p.s. Hey. Earlyish tomorrow morning I fly to Oslo -- where, according to a weather check I did a few minutes ago, it's -14 degrees C and snowing, holy shit -- for the theater performances and my reading, so there won't be a full-fledged p.s. tomorrow, just a hello and an intro to the post. I'll catch up with comments on Friday. I'll supposedly have internet access where I'm staying, so the blog should run fairly normally while I'm in Oslo, although the p.s.es might be more hurried, depending on my duties/busyness there. I'll be back in Paris on Sunday, so everything will be as usual around here from then on. Today is cleaning/ exile day at the Recollets, and they're also going to be finally/ purportedly repairing/ upgrading the hellish internet connection here, meaning possible interruptions in service, so this might reach you at a weirdly late time, I'm not sure. ** David Ehrenstein, Thank you, David. Yes, the 'Streetcar' @ Comedie Francais thing is a bit of an experiment in opening up their programming. A successful one in a general sense, as I understand it. I quite like Lee Breuer/ Mabou Mines, so I would go check it out if my French were a little better. ** Alexp336, Hey there! I did miss you, in fact. Very glad you liked Lonely Christopher's book, obviously. Very cool, thanks. Congrats on turning 30. As I always say, I think one's 30s and 40s are the best. Excellent young yet older combo period. Things have been a bit up and down for me, as a backwards blog peruse will show, but I'm okay. I was just reading about the 3DS launch this morning. 17 new games, cool, although none of them seemed truly exciting at a glance. Still weighing that purchase. Glad the Paris trip is still in the works. Hope the trip aligns with me being here. I'll be in and out until early April. Let me know your schedule. Really good to see you back! ** James Greer, Jim! Great stuff on Tarr/ Tark. Thank you for the email, man. Yeah, the visa thing sucks, and, yeah, it ... sucks. That dialog between you and God was very precious as well, don't you know. As for the rest, I'll write you. Would be so awesome if you can get over here. ** Bernard Welt, Thank you for reminding me that men have penises today. Or that they did at one time, at least. If it's possible, I somehow think you're right and Gus is right at the same time. That feels possible somehow. Choosing the Gus text to be the main post text was a tricky decision, obviously, but I thought his name/paean might help grease the post's wheels for people who would otherwise open the blog yesterday, go, 'Oh Christ, yet another person I've never heard of', and scroll straight to the p.s. ** Jax, Hey. Oh, yeah, I think there are surely a decent wad of cool people in Alaska. Schools are almost always outposts, right? Sweat rash, hm, no, I don't know. Everyone, our pal Jax has a nagging sweat rash. Does anyone of you have any ideas about how to salve or even get rid of such a thing? Advice would be very cool. Thanks! I've heard of that film, not seen it. I'l look or it, more for Widmark than for Monroe. I like him better. ** Pilgarlic, The betterness of your finger is music to my ears. I type with one finger. I'm fast though. Oh, very cool about your review. Yeah, send it. Is there a link so the gang could read it too? ** Polter, Hey. I wrote you back just a few minutes ago. Hopefully, I'll get to meet you very soon. The snow and cold there are making me nervous. I never bought new shoes. Yikes. ** Postitbreakup, Well, I'm a 'live in the moment' kind of guy. Oh, the crowd post. Yeah, it's a bit film-like. Probably more visual art-like in terms of decisions made though. Or both, I guess. The best way to get it, if you want to get into the form of it, is to just follow it from image to image, top to bottom, briefly noting what seems to connect each to its predecessor and the succeeding image, and then moving on. It's the flow and sweep and the different shifts and connections in the flow and the kind of weird rhythm they create in the movement of the eye -- smooth, bumpy, veering, blah blah -- and in the imaginative debris created by the shifts and associations that interests me about them. That's a poor explanation that may make no sense. It's like sliding your eyes down a weird hill full of whatever the content of the post is concentrated on. I don't know. Thanks, J. ** Jon Reiss, Hi, Jon. A week of pie sounds like no problem at all. Boysenberry and Black Bottom are my favorite. Pecan is pretty great. Can these articles be seen online when they're ready? Want to. Oh, cool, about the piece of your novel. I'll be all over that later. Everyone, the fine writer and d.l. Jon Reiss has had a 'flashback' from his new, as yet unpublished novel posted online. I really think you want to read it, and, here, let me help you out. Look forward to that. I'm up and down, but I'm around and basically okay. My novel? It officially comes out in the States on November 1st, which I guess means it'll be out in October sometime. Take care, bud. ** Wolf, Hey. Cool about the post, and about Marc's buy. Ka-ching, the blog strikes again. Yeah, you kind of got to the heart of my own crowd liking explanation with yours. Oh, sure, Yury likes green tea chocolate. He would love to eat air only, but he does break down in the face of chocolate and given a slight push. Thus, should you generously wish to send him some of that gtc, he would sparkle a little more. You're nice, Wolf. Sorry, pal, but you just are. ** JoeM, Yeah, that's so true about that solidifying happening in most or all forms. Strange, or maybe not. I don't know. Instinct, inherent need for conformity? Hm. Oh, what an excellent idea about drafting 'WfJ' into novel form, yes. That's very good to hear. And thanks a lot for the alert on his post! Everyone, the superb d.l. Memoirs of a Heroinhead aka Shane aka Waiting for John, etc . has an excellent new post on his blog about and celebrating the equally superb d.l. and writer Tony O'Neill. Do go check it out, of course, duh. Very best to you, Joe. ** Thomas Moronic, You survived the pizza, did you? Cannibal show plus Hard Rock Cafe sounds like heaven to me. I have to squeeze in a haircut from Yury today, but I'll try to get that out of the way first. Sounds like a major plan to me. ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Hey. Obviously, I encourage your investigation of that particular body of cinema you mentioned. I think you'll really get into it, knowing you as I do. And, well, as for Bresson, what can I say? Yeah, super great stuff on the 'CCA'. I actually spent some hours yesterday starting to put together a post on it and on interactive fiction gaming in general. Really a find for me and for what I'm up to and experimenting with at the moment, man. Can't thank you enough. ** Steevee, French fries will definitely do their dirty work. As my mom used to say, 'How about a nice stick of celery instead?' Ha ha, no, thank you. ** Kiddiepunk, Ha ha, not five seconds before I typed 'Kiddiepunk', Sonia called to say, ha ha, no internet repair today after all. I bet you got one of those calls too. Such a surprise! Talk to and see you a bit later, obviously. ** Ken Baumann, I got your email! Dude, awesome isn't even the beginning! Major hugs and congrats and ... you name it! Back to work already? Wow, it does fly. Sorry for the delay in my 'Solip' finishing. Visa thing zapped me. Soon. Oh, offbeat, cool Paris stuff ... Maybe I'll email you the suggestions. There are so many, and I'm under the exile gun. Yeah, I'll email you a list, if that's okay. Man, again, whoo-hoo, and lots of love to you and A! ** Bill, Hey. Oh, I know about that crypt. I didn't realize it was in Rome. Oh, definitely, on that one, if we go. Thanks! No, I don't know that Hijikata. Sounds well worth it, yeah. Okay, awesome, thanks again, Bill! ** Chris Cochrane, Looks like 2011 is going to leave 1968 in the dust. Far back in the dust. Oh, that's cool about the guy, the bass player. Someone who knows your work so intimately sounds great. That's nice. I mean, hopefully you can just end up doing all the gigs yourself, but, yeah, cool if necessary. I woke up to an avalanche of 'Them' emails today. Holy shit! I'll start opening them later. Take care, man. ** Sypha, Well, deleting his FB account adds to his interesting factor, I guess. But, yeah. That neurologist you saw does sound crap. ** Creative Massacre, Well, at least you tried to get away from FB. I haven't even tried. So, respect to you, and welcome back. Ha ha, that receipt. Better than a word verification coincidence even. Everyone, receipt. That is all. Click. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hi, man. Yeah, I've been to Rome twice, Milan twice, Venice once, and Lugano once. So, I've seen bits and pieces of Italy before. It really does sound like that surgeon of yours was having a bad day. I really don't think you warranted that door slam. Interesting, kind of dramatic little story though. I'm not used to you being treated rudely. It's very nice news that you saw your guy. Yeah, that sounds ... nice, yeah. Very nice. I've never seen 'Gossip Girl' so I don't know why it's a bad addiction. I'm sure there are much worse ones. If you were addicted to, I don't know, that Charlie Sheen sitcom, I might be worried. Although if you secretly are, I'm sure it would be for interesting reasons. My days, rushed too due to impending exile: Went to the Centre Pompidou with Kiddiepunk, Thomas Moronic, and his friend. There's a Michel Gondry show up that's pretty fun. He built all these different movie sets and stuff, and organized them in this giant room in kind of a maze-like structure thing, and anyone can make their own movies in the exhibition using the sets, and there were a bunch of people, from little kid age to adult, making movies while we were there, so it was raucous and kind of a lot of fun. Gisele's already in Norway, but we worked on the first issue of the 'Last Spring' fanzine a lot via email. I did some blog stuff. I made some notes on some fiction I might try writing. I did some prep stuff for my trip, and I have a bunch more to do today. Last evening, Kiddiepunk, Thomas, his friend, Oscar, and I went to the opening of a show by my friend Emmelene Landon at Galerie Oef. It's a show of her portrait paintings, and there's one of me and Yury that we sat for a few years ago. The show was real good. I ran into my friend Laurence Viallet there -- she's a translator who runs the great French indie press Desordres -- and it seems that she's been chosen to translate 'The Marbled Swarm', so we talked about that, and it's good because she'll work closely with me on the translation, and this book really needs to be carefully translated. After the opening, we tried to eat at Hard Rock Cafe 'cos it's right by the gallery, but they had a 50 minute wait, so we bailed, and they all went to eat pizza, and I just wanted a dessert, so I went home. Uh, I forget what else, and my time is short, so I'll leave it there. How was the middle of your week, my friend? ** Misanthrope, Well, to look on the bright side, the smoking will help you with the dieting. If you quit smoking now, you'd probably get heftier like 90% of quitting smokers do. One thing at a time and all that. ** Alan, Yeah, great response to your novel piece, right? I was very happy to see that, naturally. Glad you liked the Van Sant piece. ** Schlix, Hi, Uli. Thank you a lot for the kind words, man. Yeah, fuck them totally and thoroughly! Interesting about the crowds thing. I know what you mean. Strange power. ** Armando, Hi. I hope your birthday was a pleasure. I'm playing 'Epic Mickey'. I like adventure/ strategy games. I like being in the world and wandering around and solving puzzles and thinking about the spaces I'm in and stuff. I'm not into the fighting stuff or games that are about stealth and killing and survival so much, except for games like 'Resident Evil' or something which have the best of both worlds. Yeah, I've been to Scotland twice. Once to Edinburgh to do a reading, and once to Glasgow for a theater performance. That's all so far. Why do you ask? Have you been there? ** Jeff, Hey. I hear you about the job and the dilemma, yeah. I've avoided regular job employment all my life even when it was a stupid thing to do. But, yeah, seems like you might as well call your brother and at least see if the job is still on offer, right? I'm sorry about all that, man. I didn't play the game yesterday. I think I'll tackle him again today, although it might have to wait until I get back from Oslo. I'l let you know, ha ha. ** Okay, you belong to Bernard and to his antique boys today. Enjoy. Like I said, I'll just say a quick hi and stuff in the morning, and I'll be talkative and all that again come Friday. Later.
