'Zachary German’s nimble, catwalking, archeological, surface dwelling, emotionally unpaved prose is a thing of total wonder and my favorite drug, language-based or otherwise. Eat When You Feel Sad is so bright and pleasurable and full of excellence, it’s positively serene.' -- DC

Ed Lister: ... Zachary German, a real self-righteous little hipster fuck who writes trash like this... i don't like the avocado ciltrano soup / i got it one time and thought ' i should / have asked for a free sample of this' / i ate it all anyway / now i'm okay ...and gets rave reviews for his 'poetry' by hipster peers in shitty online magazines who no one except the contributors actually reads however I don't think anyone could be that pathetic.
Crazy Joe: Seeing that fuck (Zachary German's) hair almost makes me want to shave mine. Our hair is very similar, brown, wavy-curly, and thick, and I don't like this revelation one bit. I shall now post this message and leave this thread, never to return.
Poppy: Wow. I defended Tao (Lin) in the original thread, but he really needs to distance himself from this Zachary (German) douche. If you use the Internet for most of your marketing, you've got to realize the Internet can give you bad PR, too. Having a friend/ally who is an unapologetic Kramer of the Internet isn't helping you sell books.
Collie: I know Zachary German too, he isn't homophobic, he is just a creepy person. He is sycophantic and weaselly and desperate to be liked. He imitates Tao Lin and "acts out" to get Tao Lin's approval and attention. Tao Lin loves attention and "followers" so he encourages German. German is four or five years younger.
Anonymous: I do hate Tao (Lin's) lesser writer friends like Brandon Scott Gorrell and Zachary German, but they're just little imitations of Tao and their blogs suck and no one reads them, and no one cares, so what's the point of hating them?
Erik Shonkwiler: If I've got the story straight, Zachary German is or was a 19 year old when he wrote the linked stuff. It's being published by FSG--if you're unfamiliar, they're big. And he has a blog titled "Every Time a Police Officer Gets Shot I Throw a Party." Which makes me want to beat the piss out of him. Eat, which is how I'll abbreviate it, reads like Tao Lin and Noah Cicero, both of whom I've mentioned before. I don't know if this is the new shit, I don't know if one person started it and the others followed suit or if they pulled some morphic field crap and it hit them all at once. But I'm tired of it already.
The book

Eat When You Feel Sad
Zachary German
Melville House
All the sad young pop-culture-saturated hyperliterary men mope their way under our skin, one deadpan, declarative sentence at a time.
'Eat When You Feel Sad is a novel about Robert. Eat When You Feel Sad is a novel about a generation. Robert was born in the 1980s. He was born in the United States of America. In Eat When You Feel Sad, Robert feeds his cat, watches television and drinks beer. In Eat When You Feel Sad, Robert gets mustard on his clothes, rides a bicycle and talks on Gmail chat. Eat When You Feel Sad takes place in cars, houses, and apartments. Eat When You Feel Sad takes place in a school, a community center, and several Chinese restaurants. Eat When You Feel Sad is a selection of scenes from a life.
'Eat When You Feel Sad will be found on a short shelf of short literary novels that includes Bret Easton Ellis's Less than Zero and Tao Lin's Eeeee Eee Eeee--where young people seek their own reflection, and face reality with humor and hope.' -- Melville House
