p.s. Hey. Let's see ... later today I head to the little town of Colquitt, Georgia to visit my friend and yours, Mr. Jesse Hudson, so I'll be reporting to you from there starting tomorrow. Onwards ... ** Reynard, Wise words, sir. ** Trees, Hey. I'll go hunt down some Light Asylum. I'd never heard of them before. Thanks a lot for the tip. What will be the fate of this love letter thing then? ** ZS, Hey, Zoe! How really, really nice to see you here, and thanks a lot for the kind words on the post. I I hope you're doing great too. All my respect to you. ** Bernard Welt, Dude, very sweet about your voice being in the New Yorker. Everyone, the great Bernard Welt is quoted in this 'Talk of the Town' piece about Pee Wee Herman via the current issue of the New Yorker. Must read, I think. No, you didn't send me the Rimbaud/Sesame Street thing, and, oh, I so want you to do that, please, please? ** David Ehrenstein, Oh, yeah, the Tharp thing was kind of an in-joke. Or so Bernard says, hmmm. ** Stan_cz, Craigslist is definitely a strange, unreliable site, or it was for me the time or two I tried to use it. Have you found other sites to use as well? Are you close or closer to having something nailed down? ** Empty Frame, Little of the most buzzed about new French writing is being translated into English. Or very slowly when it is. Sucks. I like this writer Lydie Salvayre, and I have a blog post on her coming up in a week or so. Marie Redonnet. If you haven't read Agota Kristof's novel trilogy 'The Book of Lies', that's a complete must. It's one of my very favorite all time works of fiction. Mm, I'll think further and/or fish around when I get back to Paris. Beigbider is okay but not that great. ** Christopher/Mark, I've certainly heard that. ** Alan, Hey. Oh, I don't know how central 'Jerk' is, hm ... I haven't thought about it. I think the theater piece version might be pretty central, at least. The text version of 'Jerk' was written specifically for the collaboration with Nayland. He was working a lot with puppets in his art at the time, and so the puppet aspect came into play via that. It ended up that most of Nayland's pieces used in the book were pre-existing and my text was the wholly new part. Thanks a lot about 'Jerk', man. We're starting to pile up negative reviews, and none of the ones that I've seen have been interesting in their criticisms at all -- the piece is sick or boring/offensive or trivializes the murders or blah blah -- and I'm feeling quite disappointed at the conservatism and low level of discourse in the NYC reviews, so, yeah, the support is very welcome. Shit, that prediction thing is insane! That's real? It can't be. That is just about the weirdest thing about me that I've ever seen. ** JW Veldhoen, 'Man Bites Dog', yeah, years ago. I remember quite digging it. ** Blake, Hey, man! Yeah, best laid plans eaten by accruing obligatory plans and being constantly out or at the theater. You're heavily in the 'cult' dude, but I guess this place is where the plans seem to get made these days, what with me getting reclusive when I'm not here, so maybe occasional check-ins would help. I don't know. Anyway, NYC was busy but nice, yeah. Wish we'd been able to hook up. Are you in NYC mostly now? ** Michael Karo, Hey, Michael. Great stuff. Let me pass it on, and I'll dwell in the goodies later. Everyone, a flotilla of great stuff from Michael Karo today. First, his wild personal pix from the Northern California earthquake are here and here, and here's a new song that caused the mighty thinker Antonio to declare Michael 'on crack'. ** Steevee, Survive the static. Hm, someone said they were going to make a Van Der Graaf Generator Day for the blog about two years ago, didn't, and I forgot all about that. ** Adjoun, Oh, that'll be a real loss when Momus stops his blog. One of the best blogs there ever has been. Understandable, I guess. Yeah, doing this blog is a full-time, time-devouring job for sure. Right now, I'm managing to do it, write a novel, and work on the new theater piece at the same time. Everything else I do like answering emails and writing journalism is basically dead. I don't really have any idea of the blog ending or when that would happen in my head, although it obviously will at some point. I figure I'll know or feel when it's time to kill this thing off. That thought or feeling has only vaguely flirted with me so far. ** Kiddiepunk, Oh, cool, yeah, get me that 'Whale/Taylor' Day. Awesome. You de-lagging now? You getting ready to help me through mine? How's hanging out with the Wolf and the Prey treating you? ** Chris Goode, Ah, thanks, man. You twiddled my heart, which isn't easy to do. Wow, Guillermo Gomez-Pena, sure. He hasn't crossed my mind of field of vision in ages. I didn't know him well or anything, but I was doing my thing in LA when he was in LA and doing his thing during the era when his thing was most prominent and in heavy ink-gathering mode back in the early 90s. I saw a couple of his pieces. Yeah, not my particular thing so much, but it was powerful stuff. Gomez-Pena was like the total big guy/top dog in the LA performance art world back then. Well, him and the late Reza Abdoh whose work was really, really great in my opinion. Do you know of Abdoh or of his stuff? If you ever feel like doing a Raping Jonny While He's Asleep Day, I wouldn't say no. ** Ken Baumann, Excellent. Thanks, Ken! ** David, Hey. ** Chris (British), Yeah, I agree, that Latvian piece sounds most intriguing. The set-up and swiveling chairs thing on '360' made me kind of excited. I love that kind of tweaked viewing experience stuff. Once when I was living in Amsterdam, this Yugoslavian theater company called Red Pilot did this piece where the audience were blindfolded and kidnapped, and when the blindfolds were removed, we were sitting with our heads sticking up through holes in the stage, and the performers did the piece dangerously stepping around and threatening to kick our our heads. It was cool, although I can't remember a thing about the actual play. Is the '360' play itself supposed to be good? ** NB, Yeah, right, on that last dog. That's why he was last. Leave 'em screaming. Your hi to Jesse will be tendered. ** Blendin, It would have been cool. The LHotB newsstand blowout. There'll be others. And I'll have suggestions in the meantime. My brain is searching through my imaginary LA rolodex. ** KYTE, Hey, Kyte! Thanks, man. Yeah, those two angry men in particular pissed me off big time too. Trippy LA trip you had there. That car accident, Jesus. You described it really well. I was like cringing and making weird noises over here. Yeah, always best to stay extremely far away from any Scientology related attraction. That was quite a long walk you took to Meltdown Comics. Anyway, you good? I've been loving the art you've been putting on Facebook. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Hey. That late night Dallas trip was my favorite thing you did yesterday. Bendy's haircut was in the running, but his invisibility in my world dropped it a notch. I'm glad you liked my mysterious day because here's another one. So, a lot of stuff I can't describe happened. Uh, oh, my friend had to go out and do some stuff for a while, so I watched some TV while he was away. The channel was set on SyFy, and I didn't know how to change the channel, so I just watched what happened to be on SyFy, which meant a bunch of episodes of 'Masters of Horror', all of which totally lacked any mastery whatsoever and just seemed like average segments from any 'Tales of the Crypt' episode but with bigger budgets. And I saw eight billion ads for 'Caprica' and for an upcoming made-for-TV movie called 'House of Bones' starring Charisma Carpenter. Gisele texted me an alert to three new, very negative, unintelligent reviews of 'Jerk', and that was disappointing and kind of boring and a little stressful. Other than that, I ate and walked around and talked about stuff and so on with my mysterious friend, whose mysterious digs I will be departing from later today. My days will soon get more corporeal, and, in the meantime, give me yours. ** Justin, Yeah, if you need or want to, don't hesitate. I like using pop references too. I just like to try to make sure they're prismatic or something. ** Bollo, That show does look pretty fantastic, as does the work on the artist's site. He's new to me, which is exciting too. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled. Really nice find, man, thanks! ** Misanthrope, Wow, I remember that scene in 'Dazed and Confused'. Good line, yeah. I'm planning some kind of full blog report on Jesse's town, if I don't get born again or lynched or rabies or food poisoning or addicted to moonshine. ** Uli, Yeah, sounds like you got a bad therapist there. Mine did the same thing, i.e. sit there in silence forcing me to ramble my way into self-discovery mostly on my own, the silence making her seem all knowing or something, but that dad reference from yours is too telling of dumb thinking. It was probably an exception, I think, I hope. I still haven't seen 'The White Ribbon'. I decided seeing it without English subtitles wouldn't be a great idea. I have to wait for DVD, I guess. ** T H O M, 24th, got it, excellent! Thanks! ** Put The Lotion In The Basket, Thanks, pal. Wow, that was a Freudian slip supreme little moment right there. I mean the thing with your teacher, not my 'Thanks, pal', although, hm ... ** Oscar B, End of Feb. or early March sounds okay to me. Don't you think? What did you and the Londoners do? I hear it has warmed up there, yeah? ** Wolf, Yeah, Paris is so full right now. I'm sad, but happy for my favorite quartet. I want to hear as much scoop as possible. ** Kier, I did my best to organize an interesting, building curve thing with the videos. It's hard to do, I think, but, yeah, you know me and how hands on I am when it comes to structure. ** Frank Jaffe, Hey, Frank! So you're probably on your way to the majestic NYC right now. Safe trip. I hope you like 'Jerk', obviously. Gimme your review. I can take it. I'm going to see 'A Single Man' when it hits Paris, whenever that is. I have to say, it's been a while since a movie so completely divided the opinions of my trusted friends. It seems to inspire either deep love or the words awful, crap, etc., and nothing in between. Anyway, have a total blast up there, my friend. ** Right, I'm off. I'm kind of zonked out, spacey, low energy this morning. Sorry for any fall out that ensued in the p.s. It's your monthly escorts day today, and, so, yeah. See you from the southern wilds of the great state of Georgia tomorrow.
