you're going to be one of those guys whose wallets are always full of receipts and look like dead birds. I don't know about web-hosts. I guess I should. I'll pass your query along. Everyone, here's Empty Frame. Please listen up and respond if you can: 'I got round to snapping up some domain names,in order that I can build a website to showcase my stuff, so if anyone knows of a good, reliable web-host any info would be greatly appreciated, people.' ** Bill, That boy's ad was one of the more confusing, ominous ones I've found. I still really like Koons' work from the early 80s. After that, hit or miss and increasingly miss for me. Excellent about the club/gig having gone well. Did anybody shoot any event footage where your piece might be glimpsed? ** Alan, Yeah, I haven't seen 'After', but Frank Jaffe sent me a link to it, so I'm probably going to watch it today. Very curious. ** Math, Maybe slave horses eat people if they're ordered to. Can horses be kinky, I wonder? Wolf probably knows. Those vaporizers are cool. I've think I've seen one in action. Actually, I think there's a cafe/ smoking den kind of joint here in Paris around Bastille that has them as its lure. And those high powered hand drying things, yeah. They have those in some fancy restaurants here. I used one last week. Intense. Good call on the crazy phone guy. That's a total San Francisco story for some reason. Or it seems really SF to me. Anyway, what a colorful, good start to your Franciscan phase. Oh, Lonely Christopher, et. al. are actually reading tomorrow night (Moe's) and Thursday (City Lights). Kitchell's moving there too? Maybe SF is the new black. ** Killer Luka, Sure, no problem, babe. ** Misanthrope, Multi-vitamins, sure, but there are immune system boosting homeopathic things too that you ought to try. Yury will have suggestions as he's very into that stuff, and I'll ask him. Well, yeah, about religion in government, but I think the 'scary Muslim Brotherhood' takeover idea is just a total US and Israel constructed scare tactic. The MB following is quite small in Egypt, and Egypt's economy is heavily dependent on tourism, and everybody there knows that, and logic says they're not going to set up a government that alienates the 'West'. Hopefully, they'll get a government that's far less of a US/Israel puppet regime, but who knows. ** Wolf, I saw a dog yesterday, and I realized that in the very rare cases where I see dogs, they're almost always dogs tethered to the kind of aging punk rock homeless/druggie guys and gals who seem to hang around outside the Recollets because the free medical truck parks out front every day. And they're always fairly giant dogs. Being the Francophile I am, I of course see the lack of dogs in Paris as people not wanting to leave poor dogs cooped up in their tiny, expensive Paris apartments all day while they're at work. Yeah, 'I Apologize' is in English. My voice performs all the texts. The only piece by us that's only in French is our one unpopular piece, 'Un Belle Enfant Blonde'. ** Steevee, I quite like the new Destroyer album. What a strange, refreshing turn. That Bejar is really something. I agree with Bernard: that was a terrific story about that woman. ** JoeM, Oh, right, I didn't even think about that, duh. I mean that your job might be in jeopardy because the Cameron cuts. Is it likely that the Liberal Democrats will leave the coalition? I can't really follow the situation in detail over here, but I got the feeling the LD's were total sell-outs far more interested in preserving their new power than being principled. ** Steven Trull, If you want your mornings to be ordered, do a blog. Or I guess I mean do one like I do this one. A leisurely porn-watching morning sounds so nice. Well, depending on the porn. I wish you could zap me over there too. Well, without the electric shock associated with the word zap, of course. I wish I was an app. Sometimes, I mean. Now, anyway. ** Zack, Hi. My Monday was kind of uneventful but okay. Oh, Yury might have some ideas about herbal remedies for anxiety, etc., and/or for added energy. He's pretty versed in that stuff. I'll ask him. Let me know how it goes with the one you got, yeah, please. Yeah, if you got some good editing done in one day, that's plenty. I don't know about you, but I sometimes find it hard to switch quickly from editing mode to writing mode. And that wasn't boring to read at all, man. Au contaire. ** Sypha, You should be in charge of Grove, I agree. That new novel you started sounds mightily intriguing. Flat and pornographic is a good combo, as far as I'm concerned, for one thing. Let me/us know how it goes, obviously. ** Nb, Oh, I hear good things about Fort Green. I think I have several friends who are hold up there and uncomplaining. Yury is really strict and fastidious about his eating and diet, and it's extremely rare that a restaurant can meet his requirements. And he also has this problem with the fact that French cooks almost never wear gloves when they make food. They do it naked handed, and that bothers him too. Yury's very ... particular, let's say, ha ha. I don't think I can wait that long to try the Mexican place, but, if it's all they say, I'll lead you there. When are you coming again? Spring, right? Do you have a somewhat precise time in mind? You probably already told me, and I'm just spacing out, sorry. Why todddddd says his name is Mark or vice versa is one of those questions that will just have to haunt us unto our deaths, I'm afraid. ** Bernard Welt, Hi, Bernard. ** Colin, Hi, Colin. Oh, me too, about that ambiguity. I always imagine that the ideal audience for my slave posts are poets. Some of the entries are so close to odd, moving poems. And the English misuse is really if accidentally inspired sometimes. Oh, yeah, Rosemarie Troeckel, a very interesting artist. Will your review be online? If so, can you link me up? ** Andrew, Thanks about the slaves. I thought so. There was or maybe still is a drag queen named Carrie Nation. In LA, I think. Back in the early 00's, at least. Totally, about Japan, Tokyo. I'm desperate to get there somehow. There used to be this totally amazing Japanophile blog/site focused heavily on the 'insane' and most perverse Japanese stuff called Bizarre Japan that I used to borrow from for the blog all the time, but it was a Blogger blog, and it eventually got discovered and shut down due its extreme content, and it was never reborn. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hi. My haircuts take a long time because Yury hasn't cut hair professionally in a long time, ever since he switched to being a 'colorist', so he's a combination of rusty and a perfectionist, and you can see the problem there, I'm sure. I saw a dog yesterday. It was big, mean, barking dog, so it wasn't such a pleasure. What happened to you with your Reds is what happened to us with our TV. What kind of music does the barista's band play? He's a guitarist, right? Oh, wow, Valentines Day is coming up. I guess I must be turning into a French guy (who doesn't speak French) not to have remembered that. That's kind of eerie. Ha ha, about those frightened of ice people. Wait, so were they right? Is your part of Texas like what the North Pole used to be like before the globe warmed? I like the word icicle. I like the way it looks and the way it sounds. Except there was a kind of horrible, briefly popular band back in the '80s called The Icicle ... something, and that association is the only problem with the word for me. My day: Not much, I'm afraid. I downloaded the new Destroyer album and listened to that. I decided to use my downtime to make future blog posts, and I made three in one day, which might be a record. I bought cigarettes and wanted to buy the new issue of The Wire, but they didn't have it at the train station kiosk, and I wanted to buy an egg salad sandwich, but Monop was sold out of them. So, I bought an apple tart. It wasn't bad at all. It was really cold outside. - 2 to -3 degrees. I had to put wool socks on over my organic cotton socks. Gisele asked me to start rehearsing the 'trailer' text with Jonathan Capdevielle, who I think I already said is doing the voices for that piece, so he's coming over later this afternoon, and I have to decide what kind of voices I want him to use. It's a weird text, so that might be hard-ish. My agent texted me to say there's something 'important' that we need to talk about today, so I guess I'll call him later. The Recollets had promised us long-suffering tenants that the terrible internet here would finally be new and fast by the end of January, but now it's February 1st, and it's still crappy. Yury went to some fashionista party in the evening hosted by a friend of his who's a fashion world cool guy who writes for Elle Magazine and other places, and apparently it was fun and full of fashionable people and famous models and stuff. I watched the season premiere of my French TV show addiction 'Top Chef', and it was okay. Mm, that's about it. Today, we'll see. How was yours? ** Creative Massacre, I've heard of Paoli Peaks, strangely. I hope you get to go. Yeah, the Eurostar thing from London to Paris is pretty easy, and you arrive right by where I live. I could meet you. Maybe Paris would be a good photo op for the band? Hm, I don't know. ** Bollo, New Richard Tuttle stuff? Interesting. I'd like to hear about that. Angry? Tuttle being offensive?! Interesting. I wonder why. Well, you're already on the nailing of the week thanks to those planned new bills pieces. I need to figure out a way to nail my half of the week and fast. ** With that, I leave you and Toniok alone to do what you will do, and please do whatever that is. In the (kind of) morning my time tomorrow, I will see you (again).
