p.s. Hey. I'm back in Paris and pretty zonked by jet lag this morning, but that's to be expected, I guess. Anyway, that's kind of a forewarning re: my p.s.ing abilities today. At the risk of horn tooting, I'll alert you to two things. First, while I was in NYC, the writer and d.l. Alec Niedenthal conducted an interview/ conversation with writer Blake Butler and myself that has been posted at HTMLGIANT, and you can read it if you're interested in doing so here. Secondly, there's a smart, thoughtful review of the recent 'Jerk' performances on the BOMB Magazine site, and it can be accessed here. All right, I'll do my bleary best to catch up with the last two days worth of comments now. ** Tuesday's: Elisa, Hey. Welcome and thank you so much! Sure, I can put you in touch with Jonathan. How can I do that? Can you give me an email address? I can pass it on to him or send you his contact information. He's in Vancouver doing right now the 'Jerk' performances there, but I think he finishes and comes back to Paris tomorrow. Let me know how you want to proceed, and thanks much again. ** Stan_cz, So I'm guessing you're setting up house in your new apartment? Give me a heads up on how everything's been going. ** Jose, Hey. Yeah, I got your email, and thank you a lot on all accounts, man! I'll write to you as soon as my brain is back to working properly. Glad the school's swamp is a cool one. Curious to hear specifics about that when the time's right on your end. ** Mark Gluth, Thank you, man. ** David Ehrenstein, Then I guess I'm a gentleman after all, ha ha. Yeah, lots of news reports about all the rain LA is getting. Is it really newsworthy? ** Alan, Hey. Was there supposed to be a link to that Haiti article you recommended? I'm interested to read it. ** Chris (British), That 'Ranga' clip was very curious, thanks. Odd roughed up L-Pop haircuts on the non-Ranga boys. That is interesting about your partner's transition into reading transgressive lit from her work re: child abuse. What was the nature of that work? Well, I'm unsurprisingly all for your concentrating on the writing that you want to do. Very cool. I'm pretty tired in the brain over here, unfortunately, but jet lag is one of my eternal nemeses. ** Bacteriaburger, Hey, man. Yeah, totally, about that Morrissey/ Diana stuff. Yikes. You good? What's new? ** Kier, Yeah, you know I'm not all that sold on 'Salo' myself. I guess you're in Oslo now. How were Sunn0)))? I get my turn with them in a couple of weeks, but I think I told you that already. I'm going to give the jet lag two nights to start behaving itself, and, if it doesn't, Alan's kind gift will be my spirit guide. Oh, I read further down and you are indeed in Oslo. In fact, by now, you and Oslo are virtually old hat. In a good way, I mean. Wow, my brain really is fogged. ** Bollo, I guess the blonds extinction thing was a false alarm. Very happy about that. Sure, just let me know if you need the recommendation thing and, if so, how I should do it. Excuse my ill-lit words/mind. ** Misanthrope, But it's kind of in the nature of national holidays to end up being things in name only or whatever, isn't it? Who apart from those expected/ required to make official pronouncements actually thinks about Lincoln or Washington or the veterans or a reborn Christ on their big days? Actually, I shouldn't try to think about something like this with a low wattage brain. Never mind. ** Christopher/ Mark, I sure am curious to see 'ASM' and find out where I end up sitting. Ian Falconer! I had the good fortune to meet him a few times back then. I was going to ask you what became of him, but then I did a google search instead, and, well, he's doing quite well for himself, and I seem to be out of the loop. ** JW Veldhoen, People did read and respectfully debate that shit quite a bit once upon a time, yes. ** Justin, No word from Jonathan yet on Bjork's attire. I was watching the Golden Globe red carpet thing, and they were still crabbing about that swan dress. I think of it as the only really interesting outfit that anyone has ever worn to the Oscars that I can remember at least. Re: 'Hoarders': You should see my desk. I walked in the door yesterday with freshened eyes, and I was shocked by the piles of crap. If I wasn't so sleepy ... ** Adjoun, Ooh, nice collages. Everyone, Adjoun's 'Cut Up Teenage', if you will. ** Wednesday's: David Ehrenstein, Oh, nice and envy on the Scorcese event. Your 'Tea for 2(010)' FaBlog post was most informative and interesting and very well done. Thanks and kudos! ** Tonyoneill, Hey, T. The Runaways saga never ends. Post lawyer vetted-mss. stuff, I'm guessing? Hope it's nailed by now. Thanks re: the SiH thing. Oh, I've softened up on Primal Scream in most ways, although I have to admit that, the irksomeness aside, I found them more interesting when I thought they were doing this whole faux, postmodern thing than now that I'm taking them more at face value, but that's just different strokes for different folks stuff anyway. ** Bill, Thanks, Bill. Your own jet lag bout isn't too far in your future now, right? ** The Dreadful Flying Glove, Sir. Oh, I see about the youtube versus google video versions. Shit. Should I insert the google link into the post? I should, shouldn't I? (Sorry, I'm very hazed). For now ... Everyone, important update/ correction re: yesterday's post from its host with the most The Dreadful Flying Glove: 'Here's the thing - as I'd originally decided to sin by omission, there were at least two different edits of ('Twice Upon a Time') released, one with considerably bluer extemporised dialogue. The YouTube edit appears to be this version, which is rather embarrassing. The version uploaded at Google Video is the 'clean' version, which I personally prefer and which I also understand was writer/director John Korty's vision of the project.' In any case, I appreciate your very fine work and efforts and help, my friend. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey, man. ** Stan_cz, Hey. Me, I was ultra-impressed with 'Avatar' visually, and that was plenty for me, but the story line and dialogue and some of the acting and stuff, not so much. Still, it is one very impressive thing, no doubt about it. ** Chris (British), Anything that brings us back to Bill Murray is great with me. Wish I hadn't missed 'Zombieland', but the DVD must be weeks away. The flight got me here, so I guess that qualifies as good, right? ** Oscar B, My neighbor once more! Yep, my body is here, as far as I can tell, ha ha. Let's meet up for a coffee (and lots of it) a little later, yeah? Can't wait to see you! Call me if I don't call you first. ** Steevee, Hope you hear back about the assignments. What are they? Any of them particularly interesting for you? ** Heliotrope, Oh, man, my heart and my heartfelt hopes go out to Kaya and you. Lots and lots of love as well. ** Creative Massacre, I'm so sorry to hear that, my friend. Yeah, heartbreak is just fucking awful. There are a lot of sources of terrible emotional pain out there in the world of other people, but that one is as complicated and hard to think your way beyond as it gets. Don't feel bad about talking about it. One of the few things you can do to get past the pain is to try to talk it out of you. I wish you a lot strength and something new and important in your life that will help drive you free of the hurt. That advanced bakery class probably isn't enough to distract you in and of itself, but it does sound pretty fucking cool, and I'm way into seeing what amazing things you come up with. Love to you, pal. ** Chris, I made it back for all intents and purposes, yeah. Haven't read 'Imperial' yet, but Vollman's stuff is usually a big winner. ** Qqq, Hm, so you are spam, right? You sure seem like spam. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Oh, you're still sick?! Shit, I'm very sorry to hear that, obviously. Yeah, I heard about IFC picking up 'Enter the Void'. That's super good news. 22 hours isn't too bad. A couple of taxing but doable days with one motel stopover by car. Uh, my days ... I'm going to be very lucky to remember much at the moment, so here's a vague sketch or something. Tuesday I don't remember precisely. Hung out pleasurably with Jesse and checked out more of the town and smoked too much, I'm guessing. A car was rented to get me to the airport the next day since Jesse and Dale don't have a car. Wednesday was travel day, so, uh, I got up really early, showered, ate something, packed my last stuff, and D. and J. drove me to the airport. The powers that be gave them a pass to come to the gate with me, so that was cool, and they saw me off and checked out the duty free stores and stuff. Flight, airport, flight. Flight to Paris was a drag. Sometimes when you fly to France via Air France, you get a nice, newfangled Air France jet, and sometimes you get a crappy old plane belonging to their American partner airline Delta, and I got unlucky. No personal entertainment center on that plane, just a blurry, discolored little movie screen on the front wall of the cabin I was sitting in that showed three pre-programmed movies, period. They were 'Love Always', ugh, the most recent Harry Potter film, which I'd liked a lot the first time I saw it, and it was still very likable the second time, and finally some movie starring Hugh Grant that I didn't even try to watch. I read the latest issues of Entertainment Weekly and Vanity Fair. The only articles I remember were an obnoxious moral high ground thing about Tiger Woods and a neurotic, reactionary thing on Gore Vidal by Christopher Hitchens. The guy sitting next to me was a German man who lives in Florida who seemed nice until he said he'd lived originally in San Francisco but moved to Florida because he didn't want to raise his kids in 'that liberal atmosphere'. Anyway, the plane arrived, I trained to the Gare du Nord, took a nap, woke up, dragged myself around in a daze doing fuck knows what until about 8 pm when I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and crashed. That's all I can remember. I hope you're feeling better today, and, even if you aren't, I need to know what happened. ** JW Veldhoen, Oh, cool you got to go to that HTMLG/Rumpus party. Stephen Elliott's an awesome guy, yeah, I agree. Ditto on Justin's superior writing abilities. And you saw Alec too, nice. Hope you found that card. ** Misanthrope, It was safe, yeah. I'm safe, I think. I'm not sure if I would know if I wasn't, though. ** Justin, That's interesting about France winning the best country to live in thing. I can't say that I would disagree. But I thought like places like Norway and Sweden always won those titles. Oh, shit, amazing about that Camden market find of an original Leigh Bowery/Mr. Pearl outfit. Whoa. How the heck does something like that happen, I wonder. I'll go check Pernet's blog. ** Wow, I managed it. The p.s., I mean. Curious. Anyway, yeah, today you see the visual -- and a bit of textual -- evidence of my recent visit with the great Jesse Hudson in the not exactly great but certainly interesting Colquitt. See what you will see, will you? Maybe Jesse will be around to answer any questions you might have about the town, if you have any? Okay, I'm going to go survive today in order that I may return to you in a more fit state tomorrow. Nice to be back. See ya.
