Galerie Dennis Cooper presents ... Steven Purtill

----

Arm

Today the galerie is very pleased to showcase the work of the artist Steven Putrill, also known around these parts as d.l. MANCY. In addition to his work as a visual artist, Steven is the mastermind and artistic force behind two amazing, very eye-pleasing blogs, VISIT ATROCITY and LIGHT SOCKET, where you can find more of his photographs and altered visual images in a setting more conducive than this blog's plain white wall. I won't preface the small show of Steven's work today with a lot of glowing adjectives, although I have quite a number of them in mind, because I don't think his images need any interference to cast their spells. But please do pass along your thoughts and questions and appreciations to Steven in the comments arena today, both because the art itself warrants the attention and to show support for one of the incredibly talented members of the local gang.

p.s. Hey. Please give it up for Steven Purtill! Thank you. ** Nerstes, Hey. Oh, posting part of my porn script. Hm. Well, I haven't even looked at it in a couple of years, so I would need to read it over and see if it or part of it could function on its own, but I'll do that when I finish my novel, which will be very soon. If so, okay, I'll post a piece of it. Thanks for wanting to see it. You should make your porn for sure, if you can. Conventional lines are okay. That's fucked up about all the shrinks and failing meds and stuff. I'm sorry. I hope the experts can help you get yourself righted. Hang in there, man. It's important. ** Chris Cochrane, Hey, C. Yeah, between Ish's comment and yours, it seems pretty settled. I'll start looking into flights and all that stuff. So awesome. I wonder who we need to bribe to get Rico onboard. I can write a poem about them. Ish can give them bruises. You can play at their wedding or children's birthday party or something, The other dancers can ... well, provide all sorts of perks, I imagine. New live Jefferson Airplane recordings? Mega-yum. I'm going to find out about that right away. I need those. I kind of liked two songs on that last Massive Attack. I can't remember which ones, and, yeah, even so, they were kind of shadows. ** FreeFox, Hey. Another interested party. Well, like I said to N, I'll see if it holds up as text and maybe share some when I've gotten this novel out of my life. Porn is almost never great enough, but there are really interesting and hot porns out there. For me, some of the earlier Cadinots, some of the Mans Best stuff from the late 80s and early 90s, the Falcon shorts from the 70s and early 80s, and odd things here and there. Maybe nothing quite as potentially exciting as that back and forth you had with that guy, though. I haven't seen the Steppenwolf film. Want to. It has one of my gods, Pierre Clementi, in it. Hear it's pretty dated. No, I don't speak a syllable of German. Because I used to speak Dutch with a moderate fluency, I can understand little bits of German. When you can't go backwards or forwards? Mm, sideways? Crawl deeper inside? ** David Ehrenstein, Glad you like Sanda stuff, obviously. A close friend of Jonathan Capdevielle is one of the main stars of the new Garrel film along with Louis Garrel. I've been hearing little bits about the shooting. Sounds very interesting. 'Secret Agent Man', sure. My favorite TV theme song used to be 'Green Acres'. I don't know if it still is. ** Statictick, Those weren't your nipples? They had your vibe. Oh, well. See you in a couple. ** Pilgarlic, Yeah, it's just the financing, i.e. finding someone who has enough dough to take a fling. With the internet, you don't need a proper producer or distribution or anything. Get it made, and it will go viral. That's my guess. That kid from your school is super-interesting. Well, you shouldn't have too much problem writing about him since you just did and very colorfully/well. ** Sypha, Really interesting. I've got that 'contemplation of foulness' thing ready to be googled at the soonest opportunity. ** L@rstonovich, Dave Davies! Holy shit! You can die now, but please don't. Billy Oceanographer, ha ha, nice. That's a no lose name, man. ** JW Veldhoen, Well, yes. ** David, No, I haven't. ** James Greer, Jimbo! Oh, next year, well, that's better than, you know, nothing. Not going to make it LA for Xmas, Thought I might, but the money and schedule are too tight. Early February is the firm plan. Got LHotB stuff to do then. Oh, I love your emails, except for that 'no Europe tour' one, of course, sniffle, but hitting Reply is just a bitch for some reason of late. Glad you understand. Maybe I'll Skype you out of the blue one these near days. I'd love to catch up. ** Trees, How nice that you love Ms. Sanda. Me too. Excellent. Wow, Nightmare Sex Tape is looking really good so far. Poem (will read later), Robert Hood, 18 year-old prostitute, Steven Trull ... what more could any website need? Everyone, the mighty Trees has a couple of hot tips for you, and I'll let him tell you about them: 'I finally kickstarted the Nightmare Sex Tape blog, the first 'official' post of which just went up. Check it out. There's a poem of mine, along with some other little tidbits of what I'm thinking about. Oh, and I got some photos back from a shoot I did a couple of weeks ago. The guy actually did a pretty decent job for a hobbyist, tho I wouldn't have chosen to post some of the images he did. Anyway, if you or anyone else wants to see me naked in some weird industrial basement spaces, check it out.' Oh, I need to get Dodie's new chapbook. I'll check her blog for ordering info. Yeah, I'll be in your parts in early February. Coolness. ** Colin, Hey. Those Bertolucci films are both fantastic. You won't be sorry. December 20th, no problem at all. I just wanted to write the deadline down in black and white. I'm pretty good with deadlines. Thanks, C. ** Michael_karo, Greetings, Michael. Sure, no prob. Everyone, please hear out the multi-multi-talented artist and d.l. michael_karo: 'readers here might be interested to hear that director richard day is raising funds for a sequel the the film 'girls will be girls'. there is a kickstart page for it HERE.' I am now forever your bro. That's a lot of responsibility, young man. ** Steevee, 'FNoaD' is supposedly ready to be screened and released as a DVD now, but something seems to be holding it up. Not sure about 'Un Femme Douce'. Well, that would be fucking heaven if New Yorker actually puts out 'TD,P'. Not holding my breath. ** Syreearmwellion, Okay, yeah, sure, send me the pdfs, your poem or snarky blurb, artworks, whatever you want, and I'll assemble the post. It would be my pleasure. No, agonizingly, I did not see the GbV reunion tour, and that has shot to the top of my life's greatest regrets list. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hey. Really glad you made it through the sickness and are feeling better! I want to see 'The Kids are Allright'. It opened and closed here while I was in NYC, so it'll be a DVD watch, I guess. A bunny in the clouds sounds nice, but maybe it wasn't worth your bleeding feet. That sounds like a tension headache to me. I also get this one that starts between my eyes and then zooms down into my shoulders. I hope that's gone by now. Sleep usually erases those things. My days(s): Well, I'll just tell you the highlights of the three days because, as usual, I've mostly been reclusing and working on my novel. Novel: I'm finishing the 6th chapter. It'll be done in maybe another hour. Then I start the final chapter, which I'm sure I've mentioned is still pretty rough, so I'm hoping my progress doesn't slow way down. Mm, I don't think I can tell you what's going on in the novel at the moment because I've reached the spoilers. Uh, the novel is about to travel back in time. I guess I can tell you that, even though that isn't much. Yury wanted to go see this show at the Fondation Pierre Berge of art made by David Hockney on the iPhone and iPad, so we did that. It was kind of interesting. The art looked kind of like his paintings from the 60s but more kind of expressionist. Yet another Hard Rock Cafe trip got cancelled. Maybe tonight. I'll believe it when I see it. Gisele and I had a meeting about the maze piece with the architect who's designing it at a cafe near Pere Lachaise. We figured out a bunch of stuff, like that it's going to start out like you're walking through hotel hallways and then things will get weird -- blocked off areas, collapsed ceilings, and stuff -- and you'll have to go through a weird room and then the maze will get really confusing after that. I started investigating the buche de Noel possibilities for this year. I found two that I want, so I think I'll buy them both. I'm going to do my annual buche de Noel post soon, so you'll see them. I started getting excited about the Harry Potter movie, which is opening tomorrow. The Recollets has finally agreed to do a major overhaul of their internet system because it's gotten so awful in the last six weeks that it can take 15 minutes just to open an email. Really, it's like bad dial-up internet from the late 90s. Anyway, they start repairing it today, supposedly, and it's going to take two weeks to finish upgrading the system. Otherwise, I think I've just been smoking and eating and showering and sleeping and stuff. But today is a new day. How was yours? ** Ishmael, Ish! You want me to hug you like I hug my girlfriends again?! So greedy, ha ha. I think I'll see Ben on Thursday 'cos that's the night I'm seeing Miguel's piece. Like I said to Chris, I'll get on the flights and stuff. Awesome! Do transfer 'Head' to somewhere where I can see it, please? And, yeah, send me that link to the rough cut. I won't post it. You can count on me. No, thank God, I don't do Thanksgiving over here. I don't even know what day it is. Wait, it's always on a Thursday? Thanks a million, Ish! ** Postitbreakup, Hey, J. Well, it seems to me that you should write about the neediness and your experiences and all of that stuff. As a novel or story with a fictionalized you, or as a memoir kind of thing, or whatever form feels right. Seems like it would be both interesting and useful to you, and it certainly would be a powerful piece. That's what I would do. You wrote really well about it in the comment, so you obviously have the means to write about it in a more formal way. ** Tender Prey, Hi, Marc. 3 pm today sounds good. Wait, 3 pm your time or mine? Isn't there an hour time difference? Anyway, I'll get your Skype name from the mail, send you mine in a few minutes, put yours in my system, log on to Skype at 3 pm and call you unless you tell me otherwise. Great! ** Misanthrope, Well, if you objectify guys without self-incrimination then why not women? It's just different, err, strokes. Good news on the work stuff. Phew. I don't know, there have been Biebz forever, right? Teen idols. It's a tradition. And the AMAS are the most bullshitty awards, so it kind of makes sense. I guess it doesn't bother me. It'll all come out in the wash. I guess I mind less reading about him everywhere than reading about the Kardashians or what's-her-bull from 'Jersey Shore'. 24/7 Palin stuff makes me want to kill, but I guess it's the same phenomenon, and those future President polls don't mean shit. I don't know. Yeah, it's all grotesque. Move to France. The vast majority of people here are still sane and civilized, and so is the media, believe it or not. ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Sir. Oh, you'll make it, man. Come on. I mean, I moved to Paris on a whim or whatever, and look what happened to me. If it sucks, you go back to England. And it won't. At least not for a while. And I'll talk you through it, ha ha. Oh, 'Warm', that old thing. Yeah, that was more like a real narrative movie with hardcore porn scenes in it. My actual porn scripts keep the boner-killing narrative stuff to a minimum. Gracias! ** Okay, once again, give your attention to the works of Mr. Steven Purtill, please. I'll go back to work. See you tomorrow.
